Ramadan Al Mubarak

This world is full of contradictions. This year, Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month coincide with The Hungry Ghosts Festival. The Muslim believes that during the fasting month, the gate of Hell will be shut and all Evil will be chained and shackled, and they are not able to roam about to do evil on the face of the Earth. That means, there will be no Evil out there to tempt the humankind to do good deeds and all that is left to seduce the human is their own lust and greed.

The superstitious Chinese, on the other hand, believes that during the Hungry Ghosts Festival, the gate of Hell is open, and all Evil and spirits of the dead will be set free for some sort of a vacation.

Contradictions, contradictions… the two month clashed with each other this year. So… which one is real? The ghosts and evil spirits are roaming about? Or the ghosts and evil spirits are locked up in Hell? I don’t know. I am skeptical to both and I am not going to say anything disrespectful to both believers.

I’m not the kind of people who go around condemning what others believe and how they practice their religion. As horrible as I am, I am above insulting people’s religious believe. I even try not to eat in front of Muslim friends during the period of the fasting month. It made me feel guilty if I did that.

Anyway, here’s wishing all Muslim a happy fasting month and a blessed month ahead.

Cleffairy: If you want people to respect your religious beliefs you got to first respect their religious beliefs. Don’t go around discriminating people just because they believe in different God as you are, and practices different way of life from you.

Is to be Malaysian

Malaysia is a very unique place. And so are their people. I’ll tell you why:

1. This is a country where the innocents are declared guilty until they’re proven innocent.

2. Not many of their politicians are straight.

3. You can sleep on the job and never get sack as long as you’re in a high position.

4. Petrol price can be raised within a few moments notice.

5. Malaysians are very visual kind of people. Bimbos are treated like goddess, and many prefer beauties rather than brains. So yeah… big boobs and pretty face are the in things.

6. Intellectual conversation are usually limited to tea/mamak-ing session. However, most of the people who spoke intelligently are members of NATO. Anyway, that’s good enough. Most Malaysians don’t like to think and prefers to live in denial and have this ‘wait and see’ attitude.

7. Typical Malaysians are usually forgetful. If you’ve done something bad and wanted people to forget about your dirty deeds, all you need to do is just sue, sue and sue. People will start to loose interest in your sins and looks for something else to talk about.

8. Office politics aplenty. You wanna get a raise? Raise up your skirt and unbutton your shirt a lil bit. You ought to be in luck.

9. The parliament is a dwelling of rude, obnoxious people who hurl insult each other and pat their buttocks, and yet, they expect the brats in school to behave.

10. The mainstream newspaper is as good as tabloid. Who needs to pay for porn and gossip mags when there’s Malaysian newspaper?

11. There’s the Malaysia Boleh attitude. Malaysian can do a lot of amazing thing… largest blogger gathering, biggest roti canai, sail around the world…but they can never stay in the office past 5.01pm without incentives. Malaysia Boleh? Yes, Boleh Blah!

12. Mamak and kopitiam is their best friend.

13. There’s many wannabes in Malaysia. The most apparent ones are Westerners wannabes. They dye their hair blond, bleach their skin, and God knows what else. *sigh* Is this what they call the belacan who dreams to be cheese? LOL…

14. A lot of things can be settled through coffees…. or teas… or Starbucks.

15. Most of the people in Malaysia lives to eat, not eat to live.

16. Not many respect the national anthem. Play the national anthem, and you can see most will yak away, though they’re in a place where they can stand in attention. And not many know what the heck is Federal Constitution and all it’s frameworks.

17. The people are full of contradiction. They claim that God is Supreme… and yet…well, you get the picture. Not many are humbled with this fact, and people are still classified through their skin colours.

18. You can actually get sued for enjoying sex. There is no such thing as privacy.

19. Good people are often misunderstood, and the bad ones are usually hailed.

20. Most appear to be polite and gentle. But they are malicious while driving and have extremely impressive vocabs when they’re on the road.

21. Many claimed to be patriotic, but during football season, most would yell ‘Man U!’, ‘Chelsea’, ‘Liverpool!’ and God knows what else.

22. As long as you know how to make ‘roti canai’, you can do business anywhere.

23. Nasi lemak can be eaten all day long.

24. There’s always freedom of speech. But there’s no freedom after speech.

25. ISPs are like God…they can treat us rotten and provide shitty Internet connection, and yet we’ll still be devoted to them regardless.

26. Double standards is everywhere. Teachers are allowed to reveal about their sex life in public, and yet the students are expected to abstain themselves from sex and pornography.

27. Parents are expected to forgive the police if their kids were accidentally shot by mistake.

28. Wild animals are not only confined to zoos…

29. Politicians are at the humblest and the sweetest during elections.

30. Malaysians tend to try to translate every single thing into their language. Oh, help me God!

And last but not least

It’s this…

Malaysians needs to apply license to sell rice, sugar and many other foodstuff.

Cleffairy: Is to be… Malaysian… this laaaannnddd…. so beautiffffffuuulll~

Linkbuilding

This is a paid post written on the behalf of www.linkbuilding.org. Link Building could be one of the cleverest pieces of marketing you do – it’s low cost, highly effective at driving traffic and it can have a dramatic effect on your search engine ranking. Links are one of the most popular ways for people to find new sites and so the more quality sites that link to you the better.

Not many may want to link to your blog or your sites, but you can always outsource link building. In other words, you can buy links.

Anyway, finding quality sites to target is at the heart of any effective linking strategy. ‘Quality sites’ are not the ones that are easiest to get links from but those that will drive most relevant traffic to your site.

To find quality sites, you’ve got to do methodical research before you start – lots of it.

So here are six powerful ways to identify quality sites:

1. Mine your referrer logs

Check your referrer logs every day (if you don’t know how check with your ISP). Cut and paste that day’s referring websites into an Excel spreadsheet, then review once a month. Take the sites that refer most traffic and do a backwards link search looking for similar sites that you could also approach.

2. Find out who links to your competitors

Logic says that if sites link to your competitors, they could also link to you. This is a good start. But don’t stop at just sending ‘me-too’ link requests. Look carefully at the sites that link to your competitors. What market sectors do they come from? Are there any surprises? Is there a niche market that you haven’t thought about. Again for every useful site do a backwards link search.

3. Drill down through directories

Start with DMOZ, Yahoo and Looksmart. Look specifically for information sites or industry specific directories. Be comprehensive and explore as many relevant categories as you can.

4. Scan the Blogs

Search engines love blogs because they are full of fresh content and extensive links. They’re useful for linking because:

* Blogs are great pointers to useful interesting sites

* When you make a comment, you often get a link back to your site

* You get a feel for the real news of the day.

One of the best places to look is DayPop.com, https://www.daypop.com which is a specialized search engine that crawls more than 59,000 news sites, weblogs and RSS feeds at least once a day (and some once every 3 hours). You can find more blog search engines in The Search Engine Journal.

5. Look for ezines

Great ezines generally provide more in-depth content than blogs and are published less often. I’ve yet to find an ezine directory that I’m entirely happy with but you could try https://www.cumuli.com/ezines/ or www.ezinedepot.net. Usually, I’ll just do a Google search. If I’m looking for ezines on photography, I’ll just enter the search term, ‘photography ezines’.

6. Cultivate Journalists

Get to know the traditional media in your market sector and watch what they do online. Start to keep a record of key journalists and the type of stories they cover. Do some searches on Google News – and note the latest news in your industry. If you find this useful, sign-up for Google’s news alert service.

This methodical approach takes time but results in a long list of highly relevant link targets and an important overview of your market online.

Now you’ve got the list, go get the links. Or better still, buy the links from www.linkbuilding.org. They have the lowest and most affordable rate around.

Eco-friendly bags

Bag It, Don’t Bin It

You see, before I got to know Smallkucing, I never really gave reusable bags a thought.

That’s because I’m quite a litterbug and don’t quite give a damn about the environment. Shame on me. I’m the kind who fancies disposable stuff, because they’re hassle-free.

Eco-friendly bags were never in my dictionary until I get to know Smallkucing. He taught me that we’re never too young, or too old to do our part in conserving our environment and go green.

I’ve started to use these reusable bags since I got to know Smallkucing and his Mamarazzi. Like him, I now shop in style with my various colourful shopping bags. Talk about vanity. LOL. Don’t you think he looks cute modeling those bags? Suits him well, right? 😀

Anyway, here’s some tips on how to reduce plastic and paper bag consumption:

1. Start using reusable shopping bags. Find the right styles and designs to suit your taste and lifestyle.

2. Reuse plastic bags you have accumulated as garbage liners.

3. Start using Ultra Compact bags. Ultra Compact bags are small enough to stash in your purse, jacket, backpack, car, etc. Having one is always handy.

4. Spread the word to create awareness. Blog about it.

5. Cut down on plastic produce bags by bringing your own reusable produce bags when you shop.

Everyone should do their part in conserving the environment. Using eco-friendly bags is a good way to conserve the environment too. 😀 Let’s do our part.

Remember Captain Planet? Well, that guys says don’t pollute, and the power is in our hands. So stop polluting! Let’s take pollution down to zero!

Cleffairy: Sing along now!

“EARTH!”
“FIRE!”
“WIND!”
“WATER!”
“HEART!”

“Go Planet!”

“By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!”

Captain Planet, he’s our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

He’s our powers magnified
And he’s fighting on the planet’s side

Captain Planet, he’s our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

Gonna help him put asunder
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder

“You’ll pay for this Captain Planet!”

We’re the Planeteers
You can be one too
‘Cause saving our planet is the thing to do!

Looting and polluting is not the way
Hear what Captain Planet has to say!

“The Power is Yours!”

ps: Smallkucing and his Mamarazzi gave me the permission to use his photos. LOL…Please don’t steal it, okay? They’re not mine. If you wanna use them, please contact Smallkucing’s Mamarazzi at Smallkucing’s Blog.

Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome

I found this interesting article the other day after researching about attention whore and Munchausen syndrome, and it somewhat horrifies me. I never knew that there’s actually such a thing, so I thought  I’d share it with all of you over here.Take a look.

Munchausen by proxy syndrome (MBPS) is a relatively uncommon condition that involves the exaggeration or fabrication of illnesses or symptoms by a primary caretaker. One of the most harmful forms of child abuse, MBPS was named after Baron von Munchausen, an 18th-century German dignitary known for telling outlandish stories.

About MBPS

In MBPS, an individual — usually a mother — deliberately makes another person (most often his or her own preschool child) sick or convinces others that the person is sick. The parent or caregiver misleads others into thinking that the child has medical problems by lying and reporting fictitious episodes. He or she may exaggerate, fabricate, or induce symptoms. As a result, doctors usually order test, try different types of medications, and may even hospitalize the child or perform surgery to determine the cause.

Typically, the perpetrator feels satisfied by gaining the attention and sympathy of doctors, nurses, and others who come into contact with him or her and the child. Some experts believe that it isn’t just the attention that’s gained from the “illness” of the child that drives this behavior, but also the satisfaction in being able to deceive individuals that they consider to be more important and powerful than themselves.

Because the parent or caregiver appears to be so caring and attentive, often no one suspects any wrongdoing. A perplexing aspect of the syndrome is the ability of the parent or caregiver to fool and manipulate doctors. Frequently, the perpetrator is familiar with the medical profession and is very good at fooling the doctors. Even the most experienced doctors can miss the meaning of the inconsistencies in the child’s symptoms. It’s not unusual for medical personnel to overlook the possibility of MBPS because it goes against the belief that a parent or caregiver would never deliberately hurt his or her child.

Children who are subjected to MBPS are typically preschool age, although there have been reported cases in kids up to 16 years old, and there are equal numbers of boys and girls. About 98% of the perpetrators are female.

Diagnosing MBPS

Diagnosis is very difficult, but would involve some of the following:

  • a child who has multiple medical problems that don’t respond to treatment or that follow a persistent and puzzling course
  • physical or laboratory findings that are highly unusual, don’t correspond with the child’s medical history, or are physically or clinically impossible
  • short-term symptoms that tend to stop when the perpetrator isn’t around
  • a parent or caregiver who isn’t reassured by “good news” when test results find no medical problems, but continues to believe that the child is ill
  • a parent or caregiver who appears to be medically knowledgeable or fascinated with medical details or appears to enjoy the hospital environment
  • a parent or caregiver who’s unusually calm in the face of serious difficulties with the child’s health
  • a parent or caregiver who’s highly supportive and encouraging of the doctor, or one who is angry and demands further intervention, more procedures, second opinions, or transfers to more sophisticated facilities

Causes of MBPS

In some cases, the parents or caregivers themselves were abused, both physically and sexually, as children. They may have come from families in which being sick was a way to get love. The parent’s or caregiver’s own personal needs overcome his or her ability to see the child as a person with feelings and rights, possibly because the parent or caregiver may have grown up being treated like he or she wasn’t a person with rights or feelings.

Other theories say that Munchausen by proxy syndrome is a cry for help on the part of the parent or caregiver, who may be experiencing anxiety or depression or have feelings of inadequacy as a parent or caregiver of a young child. Some may feel a sense of acknowledgement when the doctor confirms their caregiving skills. Or, the parent or caregiver may just enjoy the attention that the sick child — and, therefore, he or she — gets.

The suspected person may also have symptoms similar to the child’s own medical problems or an illness history that’s puzzling and unusual. He or she frequently has an emotionally distant relationship with a spouse, who often fails to visit the seriously ill child or have contact with doctors.

What Happens to the Child?

In the most severe instances, parents or caregivers with MBPS may go to great lengths to make their children sick. When cameras were placed in some children’s hospital rooms, some perpetrators were filmed switching medications, injecting kids with urine to cause an infection, or placing drops of blood in urine specimens.

Some perpetrators aggravate an existing problem, such as manipulating a wound so that it doesn’t heal. One parent discovered that scrubbing the child’s skin with oven cleaner would cause a baffling, long-lasting rash.

Whatever the course, the child’s symptoms — whether created or faked — don’t happen when the parent isn’t present, and they usually go away during periods of separation from the parent. When confronted, the parent usually denies knowing how the illness occurred.

According to experts, common conditions and symptoms that are created or faked by parents or caregivers with MBPS include: failure to thrive, allergies, asthma, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and infections.

The long-term prognosis for these children depends on the degree of damage created by the perpetrator and the amount of time it takes to recognize and diagnose MBPS. Some extreme cases have been reported in which children developed destructive skeletal changes, limps, mental retardation, brain damage, and blindness from symptoms caused by the parent or caregiver. Often, these children require multiple surgeries, each with the risk for future medical problems.

If the child lives to be old enough to comprehend what’s happening, the psychological damage can be significant. The child may come to feel that he or she will only be loved when ill and may, therefore, help the parent try to deceive doctors, using self-abuse to avoid being abandoned. And so, some victims of MBPS later become perpetrators themselves.

Getting Help for the Child

If Munchausen by proxy syndrome is suspected, health care providers are required by law to report their concerns. However, after a parent or caregiver is charged, the child’s symptoms may increase as the person who is accused attempts to prove the presence of the illness. If the parent or caregiver repeatedly denies the charges, the child should be removed from the home and legal action should be taken on the child’s behalf.

In some cases, the parent or caregiver may deny the charges and move to another location, only to continue the behavior. Even if the child is returned to the perpetrator’s custody while protective services are still involved, the child may continue to be a victim of abuse. For these reasons, it’s always advised that these cases be resolved quickly.

Getting Help for the Parent or Caregiver

Most often, abusive Munchausen by proxy syndrome cases are resolved in one of three ways:

  1. the perpetrator is apprehended
  2. the perpetrator moves on to a younger child when the original victim gets old enough to “tell”
  3. the child dies

To get help, the parent or caregiver must admit to the abuse and seek psychological treatment. But if the perpetrator doesn’t admit to the wrongdoing, psychological treatment has little chance of remedying the situation. Psychotherapy depends on truth, and MBPS perpetrators generally live in denial.

Cleffairy: This is a very, very weird world. If parents could be harmful to a child, who else can the child trust? Let’s pray for all the children in the world. May none be born to such parent. 🙁 I think it’s a much more horrible form of abuse, cuz it’s hard to recognize… 🙁

The Prophecy Answer Book by David Jeremiah

Page count: 256 pages, hardcover

Author: David Jeremiah

Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers

Thomas Nelson Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book as part of their BookSneeze.com bloggers book review program. I was not required to write a positive review, and therefore, the review is 100% my honest opinion.

It’s said that the bible is full of codes. And this book is just about that. The codes in the Holy Bible, and the explanation for the events that has been prophesied in the Bible.

Prophecy Answer book explain the prophecy puzzles in plain, simple language. And it can be understood easily. There are 1,000 prophecies in the Bible so it’s natural to wonder, have any prophecies been fulfilled?

Do they really predict the future? And can we really know what will happen at the end of time? When will Armageddon be?

Dr. Jeremiah decodes and clarifies prophecy for the average person. He explains in simple terms what could otherwise be mysterious and even frightening, allowing readers to gain a balanced understanding and assuring perspective of the significance of prophetic events to their personal lives as believers in Christ. This book too, explain how the modern events that occurred every now and then is related to the Holy Bible.

Now, I’ve always loved mysteries. In comparison to the previous book that I received from BookSneeze that’s such a bore, this one is hard to put down, and it made me understand the events that has been predicted in the Holy Bible even more.

This is one book that I would read over and over again and would not get bored. It’s almost like reading the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. The only difference here is that while Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code gives you mind boggling question that could undermine your faith, this book provided logical answers that will strengthen your faith instead.

And yes, I would definitely recommend this to those who doubts what the Holy Bible had predict, as the explanation really does make sense. My favourite chapter of the book is The New Heaven and The New Earth, and I would rate the book 4 out of 5. It’s a good, serious book to read.

Cleffairy: It is nice to have answers for a change.

I review for BookSneeze

Take back our country from right-wing tabloids

I attended an event last Sunday in conjunction of the Press Freedom Day, but I took no pictures because it was a forum/discussion for practicing and non-practicing journalists, and I was too engrossed ith the discussion to even snap any pictures. 😀 This is a rather outdated post, but please, allow me to share this with you:

The right-wing press, especially mainstream newspapers, are spreading lies, hate and thinly veiled racism to make people angry at their chosen scapegoats.

They…

  • Create mass hysteria about child abuse then claim children are allowed to run wild because teachers and parents aren’t allowed to control them – because they’d be accused of child abuse.
  • Misrepresent statistics to have the public under the illusion that everything is all right. Eg: Oil price, economical development.
  • Lie about political refugee and immigrants to stoke racial tensions that they claim immigration causes.
  • Use emotive language to spin articles to their agenda and write about alleged crimes as if they are guilty until proven innocent.
  • Use emotive language to stoke racial tension.
  • Claim to be environmental but side with big business that undermines the Mother Nature.
  • Being politically biased, and reported lies instead of truth, just because they’re under pressure.
  • Etcetera.

What could we do to make the public see this?

For years cigarette packets have come with health warnings, it’s about time some of the local mainstream newspaper came with similar warnings.

You can print these out onto A4 self-adhesive label sheets (available from your local stationers) to stick to the front of the newspaper in question and spread the word.

Sticker downloads

Cleffairy: The reason why I quit being a journalist is that I was forced to report lies. I worked in one of Malaysia favourite mainstream newspaper before, and yet, the newspaper body itself lacks quality and the editors were always under pressure from you-know-who. If I were to work for such newspaper, I’m better off working for a tabloid.
