I’ve been in love with you…

“I’ve been in love with you all of my life. Couldn’t even change it if I wanted to.”


Those were the words, that made my heart melt and my soul sing. Those were the words, beautifully written in The Time Traveler’s Wife, and made me curl all night long on the bed, beneath the blanket, savouring the good book, in ebook version.

The Time Traveler’s Wife, written by Audrey Niffenegger  is a lyrical love story between Henry and Clare, albeit an unusual one suffused with vivid images of the past and the future.

It’s a little bit confusing for me in the beginning, but it’s really a good book, and once I got a grip on the story, I barely take my eyes off from it. The feeling it gave me is absolutely different from Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper. While My Sister’s Keeper made me fast-forward a few pages and skip some part, the Time Traveller’s wife doesn’t have such effect with me.

Henry has a rare genetic condition, something that’s fictionally known as Chronus Displacement Disorder. He time-travels within his own lifetime, into his own past and future, yet dwells in the present. Clare has been in love with Henry all of her life…a feeling that has been developed as a result of his time traveling.

Henry and Clare develop a bond that transcends time and logic, bound to memory and promise. Since Henry’s traveling is involuntary, they learn to deal with life’s ambiguity in a deeper sense than most couples. Within this strange constraint, Clare’s affection assumes a mystical tone and she accepts their situation unconditionally, year after year committing her heart into Henry’s keeping.

The Time Traveler’s Wife… a beautiful story of love that transcends time and dimension. Henry and Clare’s lifelong love affair does not come without a cost, for nothing worth having is easily won.

The powerful emotional ending of this novel contains its share of shattering revelations, brutal slashes of real life and its consequences. Niffenegger compassionately develops her unique characters with the grace to accept their difficult circumstances as well as their blessings.

Don’t be deceived by the easy charm of Henry and Clare’s relationship; they will draw you into their small circle, make you complicit with their dreams and disappointments.

They will break your heart. They broke and shattered mine, and they made me treasure and cherish what I have now. Love…is a keepsake. Love is for keep. Love should be unconditional and the present, is truly a gift.. That is what I learned from The Time Traveler’s Wife.

This is one book, that I would not miss for the world. A devastatingly well written science fiction romance.

My Sister’s Keeper

I’ve been curling up with a few good books as of late. Smallkucing and Manglish recommended this book, entitled My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

More or less, I knew the story of the said book. Bookworms everywhere have been talking about it, and they gave thumbs up for the story spun by the author.

It’s a sob story, and I didn’t bother reading it when it was a hot item and the in thing cuz I knew I would be a sobby mess after reading it, but I’m afraid, I finally gave it after reading it’s review by Manglish.

All right, My Sister’s Keeper  novel written by Jodi Picoult. It tells the story of 13-year-old Anna, who sues her parents for medical emancipation when she is expected to donate a kidney to her sister Kate, who is dying from leukemia.

Anna was conceived through in vitro fertilization to be a donor who could save Kate’s life. So practically, she was engineered to be Kate’s spare parts by her parents.

When she was born, her parents initially use Anna’s umbilical cord blood to treat Kate, and continue to use Anna as a donor for other bodily substances as Kate cycles through remission and relapse over the years.

Anna is usually willing to donate whatever Kate needs – blood, bone marrow – but a kidney transplant would be a major surgery for not only Kate, but Anna as well.

As much as Anna loves her sister, she began to think that it is time for her parents to stop harvesting organs from her for her sister’s sake. Anna then make a petitions for medical emancipation so that she will be able to make her own decision concerning donating a kidney to Kate, who is experiencing renal failure.

Sara, her mother, is an ex-lawyer and decides to represent herself and her husband in the lawsuit. She selfishly attempts to convince Anna to drop the suit and insist that Anna give up her kidney for her sister’s sake, but Anna refuses to do so.

This book promises surprises and unexpected turns. Quite a good read if you have the time to really sit and enjoy it. While many people would give a rating of 10/10 for the book, I’m afraid, I would only give a 4 out of it.

Why? Well, it’s simply it is not good enough for me, and from an author’s point of view, I feel that though this book have a great storyline and plot, the book tend to confuse the reader with too many point of view. When I started to read the book, I was annoyed that the author kept changing point of views, and I would have to say, her creative attempts annoyed me more than touched me. Each characters in the story took turns to describe events and etc.

I sort of get a headache while reading this book and I found it hard for me stay focus on the issues that the author tries to bring out in the open. It would have been a really good read to me if it’s only told in one point of view. I felt that the emotional part could have been expressed better if the author concentrate it on only one point of view instead of giving the limelight to every single characters in her story.

Anyway, the Hollywood made a movie out of this. If you’re not into books, you might want to have a look at the movie. Watch the trailer below.

Letters to Juliet

Cleffairy needs a little bit of a breather, and so, nothing serious from me today, folks. But instead, I want to share a movie trailer with all of you. I’ve watched this trailer more than 10 times, and definitely anticipating this summer romance movie, starring Amanda Seyfield. Yes, she’s the same actress who played Sophie in Mama Mia.

Letters to Juliet will be in Cinema in May 2010. So don’t go around looking for the movie just yet.

Letters to Juliet is about a young American, Sophie who travels to Verona, Italy – the city of love and home of star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet. There, she meets a group of volunteers who responds to letters written to Juliet seeking advice about love. After answering one lost, 50-year-old letter, she inspires its author to travel to Italy and embark on a journey to search for her long-lost love.

This sets off a chain of events that brings a love into both their lives unlike anything they ever imagined, and gives Sophie the courage to discover herself and follow her heart.

I was really impressed with the trailer, though I felt that they revealed too much in the trailer and the trailer itself tells the entire story. However,being a hopeless romantic with a mush for brain, I anticipate this movie nevertheless. Have a look at the trailer while I goes *poof* and starts writing on my script again for Script Frenzy 2010.


Cleffairy: Some movies will inspire you, while a great others will bore you. This one definitely inspire me. It tells me to appreciate what I have around me and live life to the fullest. It also taught me how important it is to do what your heart tells you to do.

As of late, smallkucing and Manglish have been taunting me to the max. One keep tempting me to go to Book Access and get some books for myself to read while another keep tempting me to indulge myself with some ‘ficathon’.

I didn’t go to Book Access to get some books for myself of course, as I’ve been rather busy lately. Even taking a breather seems to be a luxury these days, especially when I am in a frenzy as well.

However, I did manage to find time to go into some ficathon, despite of struggling to write scripts for Script Frenzy so I guess, Manglish’s little campaign is accomplished, after all. 😀 He managed to get me reading some Chic Lit by Cecelia Ahern.

Sounds familiar? Cecelia Ahern is the author of P.S I Love you and many more worth reading books. Most of her books are touching, and she’s one author that I’d love to hate. Her books are very touching, and never fails to make people cry and appreciate life.

Dancing on the table…

Most of you should probably know by now that I’m rather known for my fiery and serious articles. My big bro Calvin used to tell people that sometimes, my writing left people stunned and reading my words sometimes made people feeel as if they were slapped on both of sides of their cheeks.

Claire thought I was well into my 30s or maybe 40s while Smallkucing sheepishly told me that she thought that I was a plump lady who was also well into her 30s. Thank God a certain Submerryn thought that I am somewhat a personification of a horny fairy. That was actually a compliment, considering that she actually thought that I’m a passionate and romantic woman.

Chrisau on the other hand, thought I was an Indian lady who’s way older than him while a good handful of others thought that I am a man, all just because I slammed women at times.

I wasn’t offended. No worries. It’s amusing. It’s all because of my writing, isn’t it? LOL…most would agree that I sounded very opinionated in my writings, and I hardly show the fun side of me.

Perhaps, most of you are not privileged enough to know that Cleffairy does have a wild and fun side. If you were to tell my school or friends that I am a serious, no-nonsense person, they would probably laughed their head off at your statement, because in truth, I was never a serious person when I was in school. Tell them that I’m a fiery person, they would probably stare at you in disbelief. I was all smile and no frown back then. It is just too bad that along the way, I had to grow up… perhaps a little bit before time as life is nothing but a bitch to me as soon as I left school. I was introduced to many nasty and ugly way of life, and I had to be nasty to survive.

I did many crazy things when I was in school, especially when I was in my honeymoon year. You know, Form 4. Form 4 was literally honeymoon year. It was fun, and I looked forward to go to school every day back then. I did many unthinkable things. Apart from playing football with my ‘boyfriends’ and swimming in the sea in the evening after school, I did many crazy things in the classrooms as well. The classrooms were not spared from witnessing my youthful antics.

I’m not quite sure if you people know what is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but to cut the long story short, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a famous Bollywood movie that sent many of us Malaysian youngsters into Bollywood fever. It hit everywhere back then, including the shore of my school.

One of the unthinkable thing that I did was danced to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on the table during recess time just because a friend challenged me to it. Yes… I did… I did danced on the table during recess time, and the best part was, a bunch of other rascals joined me and we danced while singing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on the top of our lungs. Within minutes, the classroom was turned into a mushy Bollywood scene.

Trust me… it was kinda fun attempting to dance like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol back then. And it is rather amazing that though none of us were Indian whose mother’s tongue was Hindi, we did sang the bloody song with a horrifying accuracy. I bet Shah Rukh Khan would have beamed with approval if he saw our antics. It was indeed a miracle that the table survived us.

I can scarcely believe that I actually did dance on the table with a bunch of boys who happened to be my best friends, and I escaped the wrath of my short, bald headmaster alive. Yea! Alive… unscathed at that as well. LOL…we were not punished for our antics. Incredible, isn’t it? There was no casualties, instead, we get to bring the sweet memories home with us, and it’s ours to keep.

My teachers, as well as the headmaster, were rather sporting. Some passed by the classroom and did nothing. Instead, they just laughed at our antics and waited for us to sing and dance til the song ended and told us that recess would be over soon, and we ought to come down from the table.

Recalling those times, I wonder… how many teachers these days would let the students have their own classroom fun? I think…the possibility is zero. I’ve always felt that school teachers these days are rather rigid and too exam oriented that they forgot that school is supposed to be fun, and full of youthful exuberance. Headmasters and headmistress…on the other hands, would be worried sick for their students and overall school performance.

It is sad, isn’t it? Brats these days don’t get the crazy fun the brats in my time did. It is just sad that school is no longer place to learn and to grow up. Instead, it became a place where you sit and stare at the blackboard while trying hard to memorize whatever the teacher told you to memorize.

Anyway, I’m not in the mood for serious discussion today. It’s Sunday, and so here I am sharing the song that I danced to 9 years ago. It’s been ages, and almost a decade, but it’s still fresh in my memory.

Alice in Wonderland…

I was in Wonderland. The same place where Alice of Alice in Wonderland went to. Or well… it’s not really Wonderland, but I was in Midvalley Megamall on business two days back, and they’re doing this wonderful promotion for Alice in Wonderland movie by Tim Burton by setting up the life size wonderland on the ground floor of Midvalley. The movie is screened in Malaysia on 11th March 2010, and as usual, there’s a mad rush in the cinema.

The was camwhoring to the max as well, and I wasn’t really keen on snapping photos, as there’s too much people over there. I daresay most of them are bloggers, camwhoring like nobody’s business and I daresay, there will be mushrooms of blogpost where bloggers would post up their pictures in the lifesize Wonderland in Midvalley Megamall. There’s huge mushroom and talking roses, as well as the tea party table and stuff.

I apologize if you’re expecting camwhoring picture of me with giant roses or even giant mushrooms, cuz there would be none over here. They are for my eyes only. 😛

What I want to share with you in this entry is Alice’s original story, Alice in Wonderland 2010, and the items that appeared in the movie itself.

Let’s start with Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll first, shall we? Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland, or usually better known as Alice in Wonderland was not quite my favourite as a child. It’s a good bedtime story, as it tend to bore me. My daddy’s stories are much more interesting to me than Alice’s adventure. In a way, Alice in Wonderland is a literary gibberish. And rightly so, as Alice’s in Wonderland’s genre is actually literary gibberish/literary nonsense, as many scholars would classify it.

The tale itself was written for a girl named Alice Liddell. It was told by Lewis Caroll to Alice Liddell and her sisters merely to pass time, but Alice Liddell likes the story, and asked Lewis Caroll to write it down for her, and thanks to this girl, Alice in Wonderland was published for the whole world to enjoy.

Alice in Wonderland, literally is a literary nonsense, where there’s no actual plot. The story is about a girl, wandering from one character another, and one place to another, and the author had told the story as he goes. That explained why Alice’s in Wonderland story is rather queer. People would either love it or hate it. But most would love it, as it played with logic. I kinda hate the story, though I would really love to go to Wonderland like Alice.

My daddy used to read Alic’s story to me, and I would either fall asleep almost instantly, or I’d begged him to tell me his own stories. Anyway Alice says something in the original story in the first chapter that most bloggers would agree. Below is what she said:

“What is a book without pictures and conversation?”

In modern era, that would definitely be this:

“What is a blog without pictures and camwhoring?”

LOL… fine, that’s not really a tasteful joke. I know loads of bloggers out there works with picture more than they work with words. 😛 Oh, well, many people have something in common with Alice- the love and fondness for pictures. And since most of you have something in common with Alice, maybe you should watch Alice in Wonderland (2010) by Tim Burton.

The movie is more to my kind, fantasy-like filled with dark action. I’ve watch it online, and I can assure you it would be entertaining. In my opinion, better than the original story, as there’s plot, and one could relate with the story-cause and action. The book may send me to sleep, but surprisingly, the movie didn’t. Perhaps it’s because it’s filled with action.

In the movie, an adult Alice attends a party at a Victorian estate shortly after the death of her father. She then discovered that the party is actually an engagement party to wed her into the Ascot family, who now own her father’s trading firm. Unsure of an answer to the proposal, Alice runs away and follows the White Rabbit, but falls down a rabbit hole into a weird world she previously visited as a child, although she has no memory of it. From there Alice’s adventure begins, and she then tries to free the weird world from the clutches of an evil queen who stole the throne from her sister.

When I was in Midvalley Megamall earlier on, I managed to snap some picture of the life-size Wonderland. They did quite a good job recreating Wonderland, and being claustrophobic around people, I only went back there at about 11pm to snap some photos. I just can’t stand the crowd and camwhoring. 🙁 So pardon me for the poor pictures, as they had already turned off the lights when I went there to snap pictures.

The description above made me think that sometimes, people failed their spellings because of looking at too much pictures. Tsk tsk tsk! Malaysians!


The teapot that’s used in the tea party in Alice in Wonderland. Tea is my kinda thing. I would have tea anytime. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t invited for the tea party.

So yeah, Alice hid inside the teapot when she was as small as Thumbelina.

So yeah, it’s supposed to be cakes inside the glass box, ladies and gentlemen, not praline or chocolates.

One item that really caught my attention is this beautiful shield that’s supposed to be Alice’s.

I brought these back home as something to remember Wonderland by. It’s actually vouchers cum character’s profile cards, but not many bothered to look at these freebies, as they were too busy snapping away.

Nice, isn’t it? They are beautifully printed on glossy cards. Too bad not many are interested in the character’s profile cards.

And since I’m in the mood of Alice’s in Wonderland and in need of sleep… I think I’ll just read this book tonight.

Gosh… it’s been ages since I last read this book. It must be almost a decade… and boy, the pages are so yellowish and the book has an awful old book smell.

And do you know that even though Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty and the Jabberwock are often thought to be characters in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, they actually only appear in the sequel, Through the Looking-Glass?

Til death do us apart?

Two of my favourite blogging buddies today talks about relationship. Or rather sex and marriage. Calvin talks about marriage. Pete talks about some sex potion that can make you as ‘strong as Superman’. Both gave me good laugh and good insight.

I think I should join in the fun, but being a rather contrary person, I’ll delve into a more depressing topic. I’ll talk about relationship, yes, but be forewarned, I think mine will not be as funny or as pleasant as Pete or Calvin’s.

All right, here goes nothing. I know this is pretty outdated, but I’ve watched the movie called ‘The Notebook’ adapted from a novel of the same name. I don’t want to give spoilers to the movie or the novel, but a certain issue that has been brought up by The Notebook sometimes makes me shudder.

I know a lot of hopeless romantics out there took vows that they will be together with their spouse til death do them apart, or for as long as they both shall live, but in modern world, marriage seems to be disposable. Divorce happens, separation and disagreements happens too. Let’s face it, marriage may not be made of porcelains, but they are breakable if one do not make an effort to make a marriage work. Sometimes, not even children could keep marriage intact.

However, The Notebook did not bring up the issues like divorce and seperation, and yet it still made my eyes misted and makes me ponder deeply. No shits, it made me broke into a sobby mess. The question that the story brought up is this: How far could you go on loving someone? Could you go on loving someone who forgets you, not by choice but by sickness? Would you go on loving and living with your husband or wife if he or she forgets about you and had no idea who you are? Would you really be with your spouse in sickness, or you decided that its too painful to go on loving someone who is invalid, aging, couldn’t take care of themselves and could not even remember who you are?

In The Notebook, the wife of the protagonist was aging and could not remember her husband or even her children. The children took an easy way out because they have their own life and refuse to go through the pain of taking care of their invalid mother. They sent their mother to the old folks home, and let her be.

The husband of this lady, however loves her too much to let go of her, and so, he admitted himself into the old folks home and patiently tries to gets his wife to remember him by reading to her the story of their love when they were young. When she did not manage to remember him despite of his persistence, he did not walk away the way his children did. His love for her transcended memories that they had together, and he builds a new relationship with her as her elderly companion in the old folks home. Miraculously, in the end, the wife remembers him, and they were found dead on the bed together, holding hands.

I wonder. I truly wonder if my husband would love me enough that his love would transcend time and memories that we had together when I’m old, invalid and senile? Would he love me enough? When I thought of this, I wondered too, if I will be strong enough to face the fact that my husband had no idea who I was during the golden age. God forbids, but what if such things happen? Will I be strong enough? I honestly can’t say, because I am not sure if I can handle the agony of loving someone who don’t even remember who I was and what we had together. I myself tried to explore this issue in my own novel in progress, and though I’m certain that I will go on loving my husband if it’s fated that he will be senile in his older years, but I am not sure how I could deal with the pain of it.

I suppose, the most trying part of marriage is not really during the younger years, but the older years. Though you have live happily together with your spouse during the younger years the situation that truly will try the vows that you made during your wedding day will be time time of old age and the time of sickness. Dementia, Parkinson disease, cancer, and many more will be the ones that will tempt you to turn away from your ‘For better or worst, in sickness or in health’ vows.

I pray to God, and whatever power that’s above me that if it’s fated one day my husband and I be put in the same situation as the characters in the Notebook, my husband and will be blessed with enough strength, patience and kindness to face our unfortunate predicament.

I too, pray for all of you couples out there that your relationship will transcend time and memories and your love for each other will be everlasting.

The Notebook is not really for the lighthearted, or a person with a dam for eyes, but it is a good movie and a good novel to read. Below is the trailer for The Notebook, if you guys are interested to know how the issue was depicted into a beautiful romance.

Do away with Antoo Fighters- Amukan Drakulat, and even Harry Potter. Bring me Edward Cullen to feast my eyes upon. Who, says you? Oh… I’m talking about Twilight the movie main character, Edward Cullen, a dashingly handsome immortal vampire who fell for a mortal human girl, Bella Swan.

Twilight is not well advertised in Malaysia, and I am more than sure then when it hit Malaysian cinema on 27th November, six days more late than the actual release, it’ll be censored like hell. Typically Malaysian. Anyway, I don’t always do review on movies unless I am really into the movie in question. And in this case, I’m really into the movie. I have been anticipating the movie for quite some time now since I read the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer.

Yes, folks, Twilight is adapted from a novel. Stephanie Meyer may not be as well known as J.K. Rowling, but her masterpiece breathe new insight in paranormal romance. In Twilight world, vampires are not the conventional kind, they can mix around with humans and feast on animal blood, and no, sunlight do not kill them or make them explode either. Twilight Saga consist of four books, which is Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. A good read if you want something paranormal but won’t make you scream out of fright. Romantic too.

But when unexpected visitors come to town and realize that there is a human among them Edward must fight to save Bella? A modern, visual, and visceral Romeo and Juliet story of the ultimate forbidden love affair – between vampire and mortal.

I’m a sucker for classical music, so I was pleased that they used the classic song, Clair De Lune by Debussy as part of their movie soundtrack. I’m not a Claude Debussy fan, though. But I think it’s appropriate enough, considering the meaning of the song, which is moonlight. Sufficient enough for a vampire movie, I guess. Perhaps when I’m free, I’ll write something about Clair De Lune.

Presenting to you, ladies and gentlemen, the third movement of Claude Debussy ‘s piano suite bergamasque, Clair De Lune.

On the lighter note, yours truly have a confession to make. I originally anticipate a scene from the novel where Edward plays the lullaby that he composed for Bella. It’s supposed to be a beautiful and soothing melody, and fans all around were hoping that it would be this one. ‘River Flow In You’ by Yiruma. The very same pianist used for Winter Sonata.

However, they came out with this one, Bella’s lullaby by Carter Burwell. To say that I was aghast to see the scene was an understatement. I almost snarl in disappointment with the production’s decision to use this kind of music as a lullaby. It simply does not reflect what’s described in the novel. If you guys could find some time to listen to the music, do tell me what you think about it.

I would recommend you guys to read the novel first, then the movie. Personally, I prefer the novel more than the movie to fully enjoy the story and the character’s development process, but then again, I have hots for hunky, romantic and dangerous guys, so that explains why I anticipate the movie so much.

But if you’re not an avid reader the movie is worth a shot if you want something different. It’s Pg-13, though, not suitable for children.
