The Capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, witnessed the “Southeast Asian Ulama Conference”, which was officiated by His Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaqoub, and His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, with the participation of His Excellency Senator Dato’ Haji Idris bin Haji Ahmed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Religious Affairs, and 44 religious leaders and figures from 17 countries. The conference appreciated the Malaysian Prime Minister’s approval to establish the Southeast Asian Ulama Council in Kuala Lumpur under the umbrella of the World Muslim League.

The conference also recommended that the unity of the ummah must be based on the principle of tolerance and good interaction among human beings as instructed by Islam. The participants emphasized on confronting and rejecting extremism, and endeavoured to instil the principles of love and compassion in human hearts regardless of religion and races.

The participants also recommended that the principles of tolerance and respect for the rights of others should be a priority to achieve global peace and security, while emphasizing that future peace and security plans should be developed by the nation’s leaders based on general Maqashid Shari’ah in order to build a country full of security, peace, progress, and unity, just as the Qur’an has called for in His Almighty word: “Baldatun Thayyibatun wa Rabbun Ghafuur”. The conference also recommended that Fiqh of Coexistence, which known as the fiqh of life, must be the basis for the agenda of every country to build a new future based on complete unity and harmony among all people of the nation.

The conference participants also recommended strengthening the unity of the ummah by adhering to the aqidah of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaa’ah to ensure that Islamic teachings reach the community in the right way and approach. The conference also stressed that the differences that occur among Muslims must be stopped, and Muslims must play a more effective role and commit to Islamic brotherhood and solidarity with each other to build the ‘Khairu Ummah’.
The conference opened with a speech by His Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaqoub, in which he thanked the Department of Islamic Affairs Malaysia and the Muslim World League for holding this conference under the syi’ar “The Unity”, saying: “I am proud that Malaysia was chosen to host this conference by the Muslim World League. This is certainly an acknowledgment of our country, and highlights Islam as a religion of harmony, security and prosperity in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious manner. Representatives from abroad, especially the Muslim scholars, attend this conference. So I welcome all of you.”

His Excellency the Prime Minister conveyed that the holding of this conference took place at a time when Muslims are still facing various challenges, including differences among themselves, provocations from some parties, hatred of Islam or thoughts that endanger Islam, and in my opinion a solution must be found for that. That obviously requires the commitment and cooperation of all parties to maintain the purity of Islam and the solidarity of the Muslim ummah.

His Excellency the Prime Minister stressed the need for all Muslim Ulama to discuss, agree, unite and mobilize their ideas to reach solutions to the challenges facing Muslims around the world.

In closing, His Excellency the Prime Minister said: “We are knitting and strengthening the unity with bonds of love and tolerance as one nation, and it has started with the spirit and strength that unites us today. My great hope is that all Muslim Ulama can find common ground to play an effective role towards unity and forming a khairu ummah.”

After that, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, delivered a speech in which he said: “We are all delighted today by this extraordinary gathering that brings together Ulama, in countries that have importance and weight on the map of our Islamic world and the world in general, namely the countries of Southeast Asia.

His Excellency emphasized that the diversity of humans and their differences, especially their religion, is a divine destiny determined by the wisdom of the Creator, as stated in His word: walau syā`allāhu laja’alakum ummataw wāḥidataw wa lākil liyabluwakum fī mā ātākum (If Allah wills , He would have made you one people (only), but Allah wants to test you against the bounty He has given you). So as long as religious and ethnic differences are universal problems that cannot be eliminated, then at least what everyone should do to ensure a “safe and just” coexistence is to prevent differences from turning into hatred and hostility towards others, then targeting them with exclusion and deprivation of their rights to decent life.

Dr. Al-Issa explained that we find similarities between religions that guarantee the achievement of national harmony and unity for all, and human brotherhood. And religion (actually) is not a call for division (both in the national level and humanity), but the religion of Islam “specifically” welcomes peace, and makes peace sentences in the worship of a Muslim and his social

interactions, promising His servants heaven as a place full of peace, and He Almighty Allah also refers to Himself as the Most Peaceful Essence, and says of the enemies who fight with the words, “wa in janaḥụ lis-salmi fajnaḥ lahā” (But if they are inclined towards peace, then accept it). This is the reality of Islam, and not as faked by extremists and terrorists.
His Excellency pointed out that Islamic law can only be taken from Ulama Rabbani who inherited beneficial knowledge from their Prophet, our Prophet Muhammad PBUH, (just like the Ulama at this noble gathering). Emphasizing that the truth of Islam is not taken from an ignorant person, or from someone who goes down the path of extremism, violates Islamic guidelines in terms of convenience and does good to everyone, or who chooses to carry an ideology with goals that are contrary to Islam, such as a person who reduces this great and comprehensive religion to a narrow political goal. Just as Islam was not taken from the intent and purpose of falsifying facts, nor from people who hastily accepted religion from a single source and wrong perception, or who deliberately misled.

Dr. Al-Issa gave an example that among these misperceptions is the generalization of mistakes by some people who are affiliated with Islam so that they are considered as representations of religion, as has been reminded in the Charter of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, which was signed by more than 1,200 muftis and ulama (under the protection of the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud) May Allah protect him.

His Excellency stressed that the gathering of Ulama Muslim at one and the same level is an urgent need to address major issues, and because Southeast Asian Ulama have become an important association close to issues in general. That is why this historic conference was held in the capital city of peace, harmony and moderation, Kuala Lumpur. This is in addition to the geographical proximity to all, which also has an impact on a number of shar’i legal issues, where fatwas and legal decisions differ according to time, place and conditions.

Sheikh Al-Issa said: “We are pleased that this conference is a good start for a permanent assembly whose Ulama will meet from time to time under the global umbrella of Muslims, the World Muslim League, whose headquarter is the mecca that unites us all, and the Muslim World League is always happy to support any conference that brings together the voices of the Muslim Ulama, especially on the main issues of this ummah. I am also Happy with the approval of His Excellency Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri bin Yaqoub, to establish this Assembly in Kuala Lumpur and to sponsor and open it for its first session next year, Insyaa Allah.

His Excellency concluded his speech by thanking everyone who contributed to this conference by praying for it, participating in its activities or directly sponsoring it, especially to the Malaysian government led by His Excellency the Prime Minister, who has shown all what is worthy of appreciation.

Furthermore, the Minister of Religious Affairs, Senator Dato Haji Idris bin Haji Ahmed, explained that Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, and is known internationally as a harmonious and safe country, and diversity in traditional and cultural life is not something new today, but rather something that has been passed down for a long time from previous generations, where every race, ethnicity and whole society cooperate with one another and enjoy equal freedom to practice religious and cultural beliefs in a peaceful and secure environment.

He also noted that Islam calls for tolerance and coexistence with non-Muslims and safeguarding their rights. Therefore, harmony between different races and religions must exist in every country.

At the end of his remarks, Senator Idris expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the World Muslim League for choosing Malaysia as a strategic partner to organize the conference, which was held for the first time in Southeast Asia, to show the solidarity of Islamic unity.
Meanwhile the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr Abdullah Shahid, thanked the Muslim World League and the Malaysian government for hosting this conference, and their continued efforts to advance the true values of Islam. Humility, tolerance, empathy and cooperation among our people are the same Islamic values this conference seeks to promote and spread in this difficult time, where the world is witnessing deep trauma that we have not seen for generations.
Mr. Shahid also explained that “the world is currently facing the impact of the conflict with (Covid 19) and the climate crisis. So it is these values that will unite us and help our people to increase their strength. Let us use this platform to strengthen solidarity in our society and to root out forces that undermine such solidarity, such as the forces of religious extremism and violence that have no place in the laws of our society, and the realization that this vision requires the collective efforts of all of us, including religious, intellectual and civil society leaders.”

Perkongsian Mentor Usahawan : Datuk Wira Dr Azizan Osman

Things I’ve Learned Through Scuba Diving in Limited Visibility Dive Spots

I went exploring the Saujana Putra Lake again over the weekend with my husband and my dive buddy.

This weekend dive marks my 9th freshwater, limited visibility dive. My first two was in Empangan Semenyih, Selangor while the rest was at Saujana Putra Lake.

It may not be my first limited visibility dive, but each of these dives still feels like the first to me. Most dive buddies in my circle are are sea divers. Naturally, diving in the sea, especially tropical ones like in Malaysia is like exploring paradise. The tropical sea water is nothing short of crystal clear, and a home to abundance of marine lives. The only time Malaysian seas and islands gives bad visibility and weather is probably during monsoon season, which unadventurous and untrained divers commonly avoid for safety reasons.

Many of my dive buddies cannot understand why I’m so fond of lake diving. Lake diving is not the same as diving in the sea, especially in Malaysia, as the visibility can be as crappy as 0m-1m max, but I’ve learned plenty of things through freshwater lake diving:

* I learned to be more mindful of the weight I carry and to make extra effort to watch my buoyancy. Kicking mud up is a no, no. As it will make things worst for everyone.

* It builds alot of confidence and I’ve learned to be calm and not panic in alot of underwater situations.

*I’m not a patient person, but this help me have compassion and be more patient towards those who are diving with me.

* Limited visibility trained me to be more observant towards the surroundings. If you are not observant, you cannot spot anything at all and you wouldn’t be able to enjoy your dive.

* I learned the importance of exposure suit and how dressing up for the occasion is helpful in protecting you from hazards and unexpected injuries.

* I learned to quickly adjust to the changes of temperature and visibility; cuz there’s thermocline here. The temperature can be warm one moment and the very next moment at the same depth it can suddenly turn very cold. The water colour changed drastically too at certain depth. One moment it can be clear green then the next moment it can be yellowish or muddy.

*I learned to make effort to be alert all the time.

* I learned to make effort to be more self-reliant instead of totally relying on my guide or my dive buddy to keep me safe, as losing buddy and direction is really common when you dive in limited visibility.

Despite of this, I still have more to learn. To me, as long as I’m a scuba diver, I will always be a student diver. The learning will never stop, and I will always need instructors and more teachers to teach me and guide me. That’s the most funny thing about learning. The more you learn, the more you realized that you know less. It’s really humbling, if you ask me.

One thing for sure, this will definitely not be my last dive here. Some stuff I’ve learned here, is not something I can cultivate in pool trainings. I’m itching to do more dives at this spot, especially night dive. There’s even more to see at night over here in the lake.

Freshwater limited visibility diving is not for faint hearted scuba divers or freedivers alike. If you’re not adventurous and have no sense of adventure, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy it, but if you’re someone who doesn’t mind going rugged and extreme dive, then you should give this a try if you haven’t yet.

New Year’s Eve Flood Relief Charity Lake Dive with iDivers

2021 was a challenging year. Not just for me but for everyone else as well, I’m sure. Covid19 is still raging, but despite being thrown into nationwide lockdown during the first two quarters of the year, I’m glad there’s growth where personal development is concerned. These are some of the things that I should give myself credit for;

*

😎I took up plenty of diving specialty

.

😎I got certified for Nitrox.

.

😎I went lake diving for the first time at Semenyih Dam and fell in love with lake diving.

.

😎I was awarded Specialty Diver by SSI.

.

😎I attended first aid classes, learned how to provide first aid, perform CPR and use AED and I’m now a certified Basic Life Support Provider.

.

😎I started learning Qigong and Taichi, and ended up doing it consistently

.

😎I learned how to wield cold weapons and I can now play with sword and sabre.

.

😎I learned the art of meditation and mindfulness.

.

Come to think of it, it’s not exactly a year wasted. I’ve made plenty of good progress, and that’s really a lot in comparison to the years before Covid. The best part of all? My social circle is now full of people who helped me grow and push me to be the best version of myself. And speaking of people who empower one another, I decided to end end 2021 meaningfully with a splash, and kicked off 2022 with a big splash as well. Literally. And figuratively. And how was it splashy? Well, I went for the new year’s eve and midnight countdown charity dive organized by iDivers and #habangostatclan. If you are a Malaysian, you are probably aware that the nation was shocked by the recent flood disaster in Klang Valley and many has lost their homes and belongings. In the spirit of #kitajagakita, iDivers decided to organize a flood relief charity dive. Here’s sharing with you the faces of my buddies who were there that night, hoping to have some underwater midnight fun at the lake and at the same time, help out our buddy in need.Dive pros from SSI, PADI and IANTD worked hand in hand as our dive guide that night.Behind the scene before our night exploration.Equipment checkMe and my husband. He was my dive buddy that night. With Ms. Syahnaz and Anna Maria from KAIA Underwater AcademyMy new dive buddy, Ms. AinNew dive buddy, Ms.EchaWith Colonel (Dr) Mohd Hafizi, Senior Consultant Emergency and Hyperbaric Medicine at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan.Dive briefing was done by Instructor Arif from iDivers.Instructor Arif, making sure everyone understands the dos and don’ts that night before our dive. Now, most of us are just normal civilians, and we are not trained or qualified to be in the front scene to help flood victims, but as scuba divers, we certainly can dive for charity.Diving for charityAll proceeds for the donation drive and the new year’s eve and midnight countdown dive that night goes to one of our dive buddy who is affected by the recent flood disaster. Any extras would be donated to the needy as well.I don’t know what’s in store for 2022, and I don’t have a resolution for it. All I’m hoping is that I will be empowered and my days will be happy and blessed with no worries.Thank you buddies for making such beautiful memories. You guys are awesome.

GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair Review

I’ve been contemplating of a workstation upgrade and change my not so comfy office chair to a better one, but I can’t find any good deals that’s worth my money, so I’ve been putting it off, until I saw this one, the GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair. To be honest, I was aiming to get the TT Racing Duo V3 Gaming Chair, which costs about RM350 during sale and RM500++ during non sale time. This is abit over my budget, and did not exactly have the function that I wanted.I wanted the reclining to 180’degrees position and adjustable arm rest. The entree level TT Racing Duo V3 Gaming Chair does not offer this function. It can only be adjusted to 150’degrees and the arm rest is not adjustable. There’s also this annoying cushion at the front crotch area that I don’t really fancy. There are other TT Racing Gaming Chair that offers the functions that I wanted, of course, but they’re the higher end models and abit on the high side of the budget as well and I wasn’t willing to spend such exorbitant amount of money.After browsing and weighting my options, I settled with this GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair. It has all the features that I need, including reclining to 180’degrees, which will allow me to lie down for a nap and adjustable arm rest. The best part of this is that it costs me only RM290 including delivery, which is below my budget for a new office chair upgrade.So, am I happy with my purchase? Yes, definitely. No regrets. The GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair is not only affordable, but very comfy too. Here’s sharing with you what I think about it;

.

Design: It’s pretty much like other gaming chair in the market, but still smart and sleek. The ergonomic shape with wing-like backrest really does follows your body shape. It’s practically the sports car seat design and somehow made you feel like you’re sitting in a sports car seat.

.

Comfort: Very comfortable. The paddings and cushions. It comes with two extra external pillows as well for your neck and your waist.Swivel: Yes, the chair allows smooth 360’degrees swiveling.Adjustable height: Yes, you can adjust the height as you like.

.

Reclining: Able to recline from 90’degrees up to 170’degrees, which is great for any setups, be it for work, gaming or leisurely movie watching session. It’s also nice to nap on it. All you need to do is just pull the lever and make it recline and you’re good to go to Dreamland.

.

So am I happy with my new GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair? Yes. I’m definitely happy with it. Although the chair does make you feel a little hot due to the faux leather material, it’s still comfortable to sit on for long hours as the cushion paddings is thick enough to support my weight. Sitting on the chair makes me feel like sitting in a comfortable car seat, going on a roadtrip somewhere and it’s really a good feeling. The only thing it lacks to complete the fantasy is just a Bluetooth speaker blasting my favourite traveling songs.

If you’re looking for a budget gaming chair with features that’s offered in higher end gaming chair, this GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair is quite a good bet, I must say. This gaming chair is available on Lazada and Shopee for less than RM300. To get more value for your money, I recommend you to get this during sale where you get further bonus discounts and free delivery.

.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. I just hope to help you make decisions on whether to buy this or not should you decide to buy a budget gaming chair.

Facial acne, though common among adolescents and young adults, impacts their quality of life. Studies have shown that acne can cause psychosocial disturbances such as depression and anxiety. Citing a research done by Brody, 2019, “acne is not a killer, but it can scar people literally and psychologically.”
In addressing issues arising from facial acne and also to offer a solution to help with acne care, Mentholatum has launched a new skincare range for acne and oily-prone skin known as Mentholatum Acnes.

It aims to help consumers achieve visibly clear and healthy-looking skin through its range of products containing naturally derived ingredients to help address acne and oily troubled skin effectively whilst providing gentle care to the skin.

According to a survey by Mentholatum, 72% of respondents experienced improved skin condition after 30 days of using the Mentholatum Acnes, whereas 3 out of 4 said their skin condition improved just after 7 days thereby giving them more self-confidence.

The apple extract also works alongside with Salicylic Acid for gentle exfoliation; while bitter cherry extract is added to improve skin’s elasticity, leaving the skin plump and youthful.

Mentholatum Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel (RM21.90, 18g)

Collagen Drink for Health and Beauty, Sakura Collagen+

It’ll be a huge lie if I say the endless lockdown is not affecting me mentally and physically. I’m not sure how it’s like for everyone else, but the endless lockdowns in Malaysia and a whole long list of restrictions does affect me terribly, considering how active a person I was during the pre-Covid era. Living in uncertainties and being under ‘home arrest’ does not sit well with me.

I threaded the so called ‘new normal’ battling with depression as well as severe panic and anxiety attacks whenever I see bad news floating around on my social media’s timelines.

I lived in a very dark place for quite some time. I lived in a limbo and it is not until February 2021 that I started to slowly reclaimed my life. I looked at myself in the mirror and thought how awful I have become and how disgusting it is that I just live my life by doing merely these; eat- watch dramas- sleep- repeat. And how stupid I have been living my life by just doing the same thing over and over again daily and having no progress at all where it matters.

I decided that living such a life will destroy me both mentally and physically and I have to do something about it, and I did. I was determined to live an active and a healthier lifestyle even under a lockdown and emerge a healthier person before Covid19 strike.

I took baby steps in reclaiming my life by continuing to continue my scuba diving education by taking up dry specialties even though diving is still not allowed yet and I decided to take up martial arts to boost my stamina and my confidence. My choice of practice; Taichi and Qigong. It’s a gentle energy art that actually helps in slowly boosting your stamina.

Here’s yours truly after about 6 month of Taichi and Qigong practice.

Yes, I took it further by learning how to use weapons too.

Me practising Fan Taichi move

Here’s me and my Sabre.

Sword practice is also a part of the Taichi class’s lesson and it’s one of my favourite weapons among all to practice as it helps me to dispel negative energy and helps me de-stress effectively.

A friend recently commented that I looked good in the pictures I’ve shared on my social media. It’s really a nice compliment, but good health takes a lot of efforts, actually. There’s no short cuts about it. Apart from taking care of myself physically, I also watched what I eat. I forgo unhealthy food and choose to consume food grown from plants instead of those made in plants as well. Apart from that, I also supplemented my health with vitamins and collagen.

Here’s one that I’m currently consuming; Sakura Collagen+.

Sakura Collagen+ is a beauty collagen drink that combines exclusive patented ingredients and natural extracts which are sakura extract (prunus lannesiana wils), verisol collagen peptides, tetrasod microalgae, Japanese yuzu seeds, and also roselle extract.

Sakura Collagen+ is also formulated with antioxidant TetraSOD (tetraselmis chuii) from Spain acts as protection from free radical damages on the skin. It is specially formulated to prevent the formation of wrinkles, inhibit melanin production, increase skin collagen content, and lock in moisture.

I’ve been consuming this Sakura Collagen+ for about half a month.

While the effect is not immediate where I cannot see obvious effect within a few days, but it does show quite a promising effect after one week.

My usually flaky skin seems to be more hydrated and smooth to the touch and my hair no longer falls after brushing like I’ve just done a few sessions of chemotherapy. That’s quite a surprise, actually, as I have considerably long hair and my hair always falls after brushing them.

Another thing to note that after consuming Sakura Collagen+ for about two weeks, there’s noticeable difference in my bowel movements as well. I no longer suffer from constipation and my energy level seems to be top notch, and I can now practice my Qigong and Taichi for 2 hours daily consistently. Not sure if the Sakura Collagen+ boosted my stamina as well or it’s already build up from my constant practice throughout the 6 months, but still, a
yay to that, definitely.

I guess Sakura Collagen+ does not only help me maintain my youthful good looks and healthy skin, but it helps to boost my energy level throughout the day as well. So do I recommend this for all of you out there who wants to maintain a ‘healthier you’? Well, yes. Definitely. I highly recommend this for your daily consumption, regardless of your gender.

E-learning Experience with Kaia Underwater Academy, a One Stop Learning Centre for Scuba Divers

For most certified scuba divers, diving is a recreational activity that they indulge in; exploring and enjoying the beauty of the marine life, but for me, diving is not just about jumping into the water to see the beauty of the underwater world. To me, diving is a serious sport that’s not only physically demanding, but requires you to be knowledgeable as well. Practical skills and theory must walk hand in hand, or you can’t call yourself a competent diver.

In my opinion, diving is all about knowledge and lifelong learning as well. It’s something that must be done responsibly. Knowing just how to dive in the water and swim along in the current but not knowing what’s going on with your body while you’re diving, not aware of your environment and not knowing how to handle crisis when situation calls for it does not make you a competent diver.

Yes, it is important to keep blowing bubbles and brush up your diving skills as you go along. I don’t deny that. But personally speaking, I think it’s also important to continuously equip yourselves with knowledge and theory about diving as well so that you know when to apply it when you’re diving. You got to keep improving and keep upgrading your knowledge as you go along.

Being supremely bored due to travel restrictions aside, wanting to be a competent diver got me constantly looking for dry courses as well, where I can learn more about diving and it’s technicalities as well as everything that’s related to it. Problems? Yes. Not all dive centres in Malaysia offers a one stop e-learning centre with proper facilities to accommodate real-time online-learning.

Luckily for me though, there’s KAIA Underwater Academy. Apart from being your regular dive centre that offers all services that’s related to scuba diving, KAIA Underwater Academy is an SSI dive centre that facilitates real-time e-learning at your convenience. We’re talking about real stuff here; e-learning with proper studio that offers smooth experience and clarity that can rival a face-to-face learning experience without interrupting noises and internet speed disruption.

My first online course with KAIA Underwater Academy was SSI Marine Ecology Specialty. It’s was a specialty course fully sponsored by SSI. I’ll be completely honest with you. I stumbled upon a posting about them offering the course to divers and non-divers alike for free in a Facebook group. Naturally, as a person who likes freebies, I signed up for it, even though I’m not a diver that was certified by SSI. (I took my Open Water with PADI and trained with SDI)

Since it’s just an online course with no practicals required, just some self-learning and answering knowledge reviews via MySSI apps/website, I didn’t expect much from it even though there’s one compulsory class that must be attended before they issue a certificate of completion.

The class was done via Zoom. I was expecting the entire experience to be another one of those boring webinar, where no interaction whatsoever during the zoom session but I was completely wrong with my initial impression.

The class was highly interactive with loads of interaction between instructor in charge and participants of the course. My, instructor, Ms. Shahnaz Adilah was also very helpful in answering questions. In the SSI Marine Ecology specialty program, I learned how ocean organisms interact with each other and their environments and how energy flows through communities and the links between different ocean ecosystems. Through the program, I was also taught how to be a responsible diver by co-existing with the marine ecosystem in a non-destructive manner. It was indeed a great learning experience for me.

My second specialty course with KAIA Underwater Academy was the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty. This is a program that allow divers to learn new skills and increase their knowledge whilst learning how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen.

I have always wanted to take up this course as although diving with Nitrox does not allow you to dive deeper in comparison to diving with air, but it does help to increase your bottom time and allow you to dive longer. Apart from that, it also shortens the surface interval and some says it helps to reduce fatigue. This will definitely be very useful for me if I were to go for a multi-days-diving trip where time is definitely an essence and I would want to dive and explore as much as possible in a short period of time.

Again, the e-learning experience with KAIA Underwater Academy is fantastic. Reading manual alone does not cut it for this course as SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty requires divers who takes up this course to understand alot of technical part of it.

Unlike my learning experience with Marine Ecology, the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty is not as straight forward as I taught it will be. There’s dive planning and calculations involved, something that’s definitely not my forte.

To be honest, I have never passed my maths and anything related to it since I started going to highschool. My maths score was always D and below, much to my parents’ chagrin. I’m more to the art kind of girl but my Nitrox instructor, Mr.Suhaimi Salleh have made it simple enough for me to easily understand things that’s otherwise complicated and I’m very grateful that I managed to pass this course and I’m now licensed to dive with Nitrox. I believe this course have given me an added value as a diver and I’m glad that I made the decision to sign up for this one.

The most recent course that I signed up with KAIA Underwater Academy was the SSI Dive Computer Specialty. I signed up this one for both myself and my husband to commemorate his birthday, and also our 19th wedding anniversary, which happens to be on the same day. I’ve always thought that birthday cakes and fancy dinner as overrated and would usually travel or go for a getaway to celebrate but since travel ban is still enforced due to the Covid19 pandemic, what could be better than the gift of knowledge for both of us?

Now, if you’re a diver and wondering; why take this specialty? You can just read the divecom’s manual to understand divecom. It’s not as if we need a cert or license to use a divecom. All divers can use it. If you think it’s a waste of time or money, that’s where you’re wrong.

SSI Dive Computer Specialty course does more than just guiding you on how to use your divecom and how to plan your dives, but it’s practically an introduction to decompression diving where you’re taught quite extensively on safety aspect of it. This course also touched abit on Nitrox &multi-gas diving and what to do if you exceeds your NDL limit. If you’re planning to go into technical diving/techrec, this is definitely something you will have to learn along the way. I seriously recommend this course, to both old and new divers alike. You’ll be amazed on how much you can learn during the entire course.

One thing I like about e-learning with KAIA Underwater Academy is that the classes are all real time, and presentations are clear and uninterrupted, thanks to the state of the art studio facility that they have.

If you have any questions, you can raise it and your instructor will immediately assist you and show you how things are done through the screen. Most meetings/ classes that I’ve attended via Zoom or Google meet is not as convenient as this as the teachers/presenters still struggle to show things to the attendees if they don’t prepare the material for presentation beforehand, but with KAIA Underwater Academy, such thing is non-existent.

These are the things that makes me feel happy these days, despite the gloomy situations; diving Specialty certifications and those congratulatory notifications whenever I completed the course.

Anyway, now that you’re forced into a long surface interval as your government enforces travel and recreational restrictions, why not consider signing up for some specialties and gain some knowledge
while waiting for the day we can dive again? KAIA Underwater Academy is offering plenty more dry courses like React Right, Science of Diving and many more.
