Dive in with ‘The Deepest Breath’: A Splashingly Fun Movie Night at Freediving Adventure Malaysia

Just last night, my fellow freediving enthusiasts and I embarked on an adventurous movie night at FAM-Freediving Adventure Malaysia.

With slices of pizzas in hand and anticipation in the air, we settled down to watch Netflix’s captivating documentary film, ‘The Deepest Breath.’

Guys, grab your snorkel and get ready to dive right in as I share our exhilarating experience during this fun-filled movie night!

When it comes to movies, there’s something uniquely exciting about watching one that centers around a shared passion. As freedivers, we were thrilled to discover ‘The Deepest Breath’ on Netflix. This film promised to immerse us in a world competitive freediving, heartwarming relationships, and adrenaline-fueled diving moments. Naturally, our expectations were high, and boy, did it deliver!

Nope. I won’t be giving you spoilers, but all I can say is from the very first dive in the movie, we found ourselves entranced with details. The scenes were so vivid and immersive, it felt as if we were freediving right alongside the divers.

‘The Deepest Breath,’ much like freediving itself, emphasized the importance of camaraderie. It shows us a journey of a group of divers who became tight-knit underwater family. Their friendship and support shone through as they navigated challenges, faced their fears, and celebrated successes together.

As freedivers ourselves, we resonated deeply with the movie’s depiction of the thrill and tranquility found beneath the surface. The film’s exploration of the physical and mental aspects of freediving reminded us why we fell in love with this sport in the first place. We left the movie night with ignited passion, eager to plan our next adventure and dive even deeper.

‘The Deepest Breath’ brought waves of excitement and joy to our freediving movie night. From the captivating scenes to the stunning underwater visuals, the film made for an unforgettable experience. Watching it alongside our fellow freedivers added a sense of community and enthusiasm that made the night even more special.

Whether you’re a seasoned freediver or simply curious about the sport, ‘The Deepest Breath’ is an absolute must-watch. So grab your dive buddies, cuddle up with some delicious pizza, and prepare to be submerged in this underwater adventure.

Here’s one for the album. I’m so grateful that FAM organized the fun movie night for us, and hopefully, there will be much more fun nights like this to come.

Scuba Diving Experience at UCSI Diving Centre, Cheras

It was 19th May 2019 and it’s my husband’s birthday, and also our wedding anniversary.  I have always felt that blowing candles on cakes is so overrated, and so I decided to do something different this year.

image

Although I had my eyes on tandem skydiving to commemorate our 17th anniversary, I gave it a pass considering that my husband does not deal well with with heights. So, instead of getting on a plane and jump off, I dragged him to Discovery Scuba Diving trial session at USCI Diving Centre with me to celebrate; literally under water. Here’s a picture of me and my husband at UCSI Diving Centre. It’s our first diving experience ever, and I was really excited about it.

image

Here are the equipments commonly used for Scuba Diving; oxygen tank, regulators, weight belts, snorkel masks, fins, etc.

image

Our diving instructor was Ms.Cyviour and here’s safety briefing in session. We were briefed on how to equip ourselves with the scuba diving equipments alongside the hand signals that is commonly used to communicate among divers underwater.

image

Once our instructor was satisfied that everything was all right and that we understood everything that she conveyed, we hopped into the pool to experience our very first confined water diving.

image

It feels amazing, to be honest, and definitely something I’d do again in a heartbeat.

image

Here’s yours truly, learning how to navigate and maneuveur in the water. It’s truly relaxing and thereupeutic.

image

We were taught to always stay near our diving buddy and never stray far in any circumstances.

image

I’m not much a swimmer, to be honest. At most, I can say that I can only float around. Initially I thought diving would be difficult, but trust me, diving is honestly easier than swimming. At least to me, it is easier than swimming once you get used to breathing with your mouth through the regulator.

image

My husband and I in the pool together. I wanted to do the “I jump, you jump” from the plane but ended up trying scuba diving instead for our anniversary. No regrets there and I’m already scheming for a PADI license so that I will be able to experience the beauty of the underwater world, and hopefully by our 18th anniversary next year, we’ll be able to dive for real in the open water with PADI license in our pocket.

image

It was indeed a memorable experience, I must say and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Diving is definitely endorphine inducing and I really like it alot.

If you would like to try diving but not sure where to start, you might want to consider heading over to USCI Diving Centre, Cheras. The instructors are really patient and friendly and the session is non-swimmer friendly.

⚡️Discovery Scuba Diving Session RM50 / person only(promo price)】
Inclusive of full equipment + One-time 60 minutes scuba diving confined water experience @ UCSI Swimming Pool.

Discovery Scuba Diving is available for adult/child age 8 and above. For more info about PADI and scuba diving courses offered at UCSI Diving Centre, hop over to: https://www.facebook.com/ucsiscubadiving/

Amazing and Thrilling Time at Skytropolis Funland, Resorts World Genting

I don’t like boring people and boring things in my life. I like heart-pumping exhilarating things. They make me feel alive, and I constantly look for things that gives me such feelings. I guess I am an Adreneline junkie after all. And speaking of being an Adrenaline junkie, I must share with you the perfect place you must go if you like all things fun and thrilling; the newly opened Skytropolis Funland in Resorts World Genting.

image

Skytropolis Funland  made it’s debuts in December last year. Since it’s  opening, it has attracted thousands of visitors to the resort. Previously known as the First World Indoor Theme Park, the attraction saw more than 20 million visitors walking through and enjoying the indoor theme park with more than 1,000,000 tickets sold a year before its closure in 2017.

image

Divided into Child, Family and Thrill categories, each of the rides has been specifically designed with a glorious andkaleidoscopic atmosphere. For children, things can start off merrily in the Ride ‘Em Round, a classic carousel of pastiche elephants, lions and horses, whirling around at speed. Pick up
the pace in the Whirly Bugs ride, where kids will be seated in pods rotating swiftly around a central spire. Boo Boo Bump provides a spin on the classic bumper cars, while Loop De Loop rotates frantically around an illuminated wrought-iron Genting Tower to shrieks of joy. Kid-friendly drop tower Jumping Spurs with mild drops and climbs will be added soon. Adults can get in on the fun as well, with rides meant for the whole family to enjoy.

image

Here’s me and my son, riding on the bumper car in Skytropolis Funland. I was abot reluctant to hop in cuz I’m a terrible bumper car driver and instead of bumping other cars, I keep getting pushed to the corner. But my son is a good bumper car driver, so I let him do the job.

image

Taking a ride at the carousel. More for kids, but hey, adults can give this a go too.

image

Taking the Space Cadet ride with my son. It’s not a fast ride and fits two person, so it is quite suitable for a pair of parent and child.

image

The Skytower ride was one of my favourite ride at Skytropolis Funland. This ride takes us up to the top of an Art Deco tower at a leisurely pace, only to drop us at thrilling speed to the base. I screamed really loud, when it dropped, I must say. It’s so exciting and I will definitely go on this again in a heartbeat in my next visit to Skytropolis Funland.

image

Here’s experiencing another thrill ride at Skytropolis Funland; The Disco. It spins really fast and gives such an Adrenaline boost. I must admit that I screamed really loud when it started to spin too. A must ride if you love those crazily fast ride.

image

But if you’re to ask me what gives me most excitement at Skytropolis Funland is this; the Zipline Eagle Landing.

image

Here’s yours truly, all geared up for the Zipline Eagle Landing.

image

Stretching 200 metres across the indoor theme park, four floors from the ground.

image

The zip line which is the longest in a shopping mall in Malaysia, offers a one-of-a-kind view of the indoor theme park for adrenaline junkies who will whizz through, high above everyone. It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted or those with phobia of heights, but perfect for thrill seekers and Adrenaline junkie like me.

image

Tickets for Zipline Eagle Landing are priced at RM31 for one rider, RM25 for two riders and RM19 for 4 riders.

image

Needless to say, this newly revamped indoor theme park is a portal to a new
dimension of fun, which will take guests on thrilling adventures and adrenaline-packed rides. From its entrance with actual moving gears, to the thousands of colourful light bulbs that deck out each ride, every inch of the indoor theme park promises extreme fun.

Ticket pricing:

Pay-per-ride tickets are priced at RM10 from Mondays to Fridays and at RM15 on Saturdays to Sundays, Public Holidays, Eve of Public Holidays and on School Holidays. For those looking for an unlimited experience based on the available rides, the Skytropolis Funland Preview Pass is available at RM60. Tickets for Skytroplis Funland can be purchased at the Ticketing Counters or at the Self-Service Ticketing Kiosks. Alternatively, Preview Passes may be purchased online at www.rwgenting.com.

Operating hours are from 10am to 10pm.

Fun Things to Do in Resorts World Genting: Watch Movies at Bona Cinema

Fancy some movie marathon with your loved ones? How about doing it up in the cloud at 6,000ft above sea level at Resorts World Genting?

image

Bona Cinemas at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting has recently announced that they’ve added IMAX and Gold Class with D-BOX halls to its gilded cineplex and I decided to go for a little movie marathon to enjoy the latest movie in these awesome settings with the best of technology. It was an awesome experience, I assure you.

image

Watching movies in IMAX equipped hall is really engaging. IMAX technology, derived from the words Image Maximum, is widely considered the gold standard in motion picture immersion, able to capture images of greater size and resolution to bring even the smallest of details and sounds to life with a visceral punch.

image

If you’re to ask me how it’s like to watch movies in IMAX, I will have to say IMAX draws you into something as close to reality as you have ever experienced. I was informed that at IMAX equipped halls, two projectors run simultaneously to provide the perfect image with a balance of warmth and sharpness. My movie watching experience in IMAX includes immensely real explosion. Even whispers from the movies seems to come over my shoulder. The rumbling bass can be felt instead of heard. Every note of the soundtrack and every drop of pin seems to be clearer in IMAX. It really feels as if the cinema has been fully customized for an optimal experience.

image

Apart from that, if you are looking for an out of the world movie watching experience, you may also opt for Bona Cinemas’ Gold Class VIP seats with D-BOX technology.

image

A first in the Malaysian market, Bona Cinemas has combined the luxurious pleasure of Gold Class VIP seats with the dynamic D-BOX technology.

image

Each seat at the Gold Class hall with D-BOX is equipped with the D-BOX patented motion system with four levels of intensity control, which swivels and tilts on a two-axis configuration to truly bring the viewer into the thick of the action.

image

Combined with the latest Dolby Atmos audio system that wraps the audience with three-dimensional sound, the entire movie watching experience made me feel as if I am part of the scene – along for the ride in thrilling chase sequences and feeling the weight of every single impact, whether physical or emotional.

My movie marathon had never been more satisfying than watching the movies in IMAX and Gold Class in D-Box at Bona Cinemas. If I were to describe my overall experience, I must say that I went to another universe through those two halls. In my humble opinion, there is no better gateway into cinematic perfection in Malaysia than at Bona Cinemas in Resorts World Genting.

Bona Cinemas is located on Level 1 of SkyAvenue mall in Resorts World Genting. The cinema has a total of six halls, covering 38,848 square feet. All halls are equipped with the latest Dolby Atmos sound system for maximum cinematic immersion, and a wide variety of snacks are available at the concession stand.

Editor’s Pick: 10 Must Do Things in Royal Belum Rainforest, Malaysia

Photographer: Jessy Ong, Terrence Lei and Adam Lau

Written by: Ellie Toh

 photo FB_IMG_1492714071260_zpsjpoysuxe.jpg

Planning for an adventure in Royal Belum State Park in Perak, Malaysia? Royal Belum State Park or sometimes known as Belum-Temenggor is the largest continuous forest complex in Peninsular Malaysia. Geographically, it is located in the Malaysian state of Perak and crosses into Southern of Thailand. Belum-Temenggor is divided into two sections. Belum is located up north right by the Malaysia-Thailand border while Temenggor is south of Belum. The Royal Belum State Park is entirely contained within the forest complex.

 photo FB_IMG_1492714139195_zpssokouyjv.jpg

Royal Belum is believed to have been in existence for over 130 million years making it one of the world’s oldest rainforests, older than both the Amazon and the Congo. In the heart of the forest lies the manmade lake known as Tasik Temenggor, covering 15,200 hectares which is dotted with hundreds of islands.

The Royal Belum Rainforest is relatively untouched by unscrupulous development and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including 14 of the world’s most threatened mammals including the Malayan tiger, Asiatic elephant, white handed gibbon,Malaysian sunbear and tapir.

Royal Belum Rainforest have plenty to offer to adventurers and nature lovers alike and here’s a little guide on the ‘must do things’ if you happen to plan an eco-escapade in Royal Belum Rainforest:

1. See Rafflesia in Bloom

 photo received_10210021983161096_zpsopxyrcan.jpeg

Royal Belum Rainforest is a home to plenty of exotic plants. Among them are the Rafflesias. Rafflesia is a genus of parasitic flowering plants. The plant has no stems, leaves or true roots. The only part of the plant that can be seen outside the host vine is the five-petalled flower. The flowers look and smell like rotting flesh, hence its local names, ‘bunga bangkai’ or ‘bunga mayat’ which translate to “corpse flower” or “deadmeat flower”. The foul odour attracts insects such as flies, which transport pollen from male to female flowers. Most species have separate male and female flowers, but a few have hermaphroditic flowers. The Rafflesias are dubbed as the biggest flower in the world and can be found in plenty of sites in Royal Belum Rainforest. One of the more well known site are Sg. Dadong and nearby Ruok Waterfall. The Rafflesia flowers can easily be spotted at these two places but they are not always in bloom. A guide to these sites are needed, so do hook up with a guide prior your excursion.

2. Trekking to Sungai Kooi Waterfall

 photo PhotoGrid_1491307203518_zpsjasakz5g.jpg

Trekking to Sungai Kooi Waterfall is another must do thing if you are ever in Royal Belum Rainforest. The route to the Sungai Kooi Waterfall is a little bit challenging with slopes and slippery river stones, but it’s nothing a novice or a first timer cannot accomplish.

 photo received_10210022028122220_zps0xnulr3b.jpeg

Trekking to the waterfall takes about 45 mins before you will be rewarded by a showering piece of heaven.

The tall waterfall shower of Sungai Kooi Waterfall

A guide is needed to trek to this place, so do hook up with an experienced guide prior to your excursion.

3. Visit Kg. Aman Damai and spend a day with the Jehai Tribe.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491310233949_zpsknpkervt.jpg

If there’s one thing that you should not missed doing while you are in Royal Belum Rainforest is to spend a day at Kg. Aman Damai getting to know the people of the Jehai tribes.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491310285273_zpsvfdinm8j.jpg

The place is located about 2 hours boat ride from Tasik Banding Jetty and offers plenty of cultural insights on how the aborigines goes about their daily lives. And as a bonus?

 photo PhotoGrid_1491310033343_zpstv0glxzq.jpg

You get to experience some of the things they do yourselves too. Eg: Trying out the traditional blowguns made from bamboo (sumpit).

 photo PhotoGrid_1491310160826_zpsbmsnwbvh.jpg

Bringing some tidbits for the Jehai tribe’s children is highly recommended as a courtesy and token of friendship, but it is not compulsory.

 photo received_10210022061123045_zpsizxjxme8.jpeg

A boatman is needed to reach this place so do make arrangement with your tour guide/boathouse captain or resort should you want to visit Kg. Aman Damai.

4. Visit salt lick area in Sira Papan

 photo received_10210022035362401_zpsqiyn23yz.jpeg

A naturalist and loves all things the flora and fauna could offer you? Well, take it a notch higher and head over to the salt lick area in Sira Papan.

 photo received_10210022042762586_zpskzl8bzow.jpeg

If you are lucky, you might be able to see some wildlife like deers or mousedeers licking salt.

 photo received_10210022035402402_zpsberjsp5z.jpeg

But if you are not very lucky, you’ll get to see just the insects and bugs.

 photo received_10210022048122720_zpsjwonqzgm.jpeg

Granted, there are tiger sightings in the salt lick areas too, so whatever you do, follow your guide’s instruction obediently and don’t make loud noises during your excursion.

5. Visit the Sungai Ruok Fish Sanctuary and swim at Ruok Waterfall’s deep pool.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491561003613_zpsv9yfevhy.jpg

Another major attraction for eco-tourists in Royal Belum Rainforest is the Sungai Ruok Fish Sanctuary and the Sungai Ruok’s Waterfall deep pool.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491561066536_zpsyzlsi2fj.jpg

There’s a small stream in Sungai Ruok that is a sanctuary for fishes. You can see shoals of fishes like kelah and whatnot swimming around over here. Fishing is absolutely prohibited but feeding and swimming with the fishes? No problem. You may go ahead and do just that. The fishes are used to human’s visit, so they are quite friendly and usually will happily surround you whenever you take a dip in the water.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491561035646_zpsuz9ynhym.jpg

Sungai Ruok Waterfall on the other hand offers refreshing deep pool for you to swim in.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491561372702_zpsq6pl9fto.jpg

The Ruok Waterfall’s natural pool is more than 3 metres deep, so swimming without life jacket over here is strictly prohibited.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491561445801_zpsaa34vtwt.jpg

So if you plan to swim over here, do make sure that you are well equipped with lifejackets at all times.

 photo PhotoGrid_1491561170959_zpstqukz5h4.jpg

Most boathouses, boatmen and resorts in Royal Belum Rainforest offers a day trip excursion to Sungai Ruok Fish Sanctuary and Waterfall, so do make enquiries should you want to visit this place.

6. Bamboo rafting in Tasik Banding

 photo BeautyPlus_20170405150913_save_zps06hhxlhl.jpg

If you are the adventurous lot, another highly recommended thing that you can do while you are in Royal Belum Rainforest is bamboo rafting in the Tasik Banding. Plenty of tour operators offers a package with the bamboo rafting activities, so check it out. It would be an interesting experience. And don’t worry about the waves or anything. Tasik Banding is a very calm place. Unless it rains, nothing is going to rock your boats, in this case, bamboo rafts, of course.

7. Swimming in Tasik Banding

 photo BeautyPlus_20170405152028_save_zps3dkka489.jpg

Apart from bamboo rafting in Tasik Banding, you can also have a swim over there. With lifejacket intact, of course. Swimming is allowed in Tasik Banding, but strictly with lifejacket on.

 photo BeautyPlus_20170405151028_save_zpswvmfamtf.jpg

As mention earlier, the lake is not wavy and therefore no current will sweep you away. But do take precaution not to swim too far away from your boat or houseboat should you decide to jump in.

8. Enjoy the sunrise

 photo 20170326_072322_zpsvh5yjlgf.jpg

Wake up early and enjoy the beautiful colours the dawn will bring. It is always very picturesque during sunrise in Royal Belum Rainforest.

9. Enjoy the sunset

 photo DSCN0221_zpst71cyb7a_edit_1491020263417_zpsxnog4qyq.jpg

Dusk in Royal Belum Rainforest is always instagram-worthy, so if you are located where you can see the sunset during your stay in Royal Belum Rainforest, do make sure you capture the serenity with your camera lense.

10. Fishing

 photo FB_IMG_1492707233494_zpsyu36so8m.jpg

Fishing is allowed in Royal Belum Rainforest; specifically, fishing in Tasik Banding is allowed, but a permit of RM5 per fishing rod is required before you enter Royal Belum Rainforest.

 photo FB_IMG_1492707238339_zpsllbmuhut.jpg

If you are into fishing, you’d be pleased to discover that there’s plenty of exotic and rare fishes in the lake. All you need is a fishing rod, a good bait and a whole lot of patience.

Royal Belum Rainforest can be likened like a treasure trove, especially for adventurers and environmentalists, but remember, every single thing that is residing in Royal Belum Rainforest plays an important part of the ecosystem, so if you ever go to Royal Belum Rainforest, take nothing but the memories and leave nothing but footprints behind.

512 Studio Theme Photoshoot: Japan Sakura

For those who knew me since 5 years back, you would probably know that I used to be someone who just worked behind the scenes. I lay low and never exactly made myself known. I used to be camera shy to the point that hide away from it whenever it is pointed towards me, but these days, not anymore. I have come to realize that regardless of how I try to guard my privacy, people will still hunt me down, and since I’m no longer given privilege for privacy, I decided to just revel in all the glamour or unglamourous things that exposing myself has to offer. After all, life is an adventure and what’s abit of danger?

As I’ve reiterate earlier, I worked behind the scene most of the time although I am no longer anonymous. I’m a writer, and occassionally a photographer as well. Being a foodie and traveler, I take photos of food and my travels mostly, and of course, I do coverage for events and news. I write okay (I hope), and I am a mediocre photographer who aspire to be a good one.

I’ve worked with plenty of photographers. Behind the lense as a photographer myself, and in front of the lense as a model. I am 33 years old as of writing. I have done quite a few modeling job since I turned 30. At first it was just for fun and something I enjoyed, but I come to realize that you can learn quite a few things as a model, something you don’t really get to learn when you are behind the lense. As a photographer, I am in charge of the scene and the situation before me, but as a model, I have to relinguish control and listen to instructions and assert patience, something that is really difficult for me as I’m usually in charge of things, not the other way around.

A question. What makes a great photographer? I used to think that a good photographer is someone who take wonderful pictures or someone who captures beautiful portraits. And on a personal level, I aspire to produce perfect pictures myself. But after being a model myself, I come to realize that a good photographer is easy to come by but great one who not only captures the essense of their subjects well but treat them with respect and compassion as well is really hard to come by.

I’ve had misfortune of working with nasty photographers who lacks patience and tells me off about the way I pose and I should do better next time even when I am not their model. But lucky me, my most recent modeling experience at 512 Studio during Sakura Theme Photoshoot was a rather pleasant one. Aside from Adam, my husband who is also a photographer, I’ve had privilege to work with Dylan Yap and How. Both are not just good phorographer, but great ones. They are not only creative and versatile in directing but very patient, kind and considerate as well. I would work with them again in a heartbeat, given the opportunity.

Here’s sharing with you their masterpieces:

Dylan has captured the feminine side of me. Not an easy feat as I’m not exactly someone who is all graceful. I can do fierce, and occassionally cute, yes. But never these kind of pose that’s full of gentleness. He made me feel and look like a Hime-sama, or in English, a Japanese Princess both during and after the photoshoot. Dylan Yap is easy to work with and if you are looking for a photographer who produce romantic pictures, then he is the one you should look for.

As a Photographer, How has captured me as an enigma and someone mysterious. He is not afraid of breaking the norm and is very creative in directing his model. He is someone you might want to look for should you want to shoot something that is out of the box and if you are not afraid of being challenged to do something new.

When it comes to posing, I’m of course more comfortable with Adam, as our relationship is not just a photographer and a model but husband and wife. However, as comfortable as I am posing for him, he is a tough taskmaster and quite a challenge to work with. Regardless, if I were to comment on his work, I’d say he sometimes prefers peculiar, not your usual portrait shooting kinda thing. Here, he captured me as a warrior beneath the surface of a gentle woman. And I think I quite like the outcome of the photos that he took during our Sakura photoshoot session at 512 Studio.

All of these photos are very individual. Each photpgraphers have their own style of capturing the picture of their subject and their own way of working. I certainly learned alot from this session. Hopefully, this will not be the last session with all three of them.

All of these pictures were taken at 512 Studio. They have plenty of themes studio themes for rent. Should you are interested in renting the studio for photoshoot or videoshoot whatsover, please contact 512 Studio HERE for the rental rates and information.

Ps: My makeup was done by Ms.Osa Lim. If you think I look good in all these pictures, please compliment Ms.Osa and all my photographers. They worked really hard to make me look pretty.

Brooklyn Day Out at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting

I’m not good at a lot of things. I’m terrible at cooking and I’m lucky if whatever I churned out from my kitchen is even edible. I’m bad at singing. I’m not blessed with the voice of a songbird and people usually cringe when I sing-along to some of my favourite songs. I am also bad at dancing and I can barely move to the tune that I’m dancing to. Life is so unfair, no? Some people are gifted at everything. They are almost a domestic goddess who can cook a feast, can sing like a star and can dance like Micheal Jackson. But life is never fair, and you have to make most out of it. I may not be blessed with the talents for all these things, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy doing all the things I’m not good at.

I have a pension for good food and good music and I take every chance I have to enjoy them everyday. And speaking of good food and good music, I’ve literally let my hair down at Brooklyn Day Out recently in Resorts World Genting.

image

Brooklyn Day Out is a Brooklyn inspired music festival that was held in SkyAvenue to celebrate the launch of Brooklyn-born Motorino, the home to one of the best Neapolitan pizzas. You may read more about what Motorino has to offer HERE and if you are interested about the man behind Motorino, you can hop over HERE. Now, let me be frank with you; I have never attended any music festival. This one was my first ever and I did not know what to expect in the beginning, but I’m glad I accepted the invitation to Brooklyn Day Out as my family and I had so much fun over there during the festival.

image

Yours truly, all hyped out at the entrance of Brooklyn Day Out in SkyAvenue

image

Getting excited at Brooklyn Day Out

image

Plenty of fun stuff in store for us throughout the day.

image

Food stalls aplenty at Brooklyn Day Out

image

Free flow of popcorns and cottom candies for everyone at Brooklyn Day Out.

image

Plenty of pizzas from Motorino for everyone to enjoy.

image

Chicken meatballs from Motorino that had people go crazy for them throughout the day. I was too engrossed in my pizzas to go and queue up for these, however.

image

Here’s what we had during Brooklyn Day Out; some sparkling juices, roasted chicken and a whole Amatriciana Pizza from Motorino.

image

Picnic fun with friends at Brooklyn Day Out

image

Apart from the delicious food offerings at Brooklyn Day Out, there’s plenty of fun activities too. Here’s the free caricature booth where visitors could get their caricature done.

image

And what’s a festival without photobooth fun? There were plenty of props for us to choose from

image

Here’s us, getting our props before taking a few shots at the photobooth.

image

Here’s a one for the album

image

No music festival could be a success without upbeat music all day long and Brooklyn Day Out certainly did not lack good music throughout the day.

image

And here’s me, having dancing fun with my husband and son during Brooklyn Day Out. I’ve never been a reserved person when it comes to things like this, and therefore, I danced with abandon that day and have it my way, this will not be the last music festival that I attend.

Brooklyn Day Out at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting

A Brooklyn inspired music festival to commemorate the opening of Motorino SkyAvenue in Resorts World Genting, Malaysia

Check out the video I made for our weekend fun day out.

I may not be good at singing and dancing. But I have always enjoyed doing these two things. Why stop enjoying doing things that you are not good at just because you don’t live up to the society’s judgmental standards? You only live once and you should make every breath that you take counts. Life is too short to care too much about people who does not matter.

Beautiful Island Escapade: Glass Bottom Boat Ride in Tioman

After our snorkeling and kayak-ing session in Renggis Island, Tioman, my family and I embarked on a yet another fun adventure before returning to our chalet in Berjaya Tioman Resort.

We hopped onto a Glass Bottom boat and cruise around in Renggis Island towards the sunset.

The Glass Bottom boat is usually used to cater to people who wants to see what the underwater world has to offer but does not want to get wet.

And here’s what we managed to see during our short trip to the sea. The Glass Bottom Boat showcases the marine life that naturally inhabits Tioman. Colourful fishes and corals can be seen clearly through the looking glass.

Apart of of the marine life, we also get to see beautiful Renggis Island closely.

And was treated to a beautiful sunset

Beautiful underwater view in Renggis

Here’s a video of our Glass Bottom boat ride.

Seasports like snorkeling, diving and kayak-ing in Tioman Island can be a little daunting for travelers who are not really adventurous or with little children in tow and therefore I highly recommend the Glass Bottom Boat ride to those who wants to enjoy a leisurely cruise with a beautiful view in Tioman.

Beautiful Island Escapade: Snorkeling in Renggis Island, Malaysia

The seaweed is always greener,
In somebody else’s lake,
You dream about going up there,
But that is a big mistake,
Just look at the world around you,
Right here on the ocean floor,
Such wonderful things surround you,
What more is you lookin’ for?

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it’s better
Down where it’s wetter
Take it from me

Yes indeed. Quoting the song ‘Under the Sea’ from Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, such wonderful things surrounding us in Malaysia, what else are we looking for? It saddens me each time fellow Malaysians glorify places of interest that is not in Malaysia when Malaysia have so much to offer to the world, especially its pristine, sandy beaches.

I grew up watching Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ and used to fantasize that I’m Ariel, the lovely mermaid princess. Having influenced by the movie and growing up by the beach in Penang, I learned how to swim but never once imagined that one day, I’ll be given a chance to actually be a mermaid for a little moment. It was beyond my imagination that one day, I’ll be snorkeling and witnessing the beauty the underwater world could offer.

During my trip to Tioman Island for Tioman Island Clean Up Day 2016 at Berjaya Tioman Resort, my family and I were taken for a little snorkeling trip in Renggis Island, a small forest clad island in Tioman, and is situated right in front of the boat jetty for Berjaya Tioman Resort.

Renggis Island. This place is one of the best spots in Malaysia to snorkel and enjoy the beautiful marine life first hand.

This island is a permanent home to large coral reefs that have given sanctuary to wide diversity of marine life.

The marine life that surrounds Renggis Island is not known to be aggressive but very friendly towards divers and snorkelers. I was told that there is no danger of fast and high water currents and you do not need any heavy equipment or gear to snorkel and can easily stay put in the water as long as you want.

It was my first snorkeling experience. Both my husband and son were in tow. And having no actual experience swimming in deep places where my feet does not touch the sea floor was a little bit nerve wrecking.

Yes. To be honest, I was a little bit nervous in the beginning to actually make that jump. What more both my husband and son can’t swim and were practically fishes out of water, even in the swimming pools.

But I jumped into the water from the boat anyway. Here’s my friend Jerry and me.

Underwater selfie. Being a first timer, it took me a little while to get used to the strange environment, but once I dip my head underwater, I was immediately enchanted with my surroundings.

The underwater view was absolutely amazing.

First time snorkeling experience

It is nothing like what I’ve seen in aquarium tanks.

 photo FHD0029_zpsq5jszus8.jpg

It felt like a dream, so I started swinging my hands around and started snorkeling.

 photo FHD0015_zpspqtojren.jpg

A school of little fishes got curious I guess, and some surrounded me for a little while before swimming away. While my son got nervous with the small fishes and decides that they were too scary for him and headed back to the boat to entertain the idea that he had just saw a shark swimming by, the idea of sharks swimming it doesn’t freak me out, though. I actually felt like a mermaid and I couldn’t get enough of snorkeling and went further to enjoy what the mysterious ocean has to offer me.

How can you not fall in love with these?

Underwater View in Renggis Island

Just watch the video. It’s absolutely breathtaking. After my first time seeing the beauty that the underwater world have to offer, I knew that once is not going to be enough and I finally understood why people make efforts to be certified divers. I will have to do it again soon. And longer and deeper into the sea next time around.

Here’s one for the album, on the boat after our snorkeling trip. Words can do no justice for what I’ve seen and experienced. You’d have to see it with your own eyes, so yes, if you are ever in Tioman Island, do give snorkeling a go. The dive centre in Berjaya Tioman Island Resort has instructors who will instruct you if you are a first timer, so fret not, and just jump into the water.

Beautiful Island Escapade: Kayak-ing in Renggis Island, Malaysia

If you would like to experience the beautiful underwater view during your stay in Tioman Island but swimming and snorkeling in the deep blue sea somewhat makes you feel nervous, you can always go for kayak-ing instead.

 photo FHD0070_zpswx5vj6ft.jpg

Kayak is a small, narrow boat which is propelled by means of a double-bladed paddle. Traditional kayak has a covered deck and one or more cockpits, each seating one paddler. But the one I used only have one open cockpit and was pretty much modern in design.

 photo FHD0088_zpskqrmzsff.jpg

That’s me. Kayak-ing towards the sunset in Renggis Island, Tioman with my husband and friends tagging close behind.

Kayak-ing to Renggis Island

Personally, I prefer snorkeling more than kayak-ing. Snorkeling makes me feel that I’m part of the underwater kingdom while kayak-ing makes me feel, well, just human and it is definitely more tiring than snorkeling as pedaling takes up much more energy than floating around while you snorkel.

 photo FHD0136_zpssjydo50u.jpg

Pedaling and navigating the kayak is much more difficult than swimming. I was so scared that I will drop the pedal, but luckily for me, I didn’t.

 photo FHD0073_zps0lnht4us.jpg

Kayak-ing is great for non-swimmers who wants to to enjoy being close to the marine life, though. It is another must do thing when you are in Tioman Island. But still, kayak-ing has it’s charm. Both my husband and son seems to enjoy kayak-ing more than snorkeling. One great thing about kayak-ing is that you not only can enjoy the view underwater when you pedal the kayak in Tioman, but you can enjoy the abovewater view as well.

And here’s the sunset view from Renggis Island while we were kayak-ing. Magnificent, don’t you think?

I was really bad at navigating my kayak. Hence, I did not enjoy it as much as I did snorkeling. I ended up with a nasty cramp on my arms after that but it was an amazing experience nevertheless. Will I do again? Well, yes. But perhaps, next time around I’d take the one with double pedals where I can have someone else share the pedalling load with me.

Wanna experience this yourselves but have no clue on how to pedal and navigate the kayak? Fret not. The dive centre in Berjaya Tioman Island Resort has instructors who will instruct you if you are a first timer, so if you are ever there, just give this a go.
