A Summer Secret by Kathleen Fuller

The Mysteries of Middlefield Series: Book 1
Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2010
ISBN: 976-1-4003-1593-2
Young Adult
268 pages

As I mentioned in my previous blog entry,Thomas Nelson Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book as part of their BookSneeze.com bloggers book review program. I was not required to write a positive review, and therefore, the review is 100% my honest opinion.

I quickly flipped the book to read it, and finished it within 2 hours. This is what the book is all about:

A Summer Secret was written about a young girl named Mary Beth who has a twin bother and five younger brothers. As most older sisters, she has her fair share of responsibilities, chores and babysitting.

It seems like a huge burden to carry but with finances a problem, everyone in Mary Beth’s family do their fair share of work. Mary Beth gets tired of the boys being disgusting and obnoxious, making messes, invading her private space and their constant irresponsibility.

Tired of all the nonsense, Mary Beth seeks to find a place of her own. A place for privacy where she can record in her journal and have some serenity. She decides to find a refuge in an old abandoned barn in a neighbouring field which her parents have declared off limits. But then again, she desperately needs a place to call her own. It will be her secret.

There is only one problem. She is not the only person who is claiming the barn as their own. Her secret has been discovered and now she may be in grave danger.

From a reader and an author’s point of view, I think the storyline does not progress fast enough for the reader to get excited with the book. I nearly put the book down after a few chapters, and the so-called mystery in the book, is not quite a mystery after all. It’s rather predictable for me, and I wouldn’t really suggest the book to young readers. It will make the targeted audience scream with dissatisfaction, as the book is rather preachy and too wordy. The characters are not quite dynamic, and it’s quite a bore.

I would definitely not recommend this book to young readers, but I think some parents would prefer their young teens to read this book as they’re trying to lock up their children from facing the harsh reality and the things that goes on in the outside world. This book makes me think of Rapunzel all locked up in the tower by the evil godmother. This book, somewhat justify the godmother’s action.

I would rate this book 2 out of 5.

Cleffairy: I don’t think it is right for parents to restrict their children’s privacy and lock their mind in the tower like Rapunzel. The children would rebel, that’s for sure.

C2 – Refreshingly 100% Natural Green Tea

This is not a paid post or paid review. I was not compensated with money for writing this review. It’s just an honest review written by me for C2 – Cool & Clean Green Tea and URC Snack Foods (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

I’m a hardcore tea lover. I take teas and not coffee. Even my blog name, Over A Cuppa Tea suggest that I’m a tea drinker, and it is true in many ways. I enjoy teas, all sort of tea except for Chinese tea. (They’re just so bitter) And I often take tea when I’m writing my novels, articles for magazines or even while I’m blogging. Only God knows how much those tea companies had earned from me.

And so, when I was offered this review by a very generous lady, I was practically jumping for joy. Free tea! πŸ˜€ Finally some tea company is giving me some teas for free.

Did you see how much they gave me? It’s a lot, right? But frankly speaking, it won’t last long. I can assure you it’ll be gone within a month. It’ll all go inside me and my family’s tummy, and it’ll go POOF, no doubt.

The C2 Company sent me 3 refreshing flavours. I’ve drank all three of them, and I love them to bits. Now, let me tell you how each of them taste like. Since I loved tea so much and they send me loads of teas for me to review, I think it’s only fair that I give these drinks my honest review.

C2- Green Tea, Lemon Flavour. I love this one. It’s so refreshing and it would be my first choice if I’m feeling hot and sweaty. Don’t be fooled by the word Green Tea. These teas does not taste like green teas, but taste like fruit juice instead. The lemon flavour tea taste a little bit sourish, and it goes well with people who likes sour drinks. this one tasted more like a lemonade than green tea. Best taken with oily food like fritters or fried chicken. It wash away the oily feelings the food gives you.

C2 Green Tea, Forest Fruits Flavour. This one is my personal favourite. πŸ˜€ Forest Fruits Flavour. It’s sweet and yet have a hint of the sour lemon in it. A well mixture of sweet and sour. The sweetness from the forest berries and the sour from lemon. And like a good wine, it goes extremely well with meat and poultry dish.I would recommend this if you’re to take lamb chops or a medium rare steak.

And last but not least,

C2 Green Tea, Apple Flavour. This one taste like apple juice, and one could easily mistake this for a pure concentrated apple juice instead of flavoured green tea. This one make a good replacement for your usual breakfast juice or coffee.

Basically, in my humble opinion, C2 teas are designed for 3 meals. πŸ˜€ It’s suitable to be served during breakfast, teatime as well as supper.

The tea is made from 100% Natural Green Tea. Yes, you’re reading it right, folks, it’s freshly brewed, and definitely not from powder and concentrates of green tea.

The Green Tea are brewed and packaged fresh on the same day, therefore retaining most of the green tea goodness and benefits which is normally lost in other extraction processes.

Among all tea, C2 teas has the least caffeine and the highest amount of health benefits.

Allow me to elaborate on the benefits:

C2 Green Tea contains Catechins. Catechins is a natural powerful antioxidant found in green tea. It is also found in chocolate (cocoa), fruits, vegetables, wine and in many other plant species but it is most abundant in Green Tea.

It acts as a powerful anti-oxidant and can reduce the risk of four of the major health problems: stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabetes. It also helps rheumatoid arthritis,  reduce cholesterol,  prevent infection and many more. And like most green teas, it can detox toxin from our bodies very well.

The C2 teas are a healthier alternative to carbonated soft drink.

There’s also no preservatives added. Cool, right?

And as I mentioned earlier in the article, the drinks comes in 3 refreshing flavours, Apple, Lemon and Forest Fruit. LOL… yeah, they gave me all flavours that’s available in Malaysia. So yeah, I was very ecstatic about it. But I hope, in the near future, they would make peach flavoured available in Malaysia. I would love to review that one. πŸ˜€

The C2 drinks are very convenient, as it comes in a 350ml resealable PET bottle that you can sip & seal and drink on the go.

And Muslim consumers do not have to worry too, as it’s a Halal certified product.

C2 is now available in:

1. 7-11

2. Mydin

3. Giant

4. Jusco

5. Other shops near you.

C2 Cool&Clean Flavoured Teas are best served chilled. While the drink is suitable for most people, it is not suitable for diabetics as it contains sugar. For those who have diabetes, please consult your doctors before taking this tea.

Get your free books with Booksneeze

This is not a paid post, but rather something that I’d like to share with you bookworms out there.

If you are a blogger and enjoy reviewing books, you might want to check out this website known as Booksneeze. They will send you free books in exchange of honest review on your blog.

Yes, no catch. Sign up for their reviewer program, request for a book, write a review when the book arrived, and you get to keep the book. Sounds fair? It sounded fair to me. Besides, I get to request more books after each review is done.  I’m not talking about just one time deal over here.

For what it’s worth, I’m quite a hardcore bookworm who practically read for myself to sleep and I buy books more often than I buy my clothes, so getting free books in exchange of an honest review sounds really good to me.

How about you guys? Are you an avid reader? I read an average of 2-3 books/full length novels per week and my personal library is. How many books do you read per week?

Cleffairy: If you’re a blogger and yet not quite a bookworm or a Scrooge, I think Booksneeze is a good place to start a good reading habit.

Sofa bed…

Scheduled entry

This is a paid review written by me on the behalf of Furniture Depot.com. All opinion are 100% mine, though.

Usually, I would have rejected paid posts that asked me to review furniture and whatnot cuz it’s not really related to my blog, but then again, I kinda fall in love with the items they featured, so, I thought, why not just review their stuff?

One of their items in particular, sofa bed caught my interest. I’m quite a couch potato, you see. So convertible sofa beds is really appealing to me. I can online and do my work while lazing on it, or even read til I fall asleep on it. I wonder if my husband would buy it for me for our upcoming anniversary in May? (I must be dreaming!)

I like this one in particular:

Doesn’t it look extremely comfortable and classy? It comes with seating cushion slightly raised on each end, beautiful black faux leather upholstery accented with chrome metal legs for durability and easy to operate mechanism which allows effortless conversion from sofa into a spacious bed. This one really caught my attention, and I can just imagine myself on it, relaxing and unwinding on it.

I bet this classy babe is not only suitable for love nests, but can be a welcome addition to bachelor pads as well. Don’t you agree? Anyway, I wonder how many of you out there owns a sofa bed. So far, I don’t have any yet. Care to share your experience using a sofa bed with me?

Anyway, dear readers, if you happen to visit the e-store, kindly check out their sectional sofa too. I believe you might just fall in love with their classy items over there.
