Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn part 1

Okay, I’ve been waiting for Breaking Dawn Part 1 to come out and now that it has, I couldn’t help myself but watch it.

The movie starts off with the wedding of Edward and Bella and I thought it was rather emotionless and the wedding speech made by their family and friends were rather boring and corny. I thought the first 15 minutes was almost intolerable. Quite a disappointment, and not really up to par with the book. Sure, there’s a few memorable romantic lines here and there, but I seriously thought that the actor and actresses ought to put more emotion in their acting.

Everyone, especially Bella was appropriately vampire-rized in my opinion. All of them looks like they could used some good night sleep and a few jug of isotonic drinks. Actor and actresses appearance wasn’t quite up to my standard, cuz they all look either not enough sleep or tired, and the characters in Breaking Dawn are not supposed to look like that. They are supposed to look energetic and powerful.

The saving grace of this movie is of course the honeymoon scene in Isle of Esme and the brief romance between Edward and Bella before trouble starts to knock on their door; accidental, unplanned pregnancy. Bella got pregnant and the pregnancy was something that seems to come out of a horror movie, considering that the child she was carrying was not a human. The unborn child was considered as a threat to both vampires and werewolves and it gets messy from there.

Overall, Breaking Dawn is an okay movie to watch if you like drama and some action. Personally, I think it’s not great… but an okay watch. And I would prefer it even more if there’s better soundtrack for it.

Cleffairy: I suppose I’ll always be the type of person who prefers novels over it’s movie adaptations.

Puss in Boots

So, what did I do when my whole family was not well? Well, apart from getting knocked out by those damn meds, I took the chance to chill out with my son a lil bit.

I stayed away from the PC and slowed my pace in writing my novel abit, leave some of my piling work undone and picked out a few good movies to watch with my boy when we’re not well.

I know we’re supposed to be resting in bed and stuff, but then again, I take this as an opportunity given to us by God to slow down in life a little bit and learn to get all cozy even though we don’t feel comfortable. There’s no point in complaining, right? It gets you nowhere and at the end of the day, it complaining just gets you irritated.

A couple of days ago… my boy was still coughing and sneezing and having fever. I did not allow him to go to school and he was getting rather bored despite the fact that I gave him some writing exercise to do. Even my Doraemon comics doesn’t seems to amuse him. ( I know I’m a bad mum, but tell me…how many mums out there lets her kids read comic books? See, I am not THAT bad of a mum. I let my kid have fun! LOL) He doesn’t seems to have interest in anything and so I turned on the PC to look for some movies to watch online.

Puss in Boots caught my interest and I decided to watch that with my boy, and we’re got really hooked on it. *grinz* I know that it’s somewhat illegal to watch those movies online, but hey, who cares…the quality is good and I don’t even have to step out of the house to have some quality time… so why not?

Puss in Boots is highly entertaining and engaging. It’s really a good movie to watch with your little ones if you’re a fan of comedic misadventures, that is. I’m telling you, if you love Shrek movies, you will definitely love Puss in Boots.

Puss in Boots is actually the prequel to Shrek movie instalments, telling the misadventures of Puss, Humpty and Puss’s love interest/sidekick, Kitty Softpaws. The three friends were pitted against Jack and Jill, two murderous outlaws who discover an ancient power which threatens the world.

The story takes place before Puss met Shrek and Donkey, when he was a swashbuckling hero who protected the innocent.

The movie opens with Puss escaping a bounty hunter and entering a nearby town. Puss learns that two murderous outlaws, Jack and Jill have the magic beans he’s been looking for half his life, which lead to a giant’s castle holding valuable golden goose eggs. When Puss tries to take them from the two outlaws, another cat with a mask interrupts. Both fail and escaped, and Puss follows the cat back to his hideout, where they have both a dance and a sword fight. After getting hit in the head with a guitar by Puss during their fight, the other cat reveals that she is female, much to Puss’s surprise.

Puss then meets his old childhood friend Humpty Dumpty who introduces her as Kitty Softpaws, one of the best cat thieves in the world. They ask him to join them in finding the beans, planting them, and getting the golden eggs which lie at the top. Puss refuses to work with Humpty due to a past betrayal that left him falsely accused for robbery, alienating him from his hometown and adoptive mother.

So… what happens next? I’m not going to spoil it for you, but I have to say that the movie is highly entertaining and is filled with moral values. It’s something you might wanna watch with your little children this coming school holiday.

If I were to rate this movie, I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars. I thought Shrek was much more funny and wacky in comparison to Puss in Boots.

Watch the trailer for Puss in Boots below.

If the trailer caught your interest, don’t forget to bring your kids to the cinema this coming holiday to watch this, though. It’s a different experience altogether. 😀

New Breaking Dawn Trailer

I can’t help myself. The temptation is too huge to deny :P… I must share this… but my advice to you folks out there in regards to Twilight… DO take some time to read the book first before you watch the movie.

Cleffairy: My reaction when I first watched this trailer is: YIPPIE… the feather scene is there. 😛 Tsk. I’m a sucker for romance. So sue me. 😛

Life Lessons from The Help: Pain Happens in a Broken World

Have you read or seen the movie, THE HELP? If you have, you know it is a story about racism and the treatment of black maids who worked for white people in the South. People’s reactions range from outrage at the humiliation blacks have often received, to charges that it was biased and untrue.

I came out of the movie grieving. I not only felt wretched at the pain racism causes, but also at the hurt and suffering that comes when people mistreat others. Pain Happens in a Broken World. Being cruel to others, whether by actions or words, happens in every culture for many reasons: because individuals think they are superior for some reason due to their skin color, gender, position in society, wealth, or education. Whatever the reasons, they all flow from a sinful heart.
Have you been hurt?
  • Have you known what it is like to be looked down on, dismissed as unimportant, or made to feel unwanted? Have you experienced cruelty of some kind? How did it make you feel?
  • Have you wrestled with anger, wanting to get revenge, or feeling crushed and of no worth? In The Help, one of the poorly treated maids gets her revenge in a startling way. But revenge is God’s prerogative, and not ours to take (Romans 12:19).
  • Your pain might have come from someone you work with, live next to, or go to school with. Its source could be a relative or close family. Even fellow believers hurt others when operating in the flesh and not the Spirit. But no matter where your pain originated, it is something God wants to heal.
  • God Cares About You. Why should He care? Why does He call you to forgive those who have harmed you? Because He loves you and wants the appalling power of bitterness, hatred, and inner rage to stop poisoning your heart and your life.
  • God’s Path to Healing. How can you and I, followers of the Lord Jesus, indwelt by His Mighty and All-powerful Spirit, find freedom from pain? Only by forgiving the one, or many, who caused our pain.
Three necessary principles for dealing with pain:
  • Reject blame and bitterness. It doesn’t move you forward. It chains you to the past.
  • Pray for willingness to forgive. It is a process that often requires time to work through.
  • Forgive the offender. Be willing to release that person from your desire for revenge, or even for an apology. Realize they most likely have moved on and forgotten the incident. Remembering is only hurting you. Let it go.
Remember something else: the Lord is our Healer. He wants you to experience joy, no matter how much pain you have experienced. He wants you to THRIVE in every aspect of your life. And He has provided a way for this to happen! Will you walk in it?

Nasi Lemak 2.0 Movie Review

Okay, here’s the review as promised. Nasi Lemak 2.0 was produced by Prodigee Media and was directed by Namewee. Bluntly and harshly put, Nasi Lemak 2.0 is definitely not for bimbos, himbos, and people who lack intelligence. If you’re a bimbo, himbo or someone who don’t really follow what’s going on in Malaysia, then this movie is a plain, nonsensical comedy with loads of computer effects about someone who is just trying to make the best nasi lemak to you. You’ll need some functional brain to decipher the real meaning behind Nasi Lemak 2.0. Truthfully, it’s not just a musical comedy with RPG game quest-like storyline.

Professionally put, this movie is an artfully directed and a very patriotic movie. Nasi Lemak 2.0 is very colourful, exquisitely scripted, thought provoking and highly inspirational-but not in a bad way that most skeptics have been expecting before the launching of this movie. Definitely not in a bad way, I can vouch for that.

This movie is very thought provoking and tells alot of social issues that we may and may not be aware of. There’s a lot of hidden messages and methaphor in this movie. Even the characters’ physical appearance actually means something in Nasi Lemak 2.0.

There’s much to be said about Nasi Lemak 2.0. I’ll try to review it without revealing too much spoilers.

The movie starts off with the subtle questioning of why most people in Malaysia still define themselves by ethnicity, and why they are too proud of themselves when they are actually nobody and refused to be humble? Viewers are also questioned on why one refuse to improvise and prefers to stay in their comfort zone, even when the occasion calls for it.

Chef Huang (Namewee), the main character in this movie represent someone who is too proud of his own ethnicity and refuse to acknowledge that he is actually a true Malaysian. He is always too proud with the fact that he’s a Chinese, and refused to learn new things and be humble, even though he’s on the verge of being a beggar on the street and whatnot. Simply put, Chef Huang is a character that represent a lot of people in Malaysia who are still too proud of their own ethnicity and have tendency to discriminate others.

A lot issues including plagiarism and terrible command of English was portrayed through various characters like the journalist and Xiao K’s uncle, and at some point, Nasi Lemak 2.0 poked fun at various service providers in Malaysia as well for their incompetency to provide competitive service just because they monopoly the market. Eg: TMnet and TNB.

Anyway, the story proceeds with Chef Huang being jobless. Then enters Xiao K, an ugly girl who constantly bug Chef Huang to help her to save her family business from falling to the hands of her unscrupulous aunt. Xiao K is a very kind hearted girl, but Chef Huang called her a nuisance because she’s ugly and throughout the movie, he’s portrayed as someone who loves to judge people by the way they look and through their ethnicity- again, something that a lot of us tends to do.

Chef Huang eventually relented and decided to change to be a better man with the help of Xiao K. Slowly, he started to be humble and gradually, he begin to comes out from his comfort zone by learning to cook something new apart from just cooking his Chinese fried rice-nasi lemak. Throughout his journey and his quest to search for the best nasi lemak recipe, he met alot of charismatic people who taught him various things in life through their recipe.

There is a lot of moral values in this story-reflected and portrayed by various characters, and it’s up to the viewers to interpret each and every one of it. Nasi Lemak 2.0 is a movie that teaches you to be humble, not discriminate as well as stereotyping. Family values and the importance of family ties and living in harmony with each other are included in this movie too.

Viewers are also encouraged to follow their dreams, forgive those who have wronged you and not judge people by the way they look or define them by their ethnicity. And if one watched closely enough, another message that’s included in this movie is to be brave enough to admit your mistakes, apologize and do the right thing by making an effort to correct your mistakes. People are also encouraged to give a second chance to people who have made terrible mistakes in their life.

I like how wonderful messages like “Money is the root of all evil” and “Why can’t we just get along? We’re all the same despite of our skin colour and the language that we speak” were interwoven so delicately in this movie. It’s very subtle and delicately put, and when the movie comes to an end, I’m amazed by how most of the characters have grown and changed to be a better version of themselves.

This movie is highly dynamic.

Apart from being highly educational and inspirational, this movie is also humourously sarcastic and highly entertaining. It comes with a lot of nice soundtrack and catchy dancing scenes, just like a Bollywood movie.

Is this movie worth your money to watch in the cinema? Well…if you’re not a bimbo or a himbo, yes, this movie is worth your money to watch. It is not only entertaining, but it’s full of moral values as well. This is a five star movie to watch, and I’d say I doff my hat for the director’s editing skills as well. It’s flawless despite the fact that this movie is a low budget movie. This movie will be screening in Malaysia on 8th September. And if you’re worried about this movie being infested vulgar languages and expletives, rest assured that there’s not a single vulgar word were uttered in this movie. I’m not sure what’s the rating of this movie, but to be safe, I’d just say it’s PG-13.

Here’s the official trailer for Nasi Lemak 2.0

And below is Nasi Lemak 2.0 theme song, Rasa Sayang 2.0 by Namewee and Karen Kong.

Amazing enough, another set of message was interwoven in the theme song. Unlike the the movie itself that concentrate on teaching people to be humble, don’t judge people by their appearance, don’t discriminate and live righteously, the theme song tries to persuade people to be patriotic and not to forget their root. Nasi Lemak 2.0 Red Carpet Gala

Below are some of the artistes who attended Nasi Lemak 2.0 Red Carpet Gala. The Red Carpet Gala was held at The Laundry Bar- The Curve on 28th August 2011. Pictures were taken during exclusive interviews with the casts.

These two came out from retirement just to help Namewee with the Nasi Lemak 2.0. I think those who grew up in the 90s would remember them as ‘Baba’ and ‘Nyonya’.

Looks like a street punk, no? Dennis Lau may play the villain in Nasi Lemak 2.0, but I can assure you that this young talented violinist is nothing but a gentleman in real life.

If I’m not mistaken, this lady played the fisherman’s wife in Nasi Lemak 2.0.

The forever lively Kak Adibah Noor. It’s been years since I last talked to her. If I’m not mistaken it was in 2006. Time flies, but she’s still the happy go lucky person I used to know.=.=  Kak Adibah still have her sense of humour and pulled me to take a photo with her during the cast interview. Darn. I immediately wished that I bothered to dress up a lil bit and put on some make up. I daresay I look like… well… look like a Vampire. (minus the sparkle…*roll eyes*)

The Curry Master’s daughter…

.

.

Karen Kong played Chef Huang’s sidekick in Nasi Lemak 2.0. She also lend her voice in the making of Nasi Lemak 2.0 OST. If you haven’t listened to any of her songs yet, I suggest you start doing it now. She have some really nice songs, both in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin, no kidding.

.

.

.

I grew up knowing Datuk David Arumugam as ‘Uncle Alleycat’ with his trademark ‘Terima kaseeeeeehhhh!’ and I listened to his songs when I was a little girl as my father was a huge fan of his songs, especially ‘Jika Kau Bercinta Lagi’. I’m camera shy, but I couldn’t help myself but asked him to snap a pic or two with me so that I can MMS it to my father. =.=”. Datuk David Arumugam played the strict Curry Master who speak multiple languages in Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Do you recognize who they are? Kenny, Chee, and is that Patrick Teoh and his wife at the back? =.=’ I seriously need to get myself a better camera… or rather, a new pair of spectacles.

Namewee himself. He’s the kind of person who you either will like, or you don’t like. Alot of people don’t like him because he use alot of vulgar language in his songs, but I happen to like him alot, and to me, his works are rather inspirational and thought provoking. He’s a very charismatic man, and I hope that people will stop stereotyping him just because he’s a little bit on the rebellious side when he started off his career in the entertainment industry.

I’ll be reviewing the Nasi Lemak 2.0 soon. In the meantime, if you’re interested in Nasi Lemak 2.0, do check out the official Nasi Lemak 2.0 website and LIKE the FB page HERE.

Cleffairy: Stay tune for the review of Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 OST: Rasa Sayang 2.0

Here’s sharing Nasi Lemak 2.0’s theme song, ‘Rasa Sayang 2.0’, sung by Namewee himself and the talented Karen Kong.

The song is very catchy, and with very meaningful lyrics too. If you think just because this song is sung by Namewee and it contains rude or vulgar words like some of his other songs, you’d be surprise that this song is surprisingly clean and pleasant.

One of the message that I managed to catch is loving one’s country and not forgetting your root no matter how rich and how successful you’ve become.

I’m looking forward to the launching of this movie, and looking forward to review it.

Cleffairy: Some people have been asking me if I’m paid to promote this movie but sorry to disappoint you gossip-mongers. I am merely doing this to support my artist friends who have worked very hard to produce this movie without much financial backing. Seriously speaking, they deserves some credits and appreciation for all of their hard work.

Official Nasi Lemak 2.0 Trailer

Here’s sharing with you the trailer of Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Kinda impressive to me, considering that the entire movie was shot by merely using a DSLR camera. Talk about utilizing a DSLR camera to the max. I definitely admire this kind of skill more than those who uses the DSLR camera just to camwhore.

I don’t really watch local dramas and local movies, but at least this one is not about bomohs, pontianaks, mat rempit, bohsia as well as gangsters. One would say that Namewee is a rude feller, and refuse to give him a hoot just because he’s a little bit on the rebellious side, but if you don’t give people a chance to prove that they are worth something, then that is called stereotyping.

Check HERE is you want to know more about Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Cleffairy: I am above stereotyping.

The Making of Nasi Lemak 2.0

When you talk about Namewee, alot of people will think that’s he’s one rude chap as he excessively used vulgar words in his songs and whatnot. But the truth is far removed from reality. Namewee is not just an ordinary punk as he portrayed himself to be in public.

He’s just misunderstood as a lot of people tends to judge a book by it’s cover. I’ve met him before, and he’s nothing but a gentleman, and I must say, quite a shy feller. We’ve chatted for a while and not even one vulgar word was hurled at me, and I was really surprised. He’s in fact, a very polite young man and is very encouraging of aspiring artists and authors.

I came to understand that Namewee is also a patriot who wants nothing but a better Malaysia for the future generation (somehow on the twisted and darker side, though). He mentioned that as an artist, he feels that the only way he can reach out to the public about his visions is through his songs. It may not be well received by those who are prim and proper and those who supported the government, but well, at least he made his point, and to me, he’s much better than those who just know how to rant on various social media sites but at the end of the day, contributes nothing at all to the country. That sort of people, are just empty cans to me.

Some of you may and may not know that Namewee have been working hard on his first movie, Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Nasi Lemak 2.0. is a movie about a young chef, Chef Huang who is on a quest to find the best Nasi Lemak recipe. I have yet to watch the movie as it’ll only be released in September, but I can say it’s a multi-cultural based film where the main protagonist meet alot kind of people along the way in his quest /misadventure and learn the true meaning of unity and non-discrimination.

Interesting story with catchy soundtrack, really, and to think that the government had initially given him a red light just because he’s a controversial artist. Talk about stereotyping!

Due to the controversial issues faced by Namewee last September, the initial plan to complete Nasi Lemak 2.0 for 2010 came to a complete halt when the sponsors and investors decided to pull out from the project. Luckily for him, the Minister from the Prime Minister’s office, Dato Seri Nazri Aziz officially announced Namewee’s innocence after viewing his proposal and Nasi Lemak 2.0 movie trailer in Parliament at end of last year, they were able to revive the project again in 2011.

Artists line up for Nasi Lemak 2.0 is most impressive. There’s Adibah Noor, Dato’ David Arumugam, Karen Kong, Afdlin Shauki, Kenny & Chee, Reshmonu, Dennis Lau, Nur Fathia, Nadine Ann Thomas, Pete Teo, Ho Yuhang, Dian Sharlin, Felixia Yeap and many more famous celebrities, and most of them volunteered to act in Nasi Lemak 2.0 without asking for anything in return. Now, this is what I call unity.

You know what’s more amazing about Nasi Lemak 2.0? Well, despite of the low budget and various obstacles placed by the the ruling government in the beginning, the movie was completed within 6 month time. Amazing? Well to me it is amazing. Another amazing thing about this movie is that they only used DSLR camera to do the shooting. How about that? Talk about fully utilizing the DSLR camera.

Check out the pics below… it’s taken during the shooting of Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Namewee and Nasi Lemak 2.0 crew. Notice the camera? It’s not huge like those people usually use to produce movies. This one is just a DSLR camera. They just use DSLR camera cuz there’s budget restriction and they have to make do with what they have I was really surprised during the Press Conference. The quality of the movie was really good despite the fact that they did not use high end cameras for the shooting.

Local artistes who starred in Nasi Lemak 2.0. I can only recognize Adibah Noor and Karen Kong inside this picture, though. Adibah Noor is one of the most versatile artist in Malaysia. She’s not only an awesome singer, but her acting career have been pointing to the sky since she acted in the late Yasmin Ahmad movies. Adibah Noor plays Kak Noor who is the mysterious nasi lemak stall owner who holds the secret of the perfect nasi lemak in Nasi Lemak 2.0. Interesting enough, she’s also a tai-chi master in the movie.

One of the scenes in Nasi Lemak 2.0. Afdlin Shauki, Reshmonou and Namewee. Afdlin Shauki played a down to earth fisherman with four wives while Reshmonou played a historical hero who came to Chef Huang’s aid when he’s in trouble.

From left: Namewee, Afdlin and Reshmonou, having fun on the set.

Namewee and Karen Kong in Nasi Lemak 2.0. Karen Kong have an interesting history in the Malaysian entertainment industry. She’s the first Malaysian Chinese to debut with a full Malay album. She plays the heroine in this movie.

Namewee and Dato’ David Arumugam. Datuk David  Arumugam is widely recognized in Malaysia as the pioneer of championing the muhibbah spirit where his all-Indian band Alleycats was the first non-Malay band to be accepted and hugely popular in the Malay music industry. In Nasi Lemak 2.0, he plays Curry Master who taught Chef Huang (Namewee) about how understanding a good curry mix is vital to building a harmonious society in a multi-cultural country.

Dato’ David Arumugam is my childhood idol. I love his songs when I was a little girl.  My dad used to turn on his cassettes every now and then, and each time I look at him, I feel like singing his old songs. My all time favourite is “Jika Kau Bercinta Lagi”. Take a note on the picture above. Notice Namewee’s T-shirt? There’s a message in it. ‘Why can’t we all just get along?’. Indeed. Why can’t we all just get along?

I know most of you are not a fan of Namewee, but I think it’s fair if his artworks are viewed with an open mind, especially Nasi Lemak 2.0. At least this one is a multi-cultural film with tonns of unity message embedded inside. To me, it is way better than those cheap looking horror movies or those gangsters and mat rempit movies. In case you’re interested in Nasi Lemak 2.0, here’s the link to the official website:
