I absolutely love ‘The Near Witch’ by Victoria Schwab. It’s a perfect blend of romantic fantasy and fairy tale. The storyline was highly original and I have to say that the author have quite a way in expressing her imagination.

I find the story is refreshing and unpredictable, and that is really something for a fairy tale.

I highly recommend this book to all those who enjoy reading fantasy. You wouldn’t want to miss the world of magic and wonders that this book had to offer.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Disney-Hyperion via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review for this book.

Book description:

The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.

If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.

And there are no strangers in the town of Near.

These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.

But when an actual stranger—a boy who seems to fade like smoke—appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.

The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. Still, he insists on helping Lexi search for them. Something tells her she can trust him.

As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know—about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.

In conjunction of Artemis Fowl 10 years anniversary, Disney-Hyperion sent me a complimentary copy of Artemis Fowl book. To be honest, I haven’t even read Artemis Fowl before and I discovered that so far, there’s 7 books in the series, and the story is amazing. The author has confirmed that the series will end in the next book, and the eighth book is scheduled to be released in 2012.

Artemis Fowl is an amazing Young Adult series and I wondered why I did not think about picking up this book before. It’s wicked, highly entertaining is much more satisfying than reading the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.

Mercy

Title: Mercy

Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Imprint: Hyperion

Pub Date:17th May 2011

ISBN: 9781423145172

Author: Rebecca Lim

I’m a little bit concern over what reading material that can be considered safe for teenagers consumption these days. It seems that it’s somewhat a trend that the tales that is considered ‘safe’ for teenagers consumption are rather ‘dark’, and most heroines in young adult fiction these days tends to fall for bad boys.

Anyway, enough ranting. I am no teenager, and therefore, I thought it is completely safe for me to read ‘Mercy’ by Rebecca Lim without having to feel disturbed after finishing the book.

But I was wrong. The tale is so moving, so intense and so heart-wrenching at some point that I found myself feeling the angst of the characters.

This book is not to be read when you’re depressed or emotionally unstable, for you will feel the effect without failed.

Mercy is a good story nevertheless. I would recommend this book to older teens, and I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

This is my first time reviewing for Disney-Hyperion Publisher, and boy am I glad that I’ve been given an opportunity by Disney-Hyperion to review their ARCs for they made the child in me giggle in amusement when I read their books, especially this one: Aliens on Vacation by Clete Smith.

Aliens on Vacation is about a young boy helping out his grandmother in a bed and breakfast specially for space tourists. READ: Aliens.

The story was really amusing, funny, and well written. I daresay this story will amuse not only children, but adults as well too.

The storyline was original and highly imaginative, and with loads of moral packed in in.
