Great Display of Sportsmanship at Freediving Adventure Malaysia Mock Competition

Money can buy a lot of things. Money can buy power, money can buy companionship& ‘friendship’ and heck, money can even buy sex. Money definitely can buy alot of things in the world but there is one thing that money cannot buy. Money cannot buy respect. I always believe that respect is not given. But it’s earned instead. You can force people to do a lot of things, but can’t go around demanding people to respect you. It is something you need to earn.

And speaking of respect, there’s one freediver that earned my respect and admiration. He’s Amir Noor. He was one of the athletes who competed in the mock competition organized by Freediving Adventure Malaysia.

During the competition, many athletes showed up without a personal surface coach. Seasoned freediving athletes would know that having a reliable and competent surface coach is very crucial in helping them perform with ease.

Seeing many athletes not having a coach with them during the competition, Amir stepped up and volunteered to be a surface coach for athletes who needed one on the spot once he was done with his turn. You can easily mistake him for being a professional paid coach if you saw him in action. Athletes were totally relaxed with him and he was not only encouraging, but attentive to them as they were performing as well.

Some of these athletes ended up performing better than Amir himself and did he go sour because of it and try to bring them down? No. He didn’t. Instead he celebrated their wins and achievements with joy written all over his face.

If this is not a great display of sportsmanship, I don’t know what is. Thank you Amir for doing all these. The world needs more people like you. And you made the freediving world a better and happier place for us all. 😄

If there is an award for The Best Display of Sportsmanship during the competition, it definitely should go to Amir.

Amir, you are my hero. 😄

Journey of A Freediving Athlete

The journey of an athlete is a walk in the park. Yups, that’s how I will describe it. A walk in the park; Jurassic Park, that is. With bloodthirsty rampaging dinosaurs and the whole nine yards. It’s literally all blood, sweat and tears. Not only athletes needs to be very disciplined, but to achieve their goals, they need to sacrifice a lot of energy, time and money as well. Apart from that, when an athlete decided to go down that path, there will always be naysayers who will dishearten and discourage them from achieving their goals.

In some scenarios, athletes are also targeted by cyber bullies. It doesn’t matter if they are newbies or seasoned athletes, there will always be haters who seems to dedicate their life to bring them down. There will always be people who will tell them that they will fail even before they try. Even when they are already established, there will always be people who will try hard to bring them down. Just look at our very own national athletes during Olympic. The amount of cyber bullying and criticism they received is ridiculously horrid!

It is also the same with my buddy Kingston when it comes to freediving. I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve seen people doubted him and try to discourage him. People think that he cannot achieve greatness or success, simply because he’s already in his senior years.

For what it’s worth, I’m glad he didn’t listen and persevered. Kingston has been with me since day 1 I was certified as a freediver and I’ve seen how much progress he has made along the way. We’ve been keeping each other company during pool sessions and more, and he too influenced me on the way I dive. Kingston somewhat shaped me into a freediver I am today and I’m more interested in being a Safety Diver and a coach than an athlete

I wasn’t really surprised to see him perform impressively during his STA during the mock competition. He’s been training hard. And he’s been able to hit 3.30-4mins comfortably during our pool sessions together. With more consistent trainings, I believe that he can do more than 4.30mins without having LMC or blackouts. I was only surprised that he hit a 94m during his DYNB performance. That’s his PB and I’ve never seen him hit 90m before. So I guess what’s next for Kingston is working his way to joining the 100m club.

This posting is a bit late, but congratulations, Kingston; For winning the best overall male athlete during the mock freediving competition organized by Freediving Adventure Malaysia . It’s well deserved! I’m really happy to see you achieve all these and I’m really proud of you. Your journey does not end here. There is more ahead of you. Keep training, and I’ll be watching your growth and successes with great interest. 😃

Freediver vs Scuba Diver

I left the scuba world to seek adventure in the world of tank-less diving. I used to think that this is just temporary madness. I thought one day, I’ll return to carrying the tank on my back. But truthfully,I never actually went back. My heart and soul are no longer there. But there are moments where I interact with scuba divers. Cheekily and naughtily, that is. Here’s giving a confused scuba diver a high 5 as she was diving with her instructor and buddies. To say that she was shocked to see me suddenly appear in front of her and ask her for a high 5 is an understatement.😂😂😂 📸 Kapitan Dy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is at the core of HOMS’ treatment approach, and its efficacy in aiding stroke and bedridden patients is nothing short of remarkable as per their patient’s testimonials. While I cannot disclose my actual conversation with their patients in respect of their privacy, but I can share with you that most of them could feel the positive effects of the therapy as it accelerated their healing process, reducing inflammation and stimulating tissue regeneration. I was informed that the increased oxygen supply not only boosted their energy levels, but it also enhanced their neurological function, improving overall cognitive and physiological well-being.

HOMS is a facility that goes beyond therapy. They recognizes that healing is not just physical but also emotional and mental. Alongside hyperbaric oxygen therapy, they offer a comprehensive range of rehabilitation services as well as counseling sessions to both patients and caregivers. These holistic services provide an all-encompassing approach to recovery, nurturing not only the body but also the mind and soul.

All rooms over here at HOMS are nothing but spacious and homey.

Bedrooms  are designed to cater to bedridden or patients who are using wheelchairs.

All restrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Patients and caregivers are welcome to use the kitchen area.

My visit to HOMS left nothing but a good, lasting impression. From the moment I walked through their doors, I knew that many lives was about to change for the better. The combination of their state-of-the-art facility, compassionate personnel, and individualized treatment plans has given stroke and bedridden patients a newfound hope and optimism. Hard Rock Hotel To Make A Debut At Genting Highlands In 2027

A historic milestone was achieved today on 14th October 2023 as HR Resort & Residences Sdn Bhd had broken new ground with the signing of an agreement with the globally acclaimed Hard Rock brand, bringing the renowned hotel chain to King’s Park and further transforming Hard Rock Genting Highlands into the largest in Asia.

With the signing of this agreement, HR Hotel & Residences Sdn Bhd and Hard Rock International, a company known for its rock ‘n’ roll heritage, entertainment, and hospitality, have begun a collaboration for the ages. Located in the heart of the 130-million-year-old tropical jungle on the mid-hills of Genting Highlands, HR Hotel & Residences Sdn Bhd aims to introduce a world-class entertainment experience by fusing the tenacious spirit of Hard Rock with the unparalleled beauty of King’s
Park, an integrated entertainment hub and the first Central Business District (CBD) at 1,000 m above the sea level with 365 days of cool weather.

Thanks to this partnership, the blueprint for the legendary Hard Rock Hotel is now set in stone in King’s Park, Genting Highlands to have 1001 of the most luxuriously appointed hotel rooms and suites in Asia.

The new partnership was announced at an event attended by Hard Rock International’s senior vice president and head of global business development, Mr Todd Hricko, King’s Park’s group chief executive officer, Datuk Wira Jayandren Subramanian, and HR Resort & Residences’ chairman, Mr Lim Kim Chai, as well as King’s Park’s executive vice president, Mr Sean Chen.

“This partnership marks a monumental milestone in the world of hospitality,” stated Sean, Executive Vice President of King’s Park. “Our focus is on creating an unforgettable adventure that fuses the best of high-end design with the freewheeling energy of rock ‘n’roll. Here at King’s Park, the soon-to-be-open Hard Rock Genting Highlands in Malaysia will
represent the pinnacle of high-energy fun, luxury, and elegance for solo travelers, groups of friends, and families alike. When this spectacular hotel opens its doors in 2027, we will be sure to take centre stage alongside our wonderful partners at Hard Rock International in stunning the globe, and showing the world that indeed, the spirit of Rock is very, very much alive.”

He continued, “I too am an avid guitar player with a deep love for rock and guitar-based music. Thus, it is with enormous pride and venerable excitement that we’ve constructed a concept for Hard Rock Genting Highlands to make it the largest in Asia. There would be nowhere else that boasts this many Hard Rock branded rooms which would make it stand distinctly apart from its global equivalents. With its exquisite location at an amazing height of 1000 m above sea level, we are confident that this business will be a central pillar amongst the attractions at King’s Park and also a pioneering gem in the renowned Hard Rock tradition.

Sean went on to express confidence that the upcoming Hard Rock Genting Highlands hotel would generate a large number of jobs in fields such as room division, engineering, food and beverage, and other services, thanks to the high profile of the Hard Rock brand. This course will unquestionably spur economic growth and significantly improve the quality of life in Pahang and the surrounding states.

In his address, Todd remarked, “We take enormous delight in the fact that King’s Park will be home to another iconic property for Hard Rock, holding the distinction of the largest in Asia. This strengthens Hard Rock’s position and profile in the area. Here at Hard Rock, our success is predicated on a love of music and is the perfect synthesis of enjoyment and amusement. Our essence lies in developing the exact experiences people seek for, and I wholeheartedly believe that King’s Park, with its abundant options, would irresistibly lure persons to share in joy, savour drinks and culinary delights, and liberally indulge in adventures. We believe King’s Park to be the embodiment of these essential qualities, and we are ecstatic to have established such a pivotal cooperation with HR Resort & Residences.

The Hard Rock Genting Highlands Hotel is planning to open with an amazing 371 opulent hotel rooms and 630 suites, giving guests an exceptionally experiential stay. Guests can enjoy the hotel’s 200 square meter retail space, affectionately referred to as the “Rock Shop,” as well as the heated swimming pool, diverse dining options, Rock Spa, and nightly Rock ‘n’ Roll excitement in the hotel’s stylish lounge and bar. Visitors to this carefully chosen area will be able to purchase one- of a-kind Hard Rock souvenirs, infused with an unmistakable Hard Rock swag, to take home as a memento.

The eminent King’s Park is positioned at a practical 45-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur and is indeed as much a shining beacon of commercial excitement as it is a relaxing haven. As a result of its long and illustrious history, Genting Highlands
has become one of Malaysia’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing in over 41 million people every year and only continuing to grow in popularity.
King’s Park Genting Highlands is a colossal mega development that takes advantage of the booming tourism industry in the region thanks to a successful partnership between Yuk Tung Group and the Association for the Promotion of Higher Education in Malaysia (APHEM). Set to become Genting Highland’s first Central Business District (CBD), it spans a massive 61 hectares of freehold land and has an integrated entertainment hub that seamlessly combines commercial experiences with recreational delights. This massive RM10 billion gross development value project is set up well to take advantage of the improving investment climate in the heart of Genting. A staggering 53 million tourists are expected to visit Genting Highlands by 2026, with a catchment area of nearly 700,000 people within a 5-kilometer radius.

Taking cues from colonial and historical architecture, the King’s Park development displays a state-of-the-art 2,000-meterlong pedestrian boulevard with a 500-meter riverside patio and a total of 360 businesses spread throughout 12 beautifully built blocks. The approximately 18,680 square meters of ‘Truly Asia Cultural Streets’ is an ode to our rich East-Asian heritage and will only add to the splendour of King’s Park. The project also plans to include a halal retail zone and a halal luxury boutique hotel that will welcome Muslim guests from all around the world. This promotes cultural awareness, inclusion and diversity by capitalizing on the expanding demand for halal-friendly vacation spots and eateries. King’s Park will have a large area set aside for eco-sports and mountain biking routes, perfect forthrill and adventureseekers alike. Other attractions such as branded theme parks and the world’s largest terrarium, which spans an astonishing 600 meters, are also within easy walking distance, adding to the charm of King’s Park.

The inauguration of Accor’s famous Swissôtel brand within King’s Park Genting Highlands in 2028 will dovetail around the much-anticipated Hard Rock Genting Highlands, which is scheduled for a grand opening in 2027. There is little doubt that
King’s Park Genting Highlands, as an integrated entertainment hub and Central Business District (CBD), will have plenty of hotel rooms and exciting experiences to accommodate the discerning needs of every traveler, tourist, backpacker, or visitor.

Freediving at Bandar Saujana Putra Lake On Chinese Valentine’s Day

It was the 7th day of the lunar calendar yesterday, also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day. Remember the Chinese mythology story of the star-crossed lovers, Niu Lang and Zhinu (The Shepard Boy and the Weaving Girl), who went on a lovey dovey mode and somehow angered the big boss in heaven and were punished to be separated and were only allowed to see each other once a year on the 7th day of the lunar calendar on a magpie bridge? Yea. Chinese Valentine’s Day is celebrated by the Chinese to commemorate the love of these two poor unfortunate souls.

It was a rainy day…as it would always be on 7th day of the lunar calendar. For a moment I wondered if Niu Lang and Zhinu would be able to meet on the magpie bridge since it was raining.

Ya, I know. I’m a hopeless romantic. The day would have been just another day staring at the screen while trying to clear all the backlogs of work I have if it were not because of these bunch. Yep. It was a last minute freediving trip to Tasik Bandar Saujana Putra. On a weekday. Ditch work, ditch meetings, ditch everything and jump into the lake to dive. Isn’t that cool? Yes guys, I dive tankless now and there’s no going back. 😂

Thank you everyone for making this day an interesting and an adventurous one. You guys are the best!

My dives do not end until everyone is safe at home, and here’s debriefing over lunch with my freediving instructor over what I can improve for my next dives. There’s plenty of things that I still need to work on. I still need to get used to freediving in the dark and get over the consuming shock on my body when thermocline hits, and I still need to work on my CWTB skills, but still, I feel quite accomplished with my progress, cuz I broke my previous PB record again during our lake session. Yea, bebeh…breaking my own records, 1 meter at a time. I can now dive down quite comfortably to 21 meters in one breath. I dive tank-less now, gaisssss. Made me feel so cool!😎 😂😂😂

Current PB
FIM-21.9m
CWTB-19.9m
STA- 2:06mins
DYN-30m

I know I need to start attempting to break my PB for STA and DYN too. The numbers don’t really match nicely with my depth attempts. I haven’t been doing anything about that since I was certified. Lack motivation cuz no safety buddy that I feel comfy with. Plus, I like depth better.😂

Til then, guys. Hoping to share with you more on my freediving adventures soon.

Onshore Mermaid Outing for Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Movie

“I don’t know when
I don’t know how
But I know something’s starting right now
Watch and you’ll see
Some day I’ll be
Part of your world”

Familiar with this song lyrics? I bet most of you are familiar with it. It’s part of the lyrics for the classic Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ movie’s original soundtrack. I grew up watching The Little Mermaid repeatedly. It’s one of the childhood movies that actually cultivates my love and fascination for the ocean. Growing up, my love for the ocean grows more and more. When I became a mother; I even named my son Adrian, after the beautiful Adriatic sea. In some ways, it’s because of this movie that I became a certified scuba diver, a real life mermaid, and hopefully soon, a certified freediver as well. I used to wish I could explore the sea like Ariel, and my wish did come true, to some extent.

But I’m not talking about my sea adventures and misadventures in this post. That will be in my next postings. What I’d like to share with you today is my mermaid school’s excursion to the cinema to watch the new live action version of ‘The Little Mermaid’

The movie outing was jointly organized by Onshore Mermaid and Mermaid Queen Swimming&Scuba Club at GSC Premier Hall in The Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya. Onshore Mermaid and Mermaid Queen Swimming and Scuba Club are both SSI certified mermaid centres and they offers mermaid and ecology courses of all levels to those who are interested in taking up mermaiding seriously.

So, what’s so special about this movie outing? It’s just another movie night out, right? Wrong. It’s a movie night out for us real life merfolks. Yep. We wore our pretty tails while watching Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’.

The media will have you believe that we’re just another group of crazy cosplayers or The Little Mermaid’s fanboys and fangirls who’s insane enough to watch the movies with our legs confined in a mermaid tail, but no, darling. We’re not just another typical ‘The Little Mermaid’s’ cosplaying fan. We’re real life mermaids. We swim and dive in the pools and in the ocean in our monofins and tails. We’re the real deal, darling.

As mermaids and merman, we are ocean ambassadors. Most of us mermaids and mermen works closely with organizations that are doing marine conservation works. Mermaiding is not just something we do to pass time. Some of us are serious volunteers in underwater clean up works while some others work closely with young children to cultivate awareness on how important it is to not pollute our oceans in a fun way.

Yours truly, for example is an ocean ambassador. She does regular underwater clean up and participates in plenty of ghost net removals programs, in line with SSI’s Blue Oceans initiative. SSI Blue Oceans movement supports the conservation and sustainable use of aquatic environments, including oceans, season, coasts, and waterways and their magnificent diversity of plants and animal species.

In organizing the movie night, both SSI mermaid centres hoped not only to offer a night of fun and special bonding moments for their students, but also to spread awareness on how important it is to keep our ocean safe and clean for a better and a more sustainable future.

For more information on the SSI Blue Oceans movement, head over to http://divessi.com or create a free user profile at MySSI app and get immediate access to SSI free trial programs. You may download the MySSI apps HERE.

Together, we can protect our oceans.

Fun with Buddies at Scuba Dobedo Divers’ Grand Re-opening

May is a really busy month for me. I had my SSI Mermaid and also my SSI Dive Guide evaluation training throughout the entire month, and I didn’t have much time for anything else. As of writing, it’s already almost the end of May, and I only got the time to sit down to put thoughts into writing now. There are many updates and experiences that I want to share, but let’s start with this one; fun with my scuba diver buddies at Scuba Dobedo Divers’ shop grand re-opening.

It happened back on the 4th of May. And any Star Wars fans would say that it was an auspicious date- cuz it resonates with the Star Wars quote; May the force be with you( May the fourth be with you). Get it? Yes? No? Well, it’s ok. I’ll stop babbling and here’s sharing with you the fun stuff we did at the new Scuba Dobedo Divers’new shop.

Plenty of fun and educational activities were prepared for us divers.

There was an abundance of good food and plenty of fun. We participated in games and I personally learned lotsa new stuff during the event.

Participated in the Akuana race where we learned how to assemble a backplate BCD from scratch as well.

My team may have lost, but we still won back some knowledge and oh…a t-shirt in the process.

Stayed til late for their movie night and had plenty of ‘uncensored’ fun…but let’s just leave the uncensored part for later.

This is one of the crazy things we did that night. There’s many more pictures from where this comes from, but those other pics and videos are blackmail material 🙈🙈🙈🙈😂😂😂😂

The new shop is conveniently located in Akasa Cheras Commercial Centre. It’s an upgrade to the new expansion that they’re having as a PADI 5 stars IDC centre. Scuba Dobedo Divers is now currently a one-stop centre for scuba diving, freediving, swimming and also mermaid courses. So, if you’re interested in any of these, do give them a holler.

For more information on the new Scuba Dobedo Divers shop, check their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/scuba.dobedo.divers
