I’ve been Cikumuffin-ed

Those who knows me very well will know that I like to eat, but not exactly a fan of sweet and sugary stuff. I always prefer savoury stuff over sweet things to munch on. But every now and then, I will make an exception.

A couple of days ago, I received some goodies from Cikumuffin via Smallkucing and Mommyling. LOL. Both of them won the giveaway from Cikumuffin too, so I told Cikumuffin to just send it to Mommyling and I will pick it up whenever I meet either of them for dinner and whatnot.

So, to cut the long story short, I went and picked up the goodies from Smallkucing. The package consists of 4 pieces of Lemon Muffin in a white box and a container of Double Chocolate Chips cookies.

Lemon Muffins topped with exquisite lemony cream and pearly sugar.

Double Chocolate chip cookies by Cikumuffin.

Initially, I thought of just wanting to give all the muffin to Smallkucing to enjoy. You see, I’m not exactly in the mood of going out these days…I’ve been under the weather and whatnot, but Mamarazzi insists that she can’t finish it and I must have a bite of it cuz it tastes so heavenly. (truthfully, it’s hard to say no to Mamarazzi. Wakakaka… she always lure me with so much food so that I’ll come out from my vampire lair and I never failed to take a bite of her bait :P)

I was skeptical at first when I saw the pictures in Mommyling’s blog. Well, to be fair, I’m always skeptical when it comes to sweet stuff, and I thought the cookies and muffins are going to be just another one of those sweet things that I wouldn’t be able to push down my throat more than once. Most muffins are unbearably sweet, you know. (I wish I love to eat sweet stuff, though, cuz my sugar levels in my blood are always low, and doctors always advice me to take more sugary stuff)

But boy, was I wrong. Both Mamarazzi and Mommyling was right. Muffins made by Cikumuffin was really something to die for.

First of all, I was really impressed with the packaging. The muffins came in a lovely, semi-transparent box that I usually see in Malay weddings ‘hantaran’ ‘Hantaran’ is some sort of wedding gifts from bride to groom and vice versa. If I didn’t know it better, I could have sworn that these muffins are meant to be some sort of bridal gifts.

The taste of the muffins was really exquisite. It was not sweet as I initially thought it will be. Loved the fact that the cream that’s topping the muffin is not sweet, but sourish instead. It tasted like a hint of freshly squeezed lemon and bits of expensive cream cheese. The muffin itself was not dry like those you get from commercial bakeries too. It glided down my throat easily, and I could have sworn that the muffin was injected with some sourish lemon marmalade. (I could be wrong, though).

Overall, Cikumuffin’s Lemon muffins are addictive in some ways. I find it easy to get addicted to those lemony muffins. You’d want to have another one once you tasted one of these irresistible muffins. Needless to say, these muffins goes well with my cuppa tea. I daresay it’ll make a perfect dish during high tea or a tea party. It would be good for Chinese weddings too-where guests are usually unable to enjoy sweetly flavoured wedding cakes that has been prepared because they’re too stuffed from the nine course meal and whatnot.

I can’t really say much about the Double Chocolate Chip cookies, though. My husband and I only had one piece of the cookies each while the rest went into my son’s tummy. 🙁 My bad for leaving the cookies unattended. LOL! Can’t really give a fair and detailed review for these cookies, (cuz I only had one piece) except that Cikumuffin have been extremely generous with the chocolate chips, and it’s worth buying if you’re a fan of chocolaty products.

I was really impressed with the taste as well as the packaging and the branding. If you’d like to give it a try youself, do hop over to Cikumuffin’s Facebook Page for more infos on how you can order it.

Cleffairy: This is not a paid review, mind you. I’d criticize if the food does not taste good, freebies or no freebies. LOL. Pictures are courtesy of Smallkucing and Mamarazzi. You see, my photography skills don’t exactly give justice to anyone’s food. LOL.

Free Coway Spa Water Softener Trial

I have very sensitive skin and every now and then, my skin would itch and I’d get rashes. It’s extremely uncomfortable, and more often than not, I’d ended up scratching my skin til it breaks and hurt.

Apart from the fact that it made me feel extremely uncomfortable, it lowers my self confidence too as I have the urge to scratch my skin in public places. It’s really embarrassing when you need to ease your itch in public by scratching, trust me. It’s definitely not attractive and many would be appalled by your behavior.

And so, I consulted a dermatologist not long ago, and I was told that it happened because the water that I used to bathe was probably ‘hard water’ or ‘unclean water’, and therefore, causing my skin to get irritated all over, especially after showering. The dermatologist in question suggested that I have a water softener or a water filter installed in my bathroom so that the water that I use to bathe would not have such effect on my skin.

I did not know what water softener is, but I was told that water softeners functioned to soften the water that we use for showering. You see, tap water is considered as hard water cuz it contains chlorine and various chemical element in it that is harmful for the body.

Did you know that using normal tap water to bathe or shower can cause you various skin problems? Well, I didn’t, so imagine my horror when I was told that using tap water to bathe could not only cause various skin disease, but could accelerate hair loss and skin aging because the chlorine in tap water destroys vitamins in our skin.

I’m afraid I’m quite a vain pot. I do not wish to age before time and I do not wish to have itchy skin most of the time, and so, I decided to go for a water softener hunting.

There are various brands of water softeners in the market, but there’s one particular , trustworthy brand from Korea that I got my eyes on. The brand is known as Coway.  Coway is a leading brand in home-wellness appliances, and they have this water softener that I need. It’s known as Coway Spa Water Softener.

Coway Spa Water Softener functions to transform tap water in our homes to soft water. Consequently, the water that comes out through the water softener is a much healthier option for our bodies.

The water softener removes contaminant particles to ensure our skin absorbs only clean water with several layers of protection.

  • Composite filters for smoother skin i.e. remove harmful substances such as chlorine and floating substances in tap water to minimize irritation to skin.
  • Cation ion exchange resin for removal of substances causing water hardness.

Coway Spa Water Softener has outstanding water softening efficiency. It is increased greatly thanks to product design that utilizes ion exchange resin by using the scatter board installed inside the tank.

Initially, I have doubts about this water softener, but I was assured that the benefits of Coway Spa Water Softener has been proved by a 4 month test done by Woongjin Coway Cosmetics R&D Center, SMCTC (A clinical test organization) & KATRI (Korea Apparel Testing & Research Institute).

Anyway, I decided to try it out and had it installed in my bathroom. You see, Coway is having this special promo, and I can’t help myself. They are giving the public the opportunity to try out the Spa Water Softener (1,000 units) for FREE in the comfort of their homes with Coway’s exclusive 14 day trial period. It is absolutely free  has no hidden charge. You are also not obligated to buy their product if you think that the product is unsatisfactory or you think that you do not need it after all. Interested? Check it out at their website here: www.coway.com.my. Alternatively, you can call their tol free number: 1800-888-111 for further information and assistance.

I’ve been using it for a week now. The unit is easy to use. It’s now connected to my hot water shower unit to soften the water and can easily maintained. Frankly speaking, I’m rather tempted to keep the water softener unit. I’ve seen positive effect on my skin after using it. My usually dry skin stays moisturized much longer and my dandruffs has been reduced. My skin feels softer and no longer itch each time after I come out from the shower too, so I guess the water softener unit really does do wonder.

*SIGH* To keep or not to keep the unit, that is the question. I’m still considering it as for rental unit, Coway customers needs to pay RM70 monthly rental and entitled free product maintenance every 2 months up to 5 years while a one off purchase is RM1,900 with free 1 year maintenance (for every 2 months).

*TSK* I can’t decide. Let me use it for a couple more days before I decide to rent it or to return the unit.

Vision Correction Continues To Evolve

I don’t need a professional like Glenn Hagele to tell me that the option to vision correction is continuing to evolve. My recent visit to my optometrist has pretty much enlightened me on the options that I may have if I want to get my shortsightedness corrected. You see, I’ve been wanting to get rid of my spectacles…I used to think that it makes me looks respectable and intelligent. I used to think that it will hide the beauty of my youth and made me look unworldly and humble.

But what’s the use of looking intelligent, humble, unworldly and respectable when people treat you like an idiot and does not spare an ounce of respect for you even when you treat them well? And what is the use of being mild mannered when all you get in return is people trampling you mercilessly and using you like a string puppet and expect you not to know it?

Cleffairy: Perhaps, it is time for me to show the world that I had enough of people’s nonsense and I ought to walk with my head held high! Perhaps, a good way to start is change my appearance. Maybe I want to look like Ashwarya Rai. She have beautiful eyes, don’t you think?

Gnomeo and Juliet

I enjoy reading Shakespeare’s work. And I enjoy watching the movie adaptations of Shakespeare’s work even more. My all time favourite got to be the ‘Midsummer’s Night Dream’. I liked it very much because it was a comedy, not a tragedy.

Shakespeare’s tragedy like ‘Romeo and Juliet’ never failed to distress me and therefore, I avoid watching the movie adaptations of Shakespeare’s tragedy. Yes,  you’re reading it right. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is classified as a tragedy, even though many would have you believe that it’s one of the greatest love story ever told.

The ending of Shakespeare’s tragedy does not give me much satisfaction as I’m more into happy ending, and so, I was rather skeptical when I first saw this movie, ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’. As the title suggested, it’s an adaptation of Shakepeare’s tragedy, ‘Romeo and Juliet’. I thought I wouldn’t enjoy watching it, but boy was I wrong.

I never felt more glad to be proven wrong until I watched ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’. ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ is one hell of a love story laced with not only comedy, but  packed with moral values in it.

Like the original ‘Romeo and Juliet’ written by William Shakespeare, Gnomeo and Juliet belongs to a feuding family. They crossed path and fell in love with each other despite of their family background. What’s special about Gnomeo and Juliet is that it’s set in the world of warring indoor and outdoor gnomes.

The story is really refreshing, captivating and engaging. The Juliet in Gnomeo and Juliet is not exactly portrayed as a forlorn, lovesick maiden, but a strong, spunky character who have minds of her own. She’s the Juliet you have never seen before.

In my humble opinion, this is the best rendition of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ ever. It’s not only funny, but witty as well. There’s something for everyone in Gnomeo and Juliet, and I highly recommend it for both adult and children alike.

Gnomeo and Juliet DVD is now available for pre-order. If you’re interested in watching it at the comfort of your own home over and over again with the little ones, you can go ahead and order it now. I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Satelite TV versus Free TV

I wonder how many of you out there are paid TV or satellite TV subscribers? I’m not a couch potato. I’m more to a workaholic who would prefer to sit in front of the PC working on my novels and whatnot instead of watching TV.

Apart from that, I’m also a little bit of a control freak. I like to be in control. The idiot box does not give me much control over things because I cannot control what’s being aired and I also cannot control those annoying advertisements.

Yes, I don’t fancy watching TV, especially the free TV whose funded by the local government. There’s simply too much ads, too much propaganda by the local government during election season, infested with re-runs of the old shows or movies and too much censorship on romantic dramas.

The free TV have terrible quality control, I must say, and it’s quite a nightmare for me to sit in front of the TV and tune into those free channels. They’re liable to give me hypertension.

I may not like watching TV and can definitely do without tuning in for a couple of months consecutively, but then again, every now and then, I do like the idea of sitting back on the old couch and indulge myself in a movie session or two over a bowl of buttered popcorns.

The only way for me to enjoy watching the idiot box is to subscribe to paid TV. Paid TV or  satellite TV is completely a different species from the free TV. It’s free from the local government’s propaganda campaigns, proper rating system for adults and children alike, minimal advertisements and most importantly, free of repeated old movies/shows re-runs.

Paid TV, to me, is a pure bliss. It’s something I can really call a home entertainment. It’s something I can enjoy without feeling annoyed.

Unfortunately, unlike my American counterparts, the customer service of paid TV in my country is terrible. I’ve heard of horror stories from paid TV users in my country, and frankly speaking, their testimonials does not exactly tempt me to subscribe their service.

My American counterpart is so lucky to have DISH Network. DISH Network is not only offering over 200 Satellite HD TV Channels packages, but they’re also customer oriented too. They aim to please and satisfaction is guaranteed. If you’re a Twitterer, you can follow them at Infinity DISH Twitter for current promotions and latest status updates.

Not a Twitterer but a Facebooker? Well then, fret not. They are on Facebook too. If you’re interested in subscribing to any of their services and want to know more about them, you can also ‘LIKE’ their DISH TV Facebook fanpage.

You can never go wrong when you communicate with your service provider via all these social networking sites. The response is much more visual and satisfying than calling up the hotline. It’s not only cost and time effective, but as you also get to see their latest promotion as soon as they’re ready to market it too.

Best part of all? You not only get satisfactory response from your service provider, but you can also make friends with other subscribers and exchange your views on movies and whatnot. Beat that. It’s like killing two birds with one stone.

Kitchen Sink

Remember my previous post a couple of months ago where I complained about my kitchen where it was flooded because of the pipe and sink leakage? Well, after countless of complaints, I finally got the landlord’s approval to get it fixed and he was considering to change the old rotten copper sink to something better.

I’m no expert in this area, but I’m certainly glad that the landlord finally agree to change the old Copper Sink.

Now, I wonder what sort of Copper Sinks will be in his consideration? Whatever it is, I really do hope that he’ll make his decision fast, cuz I’m sick of not being able to use the kitchen comfortably and eating out all the time.

Doctor Reviews and Yelp

Would you select your Lasik doctor on the advice of a stranger? Technology has allowed Internet business review listings like Yelp and Google Review to become more prevalent, but should patients be using the same tools to select a surgeon as they use to select a restaurant? This may not be the most appropriate referral source.
If you look at the Yelp for Stahl Eye Center in New York, two patients speak in glowing terms about their Lasik, but one complains that the wait was too long and wanted more information about each of the tests that were performed to evaluate him for Lasik. Was the third patient impatient? Is this someone who is easily dissatisfied, or was this a legitimate breakdown of the doctor/patient relationship. And are any of the reviews real?
A concern with unmanaged reviews is the ability to “game the system” by having friends and family create bogus positive reviews…and competitors to create bogus negative reviews. Perhaps misdirection about a restaurant is not such a big deal, but misdirection about a doctor can be a serious problem.
While Internet review services may be ideal for some services and products, a more comprehensive approach is needed for physicians. Patient satisfaction for doctors at the Stahl Eye Center has certified by the nonprofit USAEyes.org. Would a delayed appointment make a difference in that certification? Should you care?

Fun site for lil one

I couldn’t help myself after watching the video about ‘Connected Tot’ that I shared with you folks out here not long ago, and so I decided to look up more on products that contains Gangliosides that can help us nurture a connected tot who not only learn fast, but also able to think creatively out of the box and apply whatever he or she learn in daily lives.

Apparently, Anmum Products like Anmum Materna, Anmum Lacta and Anmum Essential are not only fortified with all the vitamins and minerals needed for children’s growth, but it also contain Ganglioside that encourages brain cells connection for faster learning.

Anyway as I was browsing around for more information on that, I stumbled upon  ‘Connected Tot’ website. I was very surprised. They have various games and activity that you can play together with your child. Just look at the screenshot below. The site is very attractive and cute. I’m sure you and your kids will love it.

I  shared the site with Smallkucing on my recent visit to his house for some playdate session.

You see, Smallkucing starts very early on the computer. He’s such a connected child. He’s been PC savvy ever since he was merely 1 year old. Genius, isn’t it?

When I showed him the  ‘Connected Tot’ website he was thrilled. He simply love the game that he dubbed the ‘Old McDonald Had a Farm’ game. He dubs it so because there’s so much animals in it. He got so excited that he even sang the nursery rhyme as he played the ‘animal game’.

The game is actually known as “The Animal Talk” game. There are various animals inside the game. And the children are required to click on the animal by using the mouse to match the sound in the background. It is a game that encourages brain cells connection as well as helps to improve the motor skill. (hand-eye coordination).

The “Animal Talk” Game.

The background goes ‘Woof, woof’. And if the right animal is clicked on, the game will proceed to the next animal. 😀

Smallkucing and I played a couple round of this game…the boy is so smart! He got it right all the time! By the time we go to the ‘duck’ level in the game… he keep says “Auntie, duck goes quack quack.” and so I said “You’re so smart.” and you know what he says? He said ” Duck also very nice to eat. Auntie, buy me roast duck!” *FAINT*. OMG… now I got to buy him a roast duck after playing the game with him! Tsk tsk tsk. Get bullied again!

Apart from the “Animal Talk” game, there’s also the dress me up game. I played the game with my son. And he loves it.

Now, you might be fooled into thinking that dressing up is a girl’s game. But you’re wrong. It’s for both boys and girls.

My son knows he’s a boy, so he click on the boy avatar in the game, and proceeds to play dress up.

And after a few drag and drop in the game…. the end product is this:

Opppsss, no clothes? LOL. When I asked the boy why there’s no clothes, he said the weather is too hot for clothes. *FAINT*

Anyway, apart from brain stimulating games, there’s also a couple of children illustrated ebooks that you can read along with your child on that website. There’s a couple of interesting ebook you can choose from. But my personal favourite is the one with the rainbow. 😀

Cute illustrated ebook with great storyline.

When I was fooling around in that site, I also discovered that Anmum is also giving away products sample upon request HERE. If you’re not already an Anmum user, you might want to check out the interactive site and request some samples for you to try out. I’m sure that both you and your children will have fun visiting the website above.

Cleffairy: To visit ‘Connected Tot’ website, you need to have your flash and cookies enabled. If you don’t have flash installed in your PC, you can’t play the games and whatnot in the website. It’s best viewed in IE6 above and Firefox.
