Authentic Peranakan Food at Melaka Nyonya Village

It’s been a very long day for all of us Sahabat Media and as the night falls, all of our tummies growled out loud to be fed. Melaka is not only well known for historical and heritage trail, but is famous for cultural diversity and food too.

 photo IMG_20140822_201225_zpsozuiezyk.jpg

There are plenty of places where you can sample delicious food and watch cultural performances in Melaka, but there are only a handful of places where you can experience both at the same time, and the Melaka Nyonya Village is one of those places where you not only can sample fabulous food, but watch cultural performance at the same time as well.

 photo IMG_20140822_201305_zpsjh9fixv6.jpg

The place is really homey, welcoming and spacious
 photo IMG_20140822_201426_zpsjbdqpeju.jpg

You can opt to dine al fresco

 photo IMG_20140822_201908_zps3clyhahk.jpg

Or dine indoor

 photo IMG_20140822_201632_zpsksonusgq.jpg

The interior of this place is like a mini museum where they exhibit various antiquities.

 photo IMG_20140822_201712_zps8bkem2y6.jpg

Unique deco where paper umbrellas were seen ‘levitating’ around.

 photo IMG_20140822_202206_zps5xaz7qn4.jpg

Authentic Peranakan dishes were served that night for our gastronomic pleasure.

 photo IMG_20140822_202227_zps8jqw7yly.jpg

Tapioca chips/kerepek ubi keledek were served as an appetizer. It was sweet, slightly salt-ish and crunchy. No excessive oil whatsoever and it was quite addictive. I found myself keep reaching for more.

 photo IMG_20140822_202218_zpsdvmov7ae.jpg

Cincaluk Omelet/Telur Dadar Cincaluk is a kind of omelet where the eggs mixture was mixed with fermented shrimps before being pan fried. The omelet was fluffy, but the cincaluk taste was too mild to my liking. I would prefer it if there was more cincaluk in it. But this is a good dish to go with plain rice nevertheless.

 photo IMG_20140822_203208_zpsvsprmoxn.jpg

Salted veggie soup with chicken was perfectly done. There was a balance of sourishness from the salted veggie and sweetness from the plump, juicy tomatoes and the chicken meat absorbs the natural flavours very well. This appetizing dish guarantees to whet your appetite and a wonderful meal to have during those cold nights.

 photo IMG_20140822_203055_zpsqqkgekkr.jpg

Stir fried mixed veggies with foochuk was all right too. I have no complaints about it.My boy loves it very much and had a few helpings of these.

 photo IMG_20140822_203422_zpstb6iprkw.jpg

Sambal Petai with fried anchovies was to die for. Some people may require an acquired taste to be enjoy this dish, and I happen to have an acquired taste for it. Love the stinky beans and the spiciness of the sambal and fried anchovies even more.

 photo IMG_20140822_202223_zpszxsbudod.jpg

Pajeri Nanas is a type of curry that is usually cooked with sliced pineapple as the main ingredient. The pajeri nanas was wonderful. This version of pajeri nanas was cooked with curry spices, coconut milk and juicy, fresh shrimps. It was fabulous. The curry was naturally tangy and refreshing while the shrimp was fleshy and flavourful.

 photo IMG_20140822_204325_zpshz171io5.jpg

Ikan Goreng Kerutuk. This dish is supposed to be saucy with kerutuk sauce drizzled onto it, but the rest at the table prefers to take it the way it is, so I can’t comment much on it apart from the freshness and the sweetness of the deep fried fish. Quite a waste actually. I wondered to this very day how the fish would have tasted like if we poured the kerutuk sauce onto it. I bet it would have been marvellous.

 photo IMG_20140822_203454_zpskazihvyf.jpg

Ayam Pongteh is a must try Peranakan dish if you are to dine in Nyonya Village. Ayam Pongteh is one of the Baba Nyonya’s culinary pride and joy. Basically, this dish is just made from chicken pieces, potatoes and thickened dark soya sauce with some spices. This version in Nyonya Village, however have an additional ingredient which is the shittake mushrooms. This homey dish won my heart that night. Perfectly done and was bursting with flavours.

 photo IMG_20140822_203615_zps2qldukue.jpg

Otak-Otak is a kind of spicy mackerel pattie mixed with secret spices and grilled in banana leaf. I’m not a fan of fish, but since this is boneless, I found myself scooping up these into my plate more than twice. It was uniquely flavoured and has no fishy smell whatsoever.

 photo IMG_20140822_202236_zpsw2zr6n8g.jpg

Fragrant Thai Rice was served to go with all the other dishes, of course. My only grouse is that I couldn’t have enough of the rice. 😉

 photo IMG_20140822_203159_zpswnivep1f.jpg

Sambal belacan and cincaluk was naturally served as dippings as well, but the food was tasty enough that I did not have the needs for additional sambal belacan or cincaluk to go with my rice.

 photo IMG_20140822_202232_zpsysxwxpmt.jpg

Assorted Nyonya Kuih was served as dessert, and they tasted like authentically homemade. 🙂

 photo IMG_20140822_205725_zpsn2dajafx.jpg

At the end of the meal, we were served Cendol, a traditional dessert made from shaved ice topped with green flour jellies, occasional red beans, palm sugar syrup and coconut milk. This sweet shaved ice was irresistibly refreshing, and I found myself wishing for more. Thumbs up for this traditional dessert and highly recommended for those who have sweet tooth.

Dining here in Melaka Nyonya Village is an absolutely amazing experience. Not only the food was authentic and superb and would satiate even the fussiest eater, but diners were served with dazzling cultural performance as well.

 photo PhotoGrid_1409749816982_zpsefm307js.jpg

Here’s a glimpse of the cultural performance performed that night, ranging from the Peranakan dance Dondang Sayang, fan dance, fashion show, mock wedding and many more. Will blog about it more once I had the opportunity to sort out the videos and pictures. 😉 Do keep a lookout for it in my blog soon.

From what I understand, Melaka Nyonya Village does not have JAKIM halal cert, but it is PORK FREE and it was promised that their dishes does not contain MSG.

Functional & Creative Bags For My Traveling Needs

This is the year 2014. The Visit Malaysia year. And in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign, I made it a point to travel to at least one location that I haven’t been to before every month. It is my 2014 resolution, and so far, my personal Cuti Cuti 1Malaysia mission is somewhat accomplished and I just need to keep the momentum going. I can proudly say that I have visited more than 10 new tourist attraction/ locations/destinations within Malaysia with both of my boys Garfield and Little A. Praise God for all the blessings that He poured on us. 🙂

Traveling has been quite an eye opening experience for me. It gave me delightful insights and changed my perspective on plenty of things in life. Traveling practically put me outside of the box, and I’m eternally grateful for every single opportunity to travel that comes my way. I used to feel like a frog in a well…someone who is living in her own world, but now…I don’t feel that way anymore.

Yes. I’ve learned a lot and experience a lot while traveling. There is no complaints on that, but my pitiful traveling backpack probably does not share the same sentiment. After traveling for almost every month, my faithful pink backpack and sneakers are now worn out from my abuse.

Now, I’m not the sort of person who buys a lot of shoes and bags just because I feel like it. I only buy em if I need em, so when my precious pink backpack started to tell me that it ‘wants to retire from traveling’ I got kinda aghast.

I knew I will need to get a new one immediately, but I couldn’t really find something that suits my needs.

 photo IMG_20140830_102903_zpsssqbttmf.jpg

But thank God for Terminus.

 photo IMG_20140830_103031_zpsbbdlvj4y.jpg

They are having all sort of creative and functional bags on sale. Will you just look at that? I was practically drooling.

 photo IMG_20140830_102439_zps9gbarjnn.jpg

More bags on sale in the Terminus store. Each and every one of these bags are unique and of high quality. I was eyeing on some of their traveling bags, especially their New Invisible Urban Roller that is specially designed for traveling and comes with retractable rollers, but I was informed that it was not available for my taking, so after much consideration, I settled for this bag instead:

 photo PhotoGrid_1409399089954_zpske1obmqk.jpg

Terminus Urban Dad Backpack a bag that is designed for young parents. To put it on a layman term, this bag is a diaper and formula milk bottle bag for parents to use to carry around their baby’s needs, but hey, although I don’t have a tiny tot and my son is already in primary school, who says I can’t use this bag for traveling purpose? I can always improvise. 😉 Let’s take a look at my new red babe.

 photo IMG_20140830_110122_zpsmgyvmhat.jpg

The Terminus Urban Dad Backpack is vibrant, tough and sturdy and comes with 1 year warranty. That is definitely a plus point for me as I travel a lot and I use backpacks like a Godzilla on rampage. Price tag that is attached to it: RM299.

 photo IMG_20140830_110328_zpsv4rcvymv.jpg

The bag comes with a tough and sturdy grab handle.

 photo IMG_20140830_110211_zpsek85wqgt.jpg

And there is a zippered compartment to hold your wallet, mobile phone, car keys, ipad/tablet & some other gadgets personal belongings.

 photo IMG_20140830_110353_zps0twkpjx0.jpg

Convenient storage pockets and pad for changing diapers. I don’t need a foldable pad for changing diapers on the go, but this item would definitely be useful if I were to go on an impromptu picnic or even camping. I just can take this out, spread it onto the ground and sit on it. 😉

 photo IMG_20140830_110301_zpsx7kfzkcy.jpg

Detachable storage divider for thermo food jar, milk powder dispenser & etc. This would go well with my camera equipments, but for overnight travels, I’d probably take out the detachable storage divider and put my clothing in instead. 🙂

 photo IMG_20140830_110154_zpsnoovjdfw.jpg

There is a velcro front flap for easy access to wet tissue. Awesome for both children and adults on the go. We tend to make a mess out of ourselves and get all smelly and sweaty while traveling. Having an easy access to wet tissues or wet wipes is definitely a convenience.

 photo IMG_20140830_110144_zpswm7z4fev.jpg

Last but not least, the feature that I like in this bag is the two side thermos pockets where you can store your cold or hot drink.

Overall, I’m happy with my choice of backpack from Terminus, and I seriously recommend all of you to take a look at their website if you wanna buy a bag for whatever purpose. They are offering creative and functional bags at a very competitive price. And the best part? You can do your shopping online! So what are you waiting for? Hop over and check it out!

Buffet Lunch at Bayou Lagoon Park Resort Day 1

After checking-in to our respective rooms, us Sahabat Media were ushered to lunch. Initially I thought we will be having our lunch at Bayou Lagoon Park Resort’s in-house restaurant&cafe, but I was wrong. We were all ushered to the hall specially reserved for us located opposite of the pool and arcade for lunch instead. I was informed that the food catered is what usually you will get if you booked the hall for catering services or seminar. Now, I’ve reviewed plenty of hotels and restaurants and if I were to be completely honest, I’d say that not all hotel food tastes good, but I’m petty impressed with the taste and the varieties of buffet selection here at Bayou Lagoon Park Resort.

 photo IMG_20140822_123454_zpslfump0ah.jpg

Hall where we had our lunch during the first day, and some meals during the rest of our stay here.

 photo IMG_20140822_123506_zps6lj4ua5e.jpg

There was an a la minute counter outside where hot, spicy and creamy curry noodles was on the menu.

 photo IMG_20140822_123518_zpss0yckruq.jpg

Condiments for mee curry. You may pick anything you like and top it into your bowl of noodles.

 photo IMG_20140822_130054_zpsqmydbmfl.jpg

Mee curry. Tastes all right. It hits all the right notes with the spices and the creamy coconut milk, but personally I would prefer it much more if there was accompanying cockles. Mee curry simply feels incomplete without them.

 photo IMG_20140822_123731_zpszrug8jg1.jpg

Salad counter was available for those who can’t live without their greens.

 photo IMG_20140822_123738_zpsgo8slpov.jpg

Sliced cooling cucumber

 photo IMG_20140822_123742_zps4f6dd20x.jpg

Juicy tomatoes will definitely make a great addition if you are to assemble a salad.
 photo IMG_20140822_123755_zpsqcsnkhtk.jpg

Colourful capsicum strips.

 photo IMG_20140822_123550_zpsrzsjwfyv.jpg

Generous buffet spread awaits us

 photo IMG_20140822_123601_zpsuqjljnza.jpg

Prawn salad‘s presentation beckons me. Taste wise? The little prawns was fresh, sweet and juicy while the Thousand Island dressing complements the dish perfectly.

 photo IMG_20140822_123610_zpsveb7z6x8.jpg

Stuffed tofu. I gave this a miss but hubby says it’s all right. Nothing to complain and nothing to shout about either. Makes quite a filling appetizer so sample sparingly if you are in a buffet.

 photo IMG_20140822_123625_zpsuuagdbdk.jpg

Potato salad was all right too. Flavourful and the potatoes are not undercooked or too mushy either.

 photo IMG_20140822_123955_zpsrkoujjrz.jpg

Kerabu tauge. Avoided this like a plague cuz I’m allergic to it.

 photo IMG_20140822_124007_zpslnq5ztu7.jpg

Sambal ikan billis was great. The fried anchovies was flavourful, sweet, crunchy and bursting with flavours. Pair this with steamed white rice you’re good to go.

 photo IMG_20140822_124339_zpssf7yvdlj.jpg

Chicken curry was flavourful enough and not overly spicy either.

 photo IMG_20140822_124342_zps3e6tdrer.jpg

Fish curry. I did not sample this. Not really a big fan of fish and I tend to avoid eating fishes.

 photo IMG_20140822_124347_zpsk5gxgnkh.jpg

Kambing Dendeng was a sensational dish and I broke my own rules of not having any dish twice at a buffet. I actually had three scoops of these to go with my white rice that day. That’s how good it was. It tastes authentic with all the myriad of spices and the meat was juicy and tender. No weird lamb smell whatsoever. A must try if they serve this in a buffet. Goes well with both rice and bread.

 photo IMG_20140822_124412_zpszpixfs6b.jpg

Stewed Lamb was sensational too. Mild in flavour and not overly overwhelming to the taste. The lamb meat was tender and fatty. I like this dish too and yes…this dish could have tempted me for seconds, but I preferred the local Kambing Dendeng more than the western way of cooking.

 photo IMG_20140822_124353_zpswkv7mqyl.jpg

Udang Goreng Berempah was great. The prawns used was juicy, fresh and succulent and was bursting with flavours.

 photo IMG_20140822_124424_zpsfkj1ldac.jpg

Garlic Roasted Potatoes was mediocre. I thought it could use more flavour and was rather tasteless. I would prefer this more if it was much saltier with a hint of butter in it. Such a shame, cuz I am a huge fan of anything potatoes and this dish failed to appeal me.

 photo IMG_20140822_124359_zpsebtfd78q.jpg

Fu Yong Eggs are fluffy, but it could use abit more salt in it.

 photo IMG_20140822_124430_zpsdkk6cioj.jpg

Stir Fried Butter Veggies. Gave this a miss so no comments on how it tastes.

 photo IMG_20140822_123837_zpsgmnev0it.jpg

Popiah/Spring rolls was crunchy and adeptly fried.

 photo IMG_20140822_123651_zpst3kxiphm.jpg

Butter Cake was a tad dry to my liking but my son loves this.

 photo IMG_20140822_123639_zpsxy2mou1j.jpg

Moist Chocolate Cake was lovely and perfectly baked. Not cloyingly sweet.

 photo IMG_20140822_123659_zpsgcfelcbz.jpg

Cream Cake. Did not try this one but thumbs up for the presentation.

 photo IMG_20140822_123848_zpsv2oljxry.jpg

Sponge Cake was okay. Nothing to praise and nothing to shout about either.

Overall the variety of food provided during the lunch buffet was fantastic and the food was fabulous. Not exactly spectacular and lavish buffet spread but it was pretty enjoyable and decent to me. There was a decent selection on appetizers, mains and dessert.

Bayou Lagoon Park Resort Melaka

If you happen to be my friend on Facebook and have been observing my status update you would probably realize that August is quite an emotional roller coaster ride for me, for various reasons. One being…a traumatizing incident that have been haunting me since last year. I couldn’t control my thoughts, especially when I’m asleep, resulting to nightmares, but I’m determined as ever to move on, hence, when my husband, my son and I was invited by MMode and Santai Travel on the behalf of Tourism Malaysia to join Cuti Cuti Malaysia Negeri Melaka program with Sahabat Media in conjunction of Visit Malaysia 2014 as travel blogger, I was absolutely ecstatic!

I took a look at the tentative, and noticed that we will be making visits at a lot of interesting places in Melaka. I was absolutely thrilled! Here is my chance to get out of my cave and reconnects with the beautiful world again.

It was 22nd August 2014, and we departed to our destination, the historical state of from Matic Jalan Ampang at about 9am and arrives in Melaka 2 hours later.

Our first stop? Our accommodation, of course. Our 3D2N accommodation was sponsored by Bayou Lagoon Park Resort, located in Bukit Katil, Melaka.

 photo IMG_20140822_112052_zpsefkgqzp5.jpg

Bayou Lagoon Park Resort reception counter. Staff in this resort was attentive and friendly. We were welcomed and attended to immediately upon arrival and were checked in to our respective rooms immediately. We were given a spacious and very comfortable studio room.

 photo IMG_20140822_113436_zpsn9djdist.jpg

There was two single beds. 🙂 other married couples might not be happy with such arrangement…but to me it’s perfect. 😉 why? Well, my hubby and I never did graduated to queen or king sized bed since we got married. Yups. We are still sleeping intimately together in a single size bed. Never been an issue to me as we are quite small sized and I’m pretty much a hugger while sleeping. Personally speaking,I hate big beds. Our son sleep on his own, of course. And he is doubtlessly happy with that arrangement too. 🙂

 photo IMG_20140822_113816_zpsylwfiwfv.jpg

The living room was equipped with loveseat and tv. It is very cozy, but we did not use this much. There is so much things to see in Melaka. Slacking in front of the idiot box will definitely defeat the purpose.

 photo IMG_20140822_114741_zpsvwnrn045.jpg

Dining table for two

 photo IMG_20140822_113357_zpsu6ywdzbb.jpg

Pantry is available in case you’d like to make some tea or coffee or store some beverages.

 photo IMG_20140822_113444_zpsvl5fece8.jpg

Wardrobe is spacious enough for travelers to keep their clothing for a week.

 photo IMG_20140822_113526_zpssj9vnogb.jpg

Moving on to the bathroom, vanity mirror is available, of course.
 photo IMG_20140822_113536_zps4jhtc05c.jpg

Basic toiletries are provided, but I highly recommend you to bring your own if you are to stay in Bayou Lagoon Park Resort.

 photo IMG_20140822_113546_zpsyborwhje.jpg

The toilet is squeaky clean.

 photo IMG_20140822_113606_zpsb0sp6bpu.jpg

But what got me high and all excited was the jacuzzi made for lovers. Yups. You are reading that right. We were given a studio room with jacuzzi and I was doubtlessly on cloud nine! Husband and I love taking baths together, and this has pleased us immensely. :p

 photo IMG_20140824_073056_zps0laytott.jpg

If you are expecting some naughty and sexy pictures, I apologize for disappointing you, but that night, when the boy fell asleep put of exhaustion we did spend some intimate time in the jacuzzi. Yeaaaa…yours truly and her sweetheart are underneath all these bubbles, but let’s not go beyond 18SX, shall we? 😉

Personally, I think Bayou Lagoon Park Resort is a perfect choice of accommodation for not only travelers and families but honeymooners and lovers as well. Great for companies who wants to host seminar and team building too.

Although the location of this resort is a tad out of Melaka town and would require transportation to move about to tourist attractions in Melaka, I think this place has it’s own charms. They have quite a lot to offer in terms of seclusion and entertainment. Food is readily available in their in-resort restaurant and a mini mart. But if you are lazy to get out, no worries. Room service is easily available.

 photo PhotoGrid_1409428298009_zpslazefnk9.jpg

This resort is apartment style and has water park and mini amusement park in it. While you are away from the bustling city, you won’t exactly complain boredom while you are here. You may amuse yourselves with the water park or if that is not you thing, you may pay a visit to the gym or arcade for some fun. Massaging parlour and spa is also available, but I would recommend advance booking on that. I will be blogging in detail on what the outdoor water park in Bayou Lagoon Park Resort have to offer soon, but in the meantime, check out their website HERE for more information on current room rates and promotions.

How to Travel Cheap: Make Use of Travel Fair

As I started traveling and holidaying around Malaysia in the spirit of Visit Malaysia 2014, family and friends alike started to question me on how much time and money I spent on all of these travels. I wouldn’t call it ‘spending’. That is a rather harsh and disrespectful term to describe all my travels. I would prefer to term it as a priceless investment instead, as I have more to gain than to lose when I explore my own country. I experience culture, food, interesting places and many more in a way that I never experience before and I can assure you that traveling helps you to not only connect with the world around you in a unique way, but it is an endless journey to self discovery too.

Following a comment from someone I know on how I managed traveling with my family on a shoestring, I’d say advance planning and joining invited trips from various groups and parties helps the pocket a lot. Although I am not attached to any travel agencies and whatnot and open to media and FAM trip invites, I am currently traveling with Sahabat Media and Santai Travel regularly as they are not only fun and educational but family friendly too.

Apart from advance planning and grouping up with fellow travelers on the social media, I’d highly recommend all those who would like to travel with a budget take advantage of travel fairs like MATTA Fair if you are to fund your own holidays and travels.

Holiday and travel packages offered during MATTA fair is not only affordable, but almost fuss free as well. Most travel agencies will provide travel tentatives like book your air tickets, accommodations, arrange meals and many more for you and all you need to do is just pay up and enjoy your holiday.

Take this as an example. During my recent trip to Melaka with Santai Travel and fellow media practitioners in Sahabat Media, we were given a chance to drop by MITC, Melaka where MATTA fair was held. Melaka MITS Matta Fair was aimed to encourage Malaysians and visitors to plan their travels without unnecessarily harming your pocket, and I’d have to admit that I was awfully tempted to sign up for some of these travel packages.

Check out the participating agencies present that day:

There was also an airline booth that is offering reasonable air fares to selected destinations.

So there you go, folks…some of my traveling tips. If you want to travel but not quite good at planning for it, do check out travel fairs like MATTA the next time you see it’s held. I promise that you would be spoiled for choices…and the best part, you won’t burn excessive hole in your pocket.

My trip to Melaka was made possible by Tourism Malaysia Melaka and Santai Travel.

Flower Pot Ice Cream Cake

I have mood swings more often than I care to admit. But my tempers are short…and can easily be remedied by feeding me junk food or sweet stuff like ice-cream. When it comes to bad mood, my husband knows me best. He knows it too well that there is at least once or twice a month where he need to feed me ice-cream to keep me sweet, and yesterday he did just that, when I was feeling quite sore and emotionally down.

 photo IMG_20140817_201549_zps0qppyq2b.jpg

We spotted flower pot ice cream cake while we were in a shopping mall yesterday, and decided to try it out.

 photo IMG_20140817_201710_zps1z3pftsd.jpg

Ice-cream was placed in a small flower pot and topped with Oreo cookie crumbs before a plastic flower is planted on the soil-like ice-cream.

 photo IMG_20140817_201740_zpssnblfdyg.jpg

Each potted ice-cream costs rm5…quite costly for a measly bit of ice- cream, but I guess it is worth every penny as it kept me sweet and all smiling for the rest of the day. 🙂

Colourful Traditional Cakes

I’m posting this up for the benefit of my friend. She’s a novelist friend who is from another part of the world. She asked me what Malaysians typically have for breakfast.

I told her we mostly have nasi lemak and roti canai for breakfasts (well, at least that’s what I usually have for breakfasts). And at times, we also indulge ourselves with traditional cakes. Some can be sweet while some others are savoury. Unfortunately for my friend, I’m the sort of person who knows how to eat more than anything.

Here are treats you won’t find at pastry schools, nor delicacies created at California Culinary schools.

Can any of you tell me the real the names of some of these traditional cakes?

image

Cucur badak, ondeh ondeh kacang and… uh…traditional sugar-coated donut…

image

Not sure what these are called, but they’re some sort of sweet apom.

image

Pulut udang… glutinous rice with prawn sambal wrapped in banana leaves.

image

Lepat pisang.

image

I don’t know what these are called, but I definitely know how to make these. I used to make these when I was younger. It’s made from a mixture of flour, water, salt and tumeric powder along with some meat and sliced chillies.

image

Kuih talam.

image

Apom. These are usually eaten with shaved coconuts.

image

Pancakes? Uh… I have no idea what these are called.

Cooling kuih sagu topped with shaved coconuts.

Chocolate kuih lapis.

Not sure what this one is called.

A fun product launching and family day with Coway

Guess where I was last Saturday when the rest were ranting and prattling about the illegal rally? Well, make a guess… recognize the blue duck?

No… I was not at the rally. *roll eyes* And instead of staying home as advised  on 9th July to avoid bloodbath and chaos*was on recalcitrant mode*, I went to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park for a day of fun instead.

You see… since I decided to try  Coway Spa Water Softener for 14 days and reviewed it in my previous blog post, I was invited by Coway for their product launching in Sunway Lagoon Theme Park. :D  I was really happy, cuz with the invitation invitation came with a free all parks access in Sunway Lagoon Theme Park. LOL. That means, after attending the product launch, I get to have fun in Sunway Lagoon Theme Park with my family.

The event started at 11.30am with speech by Mr. Hoe Kian Choon, Coway Senior Sales GM in Malaysia.

Followed the launch of the Coway Spa Water Softener

And then there’s Q&A Session with the celebrities… Ning Baizura, DJ Sam… and *cough* my former senior in  TARC College, May June. She was in my husband’s class. She took Mass Communication in Graphic Design, and I believe she attended Media Law lecture with me years back. Tsk. What a small world. I can’t believe I met her there again after all these years. Unfortunately for me, I did not get to talk to her, couldn’t find her after the Q&A session. LOL… probably was swarmed by her adoring fans. *grinz*

I only get to talk to the lovely Ning Baizura and Vanidah Imran and her husband. It was not a first for me as I’ve met the three of them a couple of times a few years ago. Ning at various charity events while Vanidah Imran and her husband during my notorious scriptwriting and journalism years. Really brings me back to the times when I was practicing journalism. LOL! Neway, those days are over… I think. Can’t keep up with the glamorous and hectic world. I saw alot of bloggers like iamthewitch and Saucer, Nicolekiss…and many more familiar faces who used to be my blog reader. But I did not go up and say hello, as they do not know me. *blush* Geez…I’m nobody…would be a shame if I go up and say hello and they have no idea who I am, wouldn’t it? I wouldn’t want the “Cleffairy? Who? You’re sure you’re invited” kinda conversation to resurface over and over again now, wouldn I? Plus, not all bloggers are my friends. Some of them disagree with my opinions and what I wrote and loathe me to death, even if what I wrote is the truth.

Anyway, I’m straying… as I was saying, I was there for the product launching and Coway family day not chit-chatting with old friends and whatnot.

After the launching and the Q&A session with Coway ambassadors ( Ning, May June and DJ Sam) we’re given an exclusive preview of the product, which I had the pleasure to test out before the launching ceremony.

Now, I did not know much about the product apart from the product’s ability to make my skin more moisturized and smooth, but during the launching, I learned quite a few things about our bodies as well as the product.

First, I learn that our skin absorbed water 3 times more during shower than during drinking water. And second, I learn that all these while, I’ve been using hard water to shower. Gosh! Imagine our skin absorbing unclean water that’s harmful to our skin and the rest of our anatomy.

During the launch, I learned that Coway water softener unit is scientifically proven to increase as much as 69% of skin moisture and reduce dead skin cells and decrease friction by 20% in just two weeks. Yeah… I can really vouch for that. Why did I say that? Well, one week ago, I got henna(mahendi) on my hand. After I showered with the Coway Spa Water Softener just once… I discovered that the dead cells with henna on my hands were falling off.  🙁

*FAINT* I was so shocked! There goes my henna. No more sexy, Bollywood hands… but thinking back, it was a good thing as my skin became much softer after all the dead skin cells fell off and I feel much more comfortable after bathing. Another thing that I noticed after using the water softener is that soap and shampoo works better with soft water that comes out from the water softener.

Darn it… I am sooo tempted to keep the product. *SOBS* (But my husband wants me to return it, cuz we have no budget for it. He will only allow me to keep it if Coway sponsor me that unit. TSK TSK TSK!) Not only my skin is much smoother, but I noticed that my dandruffs are not as much as before too. The product is really good, you can have my words on it. There’s so much difference before using it and after using it. My skin was not easily irritated as before too.

This product was actually first introduced in South Korea in 2000. (Aha! So that’s why Korean ladies have such smooth skin and so pretty! This must be their secret!). The water softener is also equipped with a composite filter to remove harmful substance like chlorine and other floating substance. It’s ion exchange function on the other hand, reduced the hardness of water, making it softer for the body to absorb.

During the launch, I also learn that bathing with hard water not only causes rashes and irritation to the skin, but it also encourages premature aging and hair loss as hard water destroys the vitamins  in our skin. So yeah… if you’re balding prematurely and suffering hair loss, this is definitely one of your remedy. LOL!

Anyway, Coway has generously installed 48 preview units of their spa water softener throughout Sunway Lagoon Theme Park for the public to try out. So if you happen to be in Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and had a swim or two, you might wanna wash off all those nasty chlorine from your body by using their water softener.

After the launching, the guests, bloggers, reviewers and members of the media were ushered for lunch and were invited to participate in their family day with lotsa fun activities.

There was various products on display and various activities like airbrush and glitter tattoo booth where you can get yourself tattooed for free, and then there’s manicure and reflexology massage where you can pamper yourself as well.

Kids are not forgotten either. There was a sand art section as well. Just too bad there’s soooo much overgrown, not cute big kids cluttering that section til it’s kinda hard for kids to have a chance at sand art. The kids practically have to wait for the not cute overgrown kids to be done with their sand art before having their turn. Tsk! What’s the matter with all these overgrown kids? Grow up! Grr~ Sorry, no picture on the sand art section. Was busy being flabbergasted by some young adults who was hogging the place that I’ve forgotten to snap a picture. 🙁

I had 2 airbrush tattoo done, by the way…my husband had one too. Can you guess where I had myself tattooed?

Anyway, I really had a fun and relaxing day, thanks to Coway. I better pen off as this is getting too long. But before I go, if you’re interested in trying out their water softener, just remember that they are giving the public an opportunity to try out the Spa Water Softener (1,000 units) for FREE in the comfort of their homes with Coway’s exclusive 14 day trial period.  Check it out at their website here: www.coway.com.my. Alternatively, you can call their tol free number: 1800-888-111 for further information and assistance.
