Faithful

When I first laid my eyes on the cover of this book, it immediately transported me to when I was a mere 17 years old teenager. I was sent back to the time when I was in college, where my boyfriend then, (now husband) appeared at the window of my hostel room, giving me a champagne rose through my window in the middle of the night.

I could still remember that night clearly. The night when he gave me the champagne rose. It was the beginning or our relationship.

I knew that I must have this book when I saw it on Booksneeze, no matter what it takes because it reminds me of my husband and I when we were young, and were deeply in love.

Anyway, enough about my love story. The cover of this book is really romantic and looks sweet, and that alone makes me wanna get my hands on it. I know we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, as what looks nice on the surface, doesn’t neccessarily be nice on the inside.

The saying doesn’t apply here though, because I found this book is really inspiring and… mesmerizing. It’s nice on the outside, and also on the inside. Wholesome goodness.

Faithful by Kim Cash Tate is about 3 friends who are struggling in their life, and in finding love. Faithful tells the life of Cydney, Dana and Phyllis.

Cydney is forty years old, still single with a ticking biological clock. She’s more than certain that she will find the right man to marry, but she couldn’t seems to find the right man. One day, she attended her sister’s wedding as maid of honour, and she found that her life is suddenly complicated by the best man’s whom in her opinion, is a complete opposite of what she wants in a husband.

Cydney’s best friend Dana on the other hand is married, but one day, she discovered that her husband was having an affair, and was completely crushed at the revelation. Dana found herself being thrown into a whirlwind of emotion that she’s not sure she could withstand.

Phyllis on the other hand is a devout Christian who is married to a faithless man, and felt that something is incomplete with her marriage. She couldn’t relate to her husband, and felt that she’s spiritually void. She longs for completion, and enters a perfect Christian man in her life.

Reading Faithful is like being thrown into the world of Cydney, Dana and Phyllis. Their world seems to crumble beneath their feet, and they’re barely hanging on. The three women are broken, shattered and hurt, and all they want is to stop the pain and heal once again.

Faithful is about having faith, and accepting that sometimes, life doesn’t go as you planned. You must learn to accept things as they are, and the world as it is, instead of how you want it to be. And this book also teaches you that all is never lost when you open your heart to God’s words… and also… honour your vows.

A good read? Well… the book is dramatic and emotional. Intense, no doubt, and you can’t help but feel for the three women portrayed in the story. A cross between a chic-lit and romantic Christian fiction.

Recommended to those who feels that their world is going against them, and in need of assurance that everything will be all right, and all you need is just a little fath.

I rate this book 4 stars out of 5. Thumbs up.

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers for an advance reading as part of their Booksneeze bloggers program . I was not required to write a positive review and therefore, the book review is 100% my own opinion.

Literature& Independent Schools

What books did you read when you’re growing up? When I was a little girl. I did not exactly have the privileges of being showered by loads of books and toys at my every whim and fancy like kids these days does. I was born when my father was still a university student, and raising me was quite a task to my parents. We’re always on budget, and I grew up watching my father juggling his time being a student, a husband, and a father.

I grew up in a place called Coventry. A small town in England and was not easy for us as there’s always strain on money. But we were happy. I was happy, though I was not showered with material possession at my every whim and fancy. I did not feel I lacked anything, though. I was quite a docile child. I did not throw tantrum often, pretty easy to reason with and I don’t demand for things that I want, so, if my parents says I can’t have something because they don’t have enough money, I will forget about it.

Once a week, my father would bring me to those Boot Sale… where people sell their goods straight from their car boots. Most of the times, those goods are second hand goods. 😀 I loved this time of the week the most, because my father would buy me those second hand toys and books for me. They were very cheap. One could get a teddy bear at as low as 20p each, and second hand books at 10p each. That was a real bargain to us, considering all of the goods are usually in tip top condition.

I can still remember. My father bought me A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster, Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers, St. Clare’s and many more books by Ladybird’s Publication. My father bought a lot of books for me to read from the Boot Sale. And I would be really ecstatic because I don’t need to return them to the library once I finish reading them.

I love A Little Princess and Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers and St. Clare’s the most. Do you know what these books have in common? The plot of these books are set in boarding or Independent Schools. Books that’s centered around boarding schools really intrigue me. They’re usually very descriptive, and gets my imagination goes amok. I could wonder all night long on how huge and castle-like those boarding schools looks like and how ancient their libraries are.

Sometimes, apart from imagining how beautiful their school is, my mind would also stray to their libraries, where thousands of books and scriptures are kept for the benefit of the students.

Boarding schools’ libraries are always a mystery to me. I always imagine the characters in the books walking around in the middle of the night with a torchlight or a candle to look for some books to solve some mysteries or a murder.

I also admire the characters in those stories. School is always a part of their lives, and there will be a lot of adventures and misadventures in those Independent or boarding schools. I love to read about the characters’ antics during their term in school, and it really amaze me on how independent they can be.

And like many boarding school students… the students are usually smart and studious…well, they are, most of the time… when they’re not up to any mischief, that is.

I wonder if parents these days still buy classic story books for their children to read? I did not see much parents encouraging their children to read classics. I wonder why? Classics are a part of literary component and I think classic stories such as these instill great moral values to the readers too. Apart from high moral values, these classics too, emphasize on how important it is to be well mannered, having structures in their life and also how crucial it is to have a disciplined life.

Cleffairy: I don’t get it. Why…classics seems to be forgotten by today’s parents and teachers? Education is not just about exams, you know?

Super service by Eoe online

Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT A PAID REVIEW

Remember my review on Eoe Online?  The online photo company that takes photo printing orders online and deliver it to your doorstep? Well… I’ve received my 50 4R and 2 8R photos from them, along with two photo albums. 😀

And I was really surprised with their efficient service. And through my correspondence with their staff via email, they are professional and friendly too.

They really did a good job. Eoe Online processed my photos really fast and had it delivered to me via courier service known as Skynet within 1 working day. Amazing. Initially I expected them to take at least 3 days to process my order. It was really a surprise to receive the photos this morning. I highly recommend Eoe Online to those people who are busy and not good at waiting. 😀

Currently they are having this promotion.

RM0.30 per 4R print and RM0.50 per 5R print with FREE free delivery for orders above RM35.00

Quality wise is good too. The photos comes out really clear. Only a few came out blurred, and that’s not even their fault, as the original photos are already blurred.

Take a look at the pictures below. They’re from Eoe Online. 😀 Can you recognize who is the subject of the photos? 😀

Well, that cute little boy is my… ahem… my unofficial Over A Cuppa Tea model. And his mum is my uh…. unofficial photographer.

And below is my cat’s picture. LOL…

Why didn’t I put my own photos here? Well… I am not photogenic and I am not special, as many would have me believe. It’s a waste of people’s time and effort to snap my pictures.

I’m… graphically speaking I’m a challenge, and people are better off elsewhere instead of helping me snap my pictures as my pictures will usually turn out really ugly and not nice. My face would ruin group photos too, I believe… so I’ll just spare you folks from looking at this fairy with the face of a Medusa.

Cleffairy: How many out there wants me out of the picture? I think it’ll make your pictures a lot prettier, considering how ugly and awful I am.

Health food: Whey Protein

I have a bestie, or rather, a partner in crime who is now working as a personal trainer in a local gym. We grew up together but we’re like heaven and Earth. We’re totally different beings, but I think we complement and get along with each other just fine. After all we have been friends since we were 11 years old.

My bestie, she’s a very health conscious person. Which means, she goes to gym to work out even before she started to venture into the fitness and body building industry. While me, on the other hand, is somewhat nonchalant when it comes to health and fitness. She’s the kind who would count her calorie intakes as she eat while I don’t really care about calories. As long as the food taste good, anything goes, even if it’s unhealthy.

She could go on and on and on, talking about health supplements and why whey protein is essential in body building and fitness industry. Truthfully, I am not a bit familiar about health supplements as well as whey proteins and whatnot. I am practically illiterate when it comes to these sort of things.

And so, I looked up supplements UK where there are loads of infos on health food supplements provided.

According to supplements UK, whey protein is is a high quality protein powder made from cow’s milk. Milk has two proteins: Casein (approximately 80%) and Whey Protein (approximately 20%).

Whey protein is more soluble than casein and also has a higher quality rating. It is often referred to as the gold standard of protein as it is the most nutritious protein available.

Whey protein is a high quality, complete protein, with all the essential amino acids and is also the richest known source of naturally occurring branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine). And so, whey protein are important for active individuals, individuals who exercise a lot, bodybuilders and professional athletes.

So is whey protein for me? No. Not quite. It’s not quite for me, cuz I I don’t exercise much. I only swim a few times a month, and that’s merely for relaxing, not exercising. But whey proteins is certainly for sizzling hot and virile men like this. 😀

And this…

And definitely this…

Good grief, working out and taking whey protein does that to one’s body? Hmmm… I better stop and run to the nearest gym for some eye candies instead before my imaginations runs wilder. 😀 Anyone with me?

Cleffairy:  I kinda know why my bestie got so hooked in the gym. Tsk tsk tsk! Shame on you, Pau! 😛

Letters to Juliet

Cleffairy needs a little bit of a breather, and so, nothing serious from me today, folks. But instead, I want to share a movie trailer with all of you. I’ve watched this trailer more than 10 times, and definitely anticipating this summer romance movie, starring Amanda Seyfield. Yes, she’s the same actress who played Sophie in Mama Mia.

Letters to Juliet will be in Cinema in May 2010. So don’t go around looking for the movie just yet.

Letters to Juliet is about a young American, Sophie who travels to Verona, Italy – the city of love and home of star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet. There, she meets a group of volunteers who responds to letters written to Juliet seeking advice about love. After answering one lost, 50-year-old letter, she inspires its author to travel to Italy and embark on a journey to search for her long-lost love.

This sets off a chain of events that brings a love into both their lives unlike anything they ever imagined, and gives Sophie the courage to discover herself and follow her heart.

I was really impressed with the trailer, though I felt that they revealed too much in the trailer and the trailer itself tells the entire story. However, being a hopeless romantic with a mush for brain, I anticipate this movie nevertheless. Have a look at the trailer while I goes *poof* and starts writing on my script again for Script Frenzy 2010.

Cleffairy: Some movies will inspire you, while a great others will bore you. This one definitely inspire me. It tells me to appreciate what I have around me and live life to the fullest. It also taught me how important it is to do what your heart tells you to do.

Masquerade@Irenelim Fashion

Not so long ago, in a place not so far away, there lived a fairy princess. Her name was Astrea. She fell in love with someone she’s not supposed to…A Devil King by the name of Narcissus. Their love was forbidden, and they were not supposed to be together. Yet, they went against the law of their kingdoms and gets married anyway.

The evil sorceress who was supposed to be Narcissus’s betrothed was infuriated, and she casts a spell on the beautiful fairy princess on their wedding night. She was condemned to forget him for all eternity and she was sent to Earth to live the life of a mortal young woman.

Unwilling to let go of her, Narcissus swore to break the spell and followed her to Earth to reclaim her all over again. Years pass by, and try as he might, he couldn’t find her, and so, he decided to host a masquerade and invite every single ladies to it, hoping that his beloved would somehow appear in the masquerade.

The fairy princess happened to find out about the masquerade that the Devil King was hosting, and she was completely intrigue by it, and so, she wander the street, slightly lost, as she doesn’t have anything suitable to wear.

And as Astrea absent-mindedly walk on the street, she bumped into a witch. This witch is a modern witch who happens to work for an online boutique known as Irenelim Fashion. Seeing the princess’s troubled expression, the witch asked the princess what’s bothering her, and so, the princess told the kind witch that she wanted to attend the masquerade that will be held soon, but she have nothing suitable to wear, and it’s unlikely that she’ll be able to attend it as she’s completely broke.

The witch then cackled with joyful laughter and told the princess that she bumped into the right person, cuz Irenelim Fashion is having a campaign that’s known as the Witch Project, and if goes to the witch’s website, she’ll get further instruction from there on how to get a free dress from Irenelim Fashion.

And so, the princess went to check out Irenelim Fashion’s website as advised by the kind, beautiful witch, and she was completely in awe that the online boutique spoils the buyers with choice. Irenelim is an online boutique that sells many beautiful clothing fit for a princess.

The princess didn’t know which dress to choose for herself to attend the masquerade. Should she choose this?

This

Or

This?

The princess didn’t know, as all of the dresses are beautiful, and she’s completely amazed that they’re all at an affordable price as well.

Ah, yes… ladies and gentlemen, the princess did not know which dress should she choose for herself. Should she choose something sexy? Or something sweet? Will she get the perfect dress for the masquerade? Will her beloved recognize her in her dazzling dress as she hid her face beneath a mask? Will they be reunited again?

Stay tune to find out which dress the princess will choose and if she finally gets her happily ever after in the next installment of Masquerade@Irenelim Fashion.

Cleffairy: The teaser above is loosely based on my latest novel, A Royal Masquerade that will be available for purchase soon in the US. I’ll be blogging about it soon, but for now, kindly check out Irenelim Fashion, and find your own little magic over there. 😀

Dancing on the table…

Most of you should probably know by now that I’m rather known for my fiery and serious articles. My big bro Calvin used to tell people that sometimes, my writing left people stunned and reading my words sometimes made people feeel as if they were slapped on both of sides of their cheeks.

Claire thought I was well into my 30s or maybe 40s while Smallkucing sheepishly told me that she thought that I was a plump lady who was also well into her 30s. Thank God a certain Submerryn thought that I am somewhat a personification of a horny fairy. That was actually a compliment, considering that she actually thought that I’m a passionate and romantic woman.

Chrisau on the other hand, thought I was an Indian lady who’s way older than him while a good handful of others thought that I am a man, all just because I slammed women at times.

I wasn’t offended. No worries. It’s amusing. It’s all because of my writing, isn’t it? LOL…most would agree that I sounded very opinionated in my writings, and I hardly show the fun side of me.

Perhaps, most of you are not privileged enough to know that Cleffairy does have a wild and fun side. If you were to tell my school or friends that I am a serious, no-nonsense person, they would probably laughed their head off at your statement, because in truth, I was never a serious person when I was in school. Tell them that I’m a fiery person, they would probably stare at you in disbelief. I was all smile and no frown back then. It is just too bad that along the way, I had to grow up… perhaps a little bit before time as life is nothing but a bitch to me as soon as I left school. I was introduced to many nasty and ugly way of life, and I had to be nasty to survive.

I did many crazy things when I was in school, especially when I was in my honeymoon year. You know, Form 4. Form 4 was literally honeymoon year. It was fun, and I looked forward to go to school every day back then. I did many unthinkable things. Apart from playing football with my ‘boyfriends’ and swimming in the sea in the evening after school, I did many crazy things in the classrooms as well. The classrooms were not spared from witnessing my youthful antics.

I’m not quite sure if you people know what is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but to cut the long story short, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a famous Bollywood movie that sent many of us Malaysian youngsters into Bollywood fever. It hit everywhere back then, including the shore of my school.

One of the unthinkable thing that I did was danced to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on the table during recess time just because a friend challenged me to it. Yes… I did… I did danced on the table during recess time, and the best part was, a bunch of other rascals joined me and we danced while singing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on the top of our lungs. Within minutes, the classroom was turned into a mushy Bollywood scene.

Trust me… it was kinda fun attempting to dance like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol back then. And it is rather amazing that though none of us were Indian whose mother’s tongue was Hindi, we did sang the bloody song with a horrifying accuracy. I bet Shah Rukh Khan would have beamed with approval if he saw our antics. It was indeed a miracle that the table survived us.

I can scarcely believe that I actually did dance on the table with a bunch of boys who happened to be my best friends, and I escaped the wrath of my short, bald headmaster alive. Yea! Alive… unscathed at that as well. LOL…we were not punished for our antics. Incredible, isn’t it? There was no casualties, instead, we get to bring the sweet memories home with us, and it’s ours to keep.

My teachers, as well as the headmaster, were rather sporting. Some passed by the classroom and did nothing. Instead, they just laughed at our antics and waited for us to sing and dance til the song ended and told us that recess would be over soon, and we ought to come down from the table.

Recalling those times, I wonder… how many teachers these days would let the students have their own classroom fun? I think…the possibility is zero. I’ve always felt that school teachers these days are rather rigid and too exam oriented that they forgot that school is supposed to be fun, and full of youthful exuberance. Headmasters and headmistress…on the other hands, would be worried sick for their students and overall school performance.

It is sad, isn’t it? Brats these days don’t get the crazy fun the brats in my time did. It is just sad that school is no longer place to learn and to grow up. Instead, it became a place where you sit and stare at the blackboard while trying hard to memorize whatever the teacher told you to memorize.

Anyway, I’m not in the mood for serious discussion today. It’s Sunday, and so here I am sharing the song that I danced to 9 years ago. It’s been ages, and almost a decade, but it’s still fresh in my memory.

In the spirit of Sunday morning, let’s sing along. Come now, don’t be shy. 😛

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Aah, aah aah aah

Tumne na jaane kya sapne dikhaaye
You don't know what dreams you showed me
Tum paas aaye, yun muskuraaye
You came close, smiled like this
Tumne na jaane kya sapne dikhaaye
You don't know what dreams you showed me
Ab to mera dil jaage na sota hai
Now my heart is neither awake nor asleep
Kya karoon haaye, kuch kuch hota hai - 2
What can I do, oh, something is happening

Bechainiyon mein chain
In this restlessness

I don't know why peace has started to come

Tanhaai mein dil yaadein sanjota hai
In loneliness my heart sorts through memories

Coupon Heaven: Coupon Chief

I’m not quite a fan of buying things online. Seriously. I’ll be very honest with you on that. I thought that sometimes, items are somewhat expensive, and I often wonder if buying from online stores is reliable. I don’t quite like the feeling of buying things and waiting for them to arrive at my doorsteps via courier as well. I’m never good at waiting, and somehow, anticipation kills! 🙁

But as of late, after being involved in NaNoWriMo and Script Frenzy, I have been exposed to online book publishing as well as ordering online ML kits where I’m required to make some payments in order to get some stuff to work, and I found myself wishing from the bottom of my heart that I have a discount code or some sort to enable me to enjoy lower prices and rates when I desperately need to buy things online. I wish for this especially when I was shopping for royalty free pictures to be used for my book cover design. I felt that it is not worth paying for such an expensive price for just a simple picture. It’s a royal pain in my PayPal account 🙁

I browsed around and found that actually there are loads of websites that offers free coupons for the online consumers to use, though not all of them is suitable for me to use. Among them is Couponchief.com.

Coupon Chief is one of the fastest growing coupon sites, with over 250k visitors/month. They have over 50k coupons for over 15000 stores, and the coupons are free for consumers to use. Talk about frugal online shopping. Honestly, I never really knew that there are such website out there that offers so many coupons for various online shops in just one database, and best part of it that it’s all completely free to use.

Some online stores really goes for the jugular, and I believe, if you’ve been doing online shopping all these while without any discount coupons during the checkout of your shopping cart, you have been wasting quite a decent amount of money. Trust me on this. I’ve been there, and burnt a hole in my pocket.

Next time you shop online, try checking out Coupon Chief, they have loads of coupons giveaways that will entitle you for discounts for various online shops and boutique. One of the many coupons over there might be the right one for you.

Coupon Chief is a website where you can browse and find coupons, discounts and deals for thousands of stores. The site lets you search for coupons and browse them by stores and popular product tags. All listed coupons are up to date and rated by community so that you don’t have to waste your time on expired coupons.

If you are an online entrepreneur, you might want to check their website as well. With Coupon Chief, you can also make money just by uploading coupons and sharing the savings. You can check it out further in their website on how to do it.

If you are a facebook or twitter user, you can consider being their  facebook fan or their twitter follower as well. They post their updates and special offers frequently on their facebook page as well.

People who practices frugal living often take time to do coupon clippings to save on their purchases. I used to do that when I was still studying in college. I tend to collect McD’s coupons… you know… buy one Big Mac free one Fillet O Fish kinda coupons. I’m still doing coupon clippings, though not McD’s.

I’m quite amazed, actually, that now if you shop online, you can also use coupons to save on your online purchase. Trust me… when you use coupons, you can actually save heaps when buying from online stores.

Cleffairy: Every penny counts. Save up, folks.
