The Making of Nasi Lemak 2.0

When you talk about Namewee, alot of people will think that’s he’s one rude chap as he excessively used vulgar words in his songs and whatnot. But the truth is far removed from reality. Namewee is not just an ordinary punk as he portrayed himself to be in public.

He’s just misunderstood as a lot of people tends to judge a book by it’s cover. I’ve met him before, and he’s nothing but a gentleman, and I must say, quite a shy feller. We’ve chatted for a while and not even one vulgar word was hurled at me, and I was really surprised. He’s in fact, a very polite young man and is very encouraging of aspiring artists and authors.

I came to understand that Namewee is also a patriot who wants nothing but a better Malaysia for the future generation (somehow on the twisted and darker side, though). He mentioned that as an artist, he feels that the only way he can reach out to the public about his visions is through his songs. It may not be well received by those who are prim and proper and those who supported the government, but well, at least he made his point, and to me, he’s much better than those who just know how to rant on various social media sites but at the end of the day, contributes nothing at all to the country. That sort of people, are just empty cans to me.

Some of you may and may not know that Namewee have been working hard on his first movie, Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Nasi Lemak 2.0. is a movie about a young chef, Chef Huang who is on a quest to find the best Nasi Lemak recipe. I have yet to watch the movie as it’ll only be released in September, but I can say it’s a multi-cultural based film where the main protagonist meet alot kind of people along the way in his quest /misadventure and learn the true meaning of unity and non-discrimination.

Interesting story with catchy soundtrack, really, and to think that the government had initially given him a red light just because he’s a controversial artist. Talk about stereotyping!

Due to the controversial issues faced by Namewee last September, the initial plan to complete Nasi Lemak 2.0 for 2010 came to a complete halt when the sponsors and investors decided to pull out from the project. Luckily for him, the Minister from the Prime Minister’s office, Dato Seri Nazri Aziz officially announced Namewee’s innocence after viewing his proposal and Nasi Lemak 2.0 movie trailer in Parliament at end of last year, they were able to revive the project again in 2011.

Artists line up for Nasi Lemak 2.0 is most impressive. There’s Adibah Noor, Dato’ David Arumugam, Karen Kong, Afdlin Shauki, Kenny & Chee, Reshmonu, Dennis Lau, Nur Fathia, Nadine Ann Thomas, Pete Teo, Ho Yuhang, Dian Sharlin, Felixia Yeap and many more famous celebrities, and most of them volunteered to act in Nasi Lemak 2.0 without asking for anything in return. Now, this is what I call unity.

You know what’s more amazing about Nasi Lemak 2.0? Well, despite of the low budget and various obstacles placed by the the ruling government in the beginning, the movie was completed within 6 month time. Amazing? Well to me it is amazing. Another amazing thing about this movie is that they only used DSLR camera to do the shooting. How about that? Talk about fully utilizing the DSLR camera.

Check out the pics below… it’s taken during the shooting of Nasi Lemak 2.0.

Namewee and Nasi Lemak 2.0 crew. Notice the camera? It’s not huge like those people usually use to produce movies. This one is just a DSLR camera. They just use DSLR camera cuz there’s budget restriction and they have to make do with what they have I was really surprised during the Press Conference. The quality of the movie was really good despite the fact that they did not use high end cameras for the shooting.

Local artistes who starred in Nasi Lemak 2.0. I can only recognize Adibah Noor and Karen Kong inside this picture, though. Adibah Noor is one of the most versatile artist in Malaysia. She’s not only an awesome singer, but her acting career have been pointing to the sky since she acted in the late Yasmin Ahmad movies. Adibah Noor plays Kak Noor who is the mysterious nasi lemak stall owner who holds the secret of the perfect nasi lemak in Nasi Lemak 2.0. Interesting enough, she’s also a tai-chi master in the movie.

One of the scenes in Nasi Lemak 2.0. Afdlin Shauki, Reshmonou and Namewee. Afdlin Shauki played a down to earth fisherman with four wives while Reshmonou played a historical hero who came to Chef Huang’s aid when he’s in trouble.

From left: Namewee, Afdlin and Reshmonou, having fun on the set.

Namewee and Karen Kong in Nasi Lemak 2.0. Karen Kong have an interesting history in the Malaysian entertainment industry. She’s the first Malaysian Chinese to debut with a full Malay album. She plays the heroine in this movie.

Namewee and Dato’ David Arumugam. Datuk David  Arumugam is widely recognized in Malaysia as the pioneer of championing the muhibbah spirit where his all-Indian band Alleycats was the first non-Malay band to be accepted and hugely popular in the Malay music industry. In Nasi Lemak 2.0, he plays Curry Master who taught Chef Huang (Namewee) about how understanding a good curry mix is vital to building a harmonious society in a multi-cultural country.

Dato’ David Arumugam is my childhood idol. I love his songs when I was a little girl.  My dad used to turn on his cassettes every now and then, and each time I look at him, I feel like singing his old songs. My all time favourite is “Jika Kau Bercinta Lagi”. Take a note on the picture above. Notice Namewee’s T-shirt? There’s a message in it. ‘Why can’t we all just get along?’. Indeed. Why can’t we all just get along?

I know most of you are not a fan of Namewee, but I think it’s fair if his artworks are viewed with an open mind, especially Nasi Lemak 2.0. At least this one is a multi-cultural film with tonns of unity message embedded inside. To me, it is way better than those cheap looking horror movies or those gangsters and mat rempit movies. Laying low…

I feel sick… and tired of the things that’s going around in my country lately. I mean, there’s so much bad news, and so much anger among my people right now in Malaysia.

I suppose some of my readers are wondering why I choose to zip up my mouth regarding the BERSIH issue despite the fact that I strongly support the freedom of expression and despite the fact that I am a voter and there’s nothing that I desire more than a clean and transparency in the coming General Election. For those who don’t know what BERSIH is… it’s a movement that supports clean and fair election-which is declared illegal by the current Malaysian ruling government *ooopsss, dictatorship much?*. ‘BERSIH’ is a word derived from Malaysian language, bearing the definition ‘clean’.

Well, this is why I’m laying low: I refuse to be a marionette on a string by feeling upset over issues that I do not intend to participate due to safety reason. What benefit do I get by getting all emotional about it? I feel that if I do not intend to participate in the rally to express myself, then I better keep my goddamn mouth shut and I shall do my part when the election comes: by voting, by exercising my rights as a voter.

I know a lot of people are expressing their frustrations over various social media websites and whatnot, but you know something? That is something coward-ish to me. True patriots won’t just talk and vent. They would do something much more than just vent around. They would do something that comes out with an actual result.

For those who are making so much goddamn noise over various social media… I won’t suggest you to stop, but I do hope that when the parliament has been dissolved and the times comes for you to vote, you’ll go and vote instead of merely making annoying noise. One vote could make a difference. If you do not like the current ruling government, then the General Election is the time for you to choose a better leader for a better Malaysia.

Cleffairy: Do you not know that empty cans makes most noise? And did you know that there are various ways to exercise your freedom of expression than merely venting your frustrations over social media countless times?

Prince William Divorces Kate Middleton After 5 Weeks

I just woke up and when I booted up my PC to check my email and my friends status updates on FB, I saw that both my email(s) and my FB account has been infested with this news:

Prince William Divorces Kate Middleton After 5 Weeks

‘I Made A Terrible Mistake’ Says Heir To British Throne

LONDON—Barely a month after marrying 29-year-old Kate Middleton in a royal wedding ceremony watched by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide, Prince William announced Tuesday that he and Middleton have divorced and that the entire marriage was “a tremendous mistake in every possible regard.” “I really don’t know what I was thinking—we’re a terrible match, I don’t love her and never have, and, to be honest, I never really had any interest in being married in the first place,” announced the now unattached Prince William to a dead-silent British press corps. “People thought our wedding was some sort of fairy tale, but I assure you it was all just some ghastly ceremonial farce that got out of hand. I’m just relieved it’s over, frankly. And I’m glad I’ll never have to see that awful woman again.” Prince William then told the assembled reporters, “Well, see you all later,” smiled, and walked back into Buckingham Palace.

____________________________________________________________

Now… I refrained from commenting on this issue via Facebook despite the fact that the ‘news’ was everywhere and everyone seems to be talking about this. Facebook, to me is not the place to discuss such issue as people tend to get overly emotional instead of being rational. People are practically cursing the Prince over this issue without bothering to check the validity of the news.

I could easily dismiss this as untrue and just another spam. Below is why:

  • First of of, if you’re familiar with the royal press conference protocol, you would know that the Duke of Cambridge (Prince William) will not be allowed to make such statements publicly. In any case of divorce among the royal family, a spokesperson would be the one delivering such messages to the public, just like the divorce between the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles back in the nineties.
  • If you’re familiar with divorce procedures in the UK, you would know that divorce are not easy to obtained. What more a royal one. It take years for a royal to divorce to finalize, even a no fault divorce  or one with mutual agreement like Fergie and Andrew’s divorce. (Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Sarah Margaret Ferguson)
  • There ought to be the announcement of ‘official separation’ before the announcement of the actual divorce.
  • The source of this news is doubtful. Absolutely doubtful. just take a look at that website. It’s infested with gossip and insignificant news. How can this source be trustworthy source of news and announcements?
  • I could be rolling my eyes off my eye-sockets at the picture that has been used for this news on this website. Did you or did you not notice the red ribbon that the Prince was wearing? The ribbon symbolizes AIDS awareness. The Prince do not make it a habit to wear AIDS awareness red ribbon to any press conference or event unless he is attending an event related to AIDS awareness campaigns. I’ve been searching around, and I was definitely not wrong in thinking that there’s no AIDS awareness campaign within this month or the past few weeks. The last AIDS global and AIDS awareness campaign is in March 2011. That was ages ago.

I don’t know what’s wrong with this world. People easily believe in untrue words and seems to take delights in gossiping. Rumours tends to be treated as true. And let’s just say… I’m giving the news a benefit of doubt ( WHICH I AM NOT, because if I want news regarding to the royal family, I would go to their official website here: https://www.royal.gov.uk).

Even if I do believe this news, I wouldn’t go around calling His Royal Highness a royal pain in the arse or an asshole for divorcing Kate. Why? Well, it takes two to tango. The world tends to blame the men when divorces happens, and almost never symphatize with the men. It’s always the men who are at fault. It’s as if the women are completely a victim.

I am a woman, but I do not think so. I think there’s always two side of the story and one ought to not just listen to one side of a story. Feminist ought to damn me, but truthfully, when it comes to love and war, nobody is right or wrong. Everyone have their own reasons and their own excuse, but in truth, nobody really have. Same goes with marriage. It doesn’t matter if the marriage is a high profile marriage or not. It’s the same.

And outsiders should not judge other people’s marriage or a relationship based on what they see on the outside. Outsiders do not know what transcends between the couple behind closed doors. What the outsiders know… is just word of the mouth from just one side of the party. So, how is it fair to say that the man is always the evil one? You cannot really say so, for truly, not all women are good and faultless. Some women are conniving and evil too, despite of their soft and pitiful outlook. Nobody… nobody should be given the rights to condemn the action of others, especially when it comes to relationship and marriage, for truly, outsiders are just bystanders.

Cleffairy: When in doubt, always seek second opinion, and always, always remember that there’s always two side of one same story.

Justice= Freedom + Peace?

May 1, 2011  the world’s most recent public enemy, Osama Bin Laden was pronounced dead by the US government.

Alot of people rejoice…the announcement is everywhere. On Facebook, Twitter, blogs, various media… people are rejoicing for the ultimate revenge against terrorism. They rejoiced because they think that justice has been served.

But then again, how can people actually think that justice has been served? Are you honestly that shallow?

His death does not change the fact that the world still lives in terror and is still plagued with many humanitarian issues. Yes. Osama and the Talibans are terrorist, but path that US took was evil too, for while they called for peace, they have done it with weapons in hand. How can you call that peace and justice? How can you rejoice at one man’s death when the fact is that his death changed nothing?

How can you say that with his death, justice is being served and the world would be a better place and a more peaceful place to live? His death does not bring back peace. His death does not bring the innocents back to life, and with his death, the world still have to live in terror of counter-attack by his followers? How can you say with his death, there’s justice, there’s closure, and there’s freedom and peace when the truth is there is none?

How can peace be justified by holding weapons and shooting at each other? How can one takes the life of others for vengeance and then someones gets revenge by taking his life. How is that kind of twisted thinking going to bring us peace, I wonder, for the cycle will go on and one and will never stop.

If you should kill someone’s husband in battle, then his wife will despise you for that. And if you were to kill someone’s son, then his mother will hate you for that as well. Is this not the truth of it all?

The chain…it would be unbreakable. It’s the chain of murder, or destruction, not of peace or justice or even freedom.

What actually happens in a war is that everyone has some kind of reason, but in truth, no one actually does. Ponder that.

You may say whatever you want regarding Osama’s death. But to me, his death doesn’t change the fact that the ones who had succumb in war is not exactly terrorists themselves, but the civilians.

Will the world be a more peaceful place with his death? No. His death changed nothing.

Osama Bin Laden was not the number 1 public enemy. We are our own public enemy for we allowed ourselves to hold weapons and shoot at each other each time we failed to come to an agreement. We are our own public enemy because we allowed such monstrosity to spread.

Cleffairy: Allow me to share a quote with you, “I will mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” ~Martin Luther King Jr

It does not change the fact that the world still lives in terror and is still plagued with many humanitarian issues. The path that US took was evil too, for while they called for peace, they have done it with weapons in hand. How can you call that peace and justice?

Ultraman? That is not the real issue…

I’m sure the public is enraged by Berita Harian’s insensitivity in publishing such an offensive caricature mocking the tsunami victims in Japan. Berita Harian has issued out public apology and retraction by now, I suppose. But what has been done, cannot be undone. That piece of publication has somehow provoked anger from Malaysians and people from all over the world.

First of all, I’d like to assure the world that this cartoon strip does not reflect Malaysian sentiments in general.

I would also like the world to know that this is just another one of those not so clever piece of publication used to divert Malaysian readers’ attention from the real issue that soon will be plaguing our country following the disasters that has devastate Japan.

I apologize to the world on Malaysian press’ behalf for their immature way of preventing mass panic regarding economic issues and the impending recession.

Same old, same old. Provoking emotional outburst by publishing something offensive or sensationalized. This is quite a common occurrence in Malaysia, truthfully. Usually sensitive issues like religious problems, scandals, and racial issues would be published in time of great disaster to avoid mass panic. And after the  desired ‘damages’ have been properly made, retraction and public apologies will be issued to appease the public anger.

Next up, political parties would join in and play ‘hero’ and condemns the newspaper in question too to gain popularity. Same goes with this ‘Ultraman running away from tsunami’ caricature case. It is just another tool used to divert people’s attention from bigger and more serious issues.

Amazing enough, Malaysians from every corner of the country will fall for the same old tricks over and over again and gets all worked up about it. Usually the mission to hide more serious issues will be accomplished when Malaysian thoughts and emotions are fully occupied with issues that’s much more close to home (religion, racial issue, etc, and in this case, insulting cartoon that demean us in the eyes of the world)

You see, Malaysian economy and agriculture is still not quite self-sufficient. We are still depending on developed countries to invest in us and whatnot. Suffice to say, when giant countries like Japan is economically crippled, it will affect our country. I suppose this is what ‘so and so’ trying to cover up by publishing offensive cartoons as well as bringing up the bibles issues and whatnot.

Wake up people…this is not the time to be upset about stupid caricature like this. That is just a waste of time. This is also not the time to think about our political and religious differences.

This is the time for us to be united. This is the time to extend our help in whatever way we can while facing global adversity. Monetary, medical aids, basic supplies, comfort, encouragements, prayers… anything. No help is too small when disaster struck.

Now is the time to help the survivors of disasters all around the world, and now is the time for healing, for rebuilding what’s lost. And now is the time to repent and learn what the disaster has taught us: When disasters strike, we’re all the same. We need to stick together in order to survive and make things better again. If we don’t stick together, there shall be no future for us.

Stop allowing people to poison our minds and incite our wrath and anger as now, the world does not need that. The world needs love, peace, and for people to be humble and human again.

Cleffairy: We are mortal, we are destructible. Why are we so keen on playing God? Even the mountains, sea and sky bows to His wills.

Find the way, for it is not His fault…

WARNING: Ramblings ahead. Read at your own risk and with open mind.

It’s been a very, very long time since I last expressed my opinions on the things that’s going on in the world, isn’t it? I daresay that most of my new readers are not even aware that I can be rather opinionated when it comes to commenting about the current issues.

I’ve mellowed a little bit over the years, I guess. I no longer feel the desperate need to blast everyone and everything every goddamn day. I have come to learn to take the world as it is instead of how I want it to be (well, not everything, but still, I learned to accept the world as it it enough to keep me from having high blood pressure).

It’s not that I no longer care about the happenings in the world, but it’s just that sometimes, a lot of things are out of my power and my jurisdiction. And there is no point complaining, whining and groaning  about things that i alone cannot change. Might as well learn to adapt rather than complain, isn’t it? Everyone should learn how to solve problem instead of whining about it. I think the world would be a better place to live in if everyone do that.

It’s the year 2011, and there is so many things that’s plaguing the world right now. Disaster struck. First, New Zealand was shaken with massive Earthquake that killed so many innocent lives.

Next up is Japan. Alot of people died because of horrendous Earthquakes and tsunamis. What’s worst, Japan is now exposed to radioactive particles that can kill as well. Death toll is raising and there’s no sign of stopping anytime soon.

Cries of pain, tears of the innocents are heard from every corner of the world. The world is grieving, mourning for the unexpected loss that came out of the disasters and ultimate devastation that’s often described as ‘The Wrath of God’.

I know that everyone is shocked. It’s only natural to feel shocked and disturbed by the wrath of nature that takes away so many lives and separate so many families, but it irked me to the very core each time I come across people who ask these questions:

“What the hell is God doing?”

“Why is He doing nothing?”

“Why is He not stopping all the loss, the pain and the disaster? Is He not powerful?”

“Why is He destroying everything?”

“Does God even exists?”

Disasters like Earthquakes and tsunamis may be the act of God, but it is not fair to blame Him for every single loss that we are experiencing right now. Who are you to question Him and put every single blame on Him each time disaster struck and take the innocent lives away?

Can you seriously say that we humans are not at fault at all? Did we not destroy our own world with our own hands by building too much skyscrapers and polluting the Earth? Did we or did we not dug our all the resources and minerals down to the core of the Earth?

Sure, we justify the act of mining the resources by convincing ourselves that it will make our lives easier, but did you know that each time we go for a dig, we are actually disrupting the nature’s balance and the ecosystem? We are the ones who hurt Mother Nature, so why the hell are we complaining when Mother Nature strikes back?

Why are we humans pointing out fingers to God for doing nothing about the loss of innocent lives when we still incite each other’s anger and wrath with our own disability to put aside our differences?

Did we not build weapon of mass destruction and blast it at each other?Did we not kill each other in wars and demonstration every day? Who are we to question God when He is merely reflecting what the human are actually doing in every corner of the world; destroying each other by not settling our differences and live peacefully like the family He intended us to be?

We accused Him for taking the lives of the innocents, but the war that we created killed more innocent lives over the years. Disasters only struck every now and then, but wars? Wars and corrupted government that causes ill feelings towards each other as well as poverty happens every day. It takes more innocent lives than any major disasters combined over the years.

Human are blind. Very blind. Because despite of everything, we still failed to see what God is trying to show us and tell us. I may sound heartless and lack of compassion, but I believe, God is trying to tell us to stop hating each other. He is asking us to put our beliefs and differences aside and live in unity instead of fighting each other. He is asking us to love each other, and stop doing things that will cost each other’s lives.

We are like His children. We are His misbehaving children. We are horrible to the point we can’t even get along with each other and hurt each other for being different. I don’t believe that God is punishing us for our sins, but He is just making us get along with each other by creating all of these nasty circumstances for us to deal with. How else is He supposed to make us get along? We’re definitely a stubborn lot. We never listen to each other. All we did is argue and blast each other with destructive weapons when we failed to come to perfect agreement.

Can you not see that all the disasters has forced each and everyone of us to put our differences aside  for a moment and come to each other’s aid regardless of our political, religious beliefs as well as our skin colour?

Don’t you see that there’s a lesson to be learn from all these? God is showing the better way of life for the mankind, why can’t we see? He is sending us a message in a very almighty way, and we got to learn to listen to what He has to say instead of blindly accusing Him for every single things that’s going on in our lives.

With technological advancement, we have become arrogant and boastful. We forget that there’s much more powerful being up there because we’re all busy playing God. We forget to be humble. The rich are becoming richer and more corrupted, while the poor are becoming poorer. We only mix and mingle around with people who are of our own stature. We discriminate.

Well, another thing to be learned from all these, isn’t it? We are still human, and when the wrath of nature is upon us, nothing could stop it from harming us, no matter how advanced and hi-tech we are. We are still destructible, despite of everything.

We are not God, and in the midst of destruction, we are reminded that everyone is still human and still the same. We are not that high and mighty after all. When we’re hurt, we bleed, and we still cry out for for people to help us. When disaster strike, we learn the lesson of being humble and humility, for everyone can still be equal even though different in many ways.

God is being blamed for the death of innocent infants and children, but did we or did we not killed our children first through abortions? What difference does it make, really? All these while we’ve been killing the innocent, unborn children non-stop, without repentance. We even have countries that legalized abortions, even. Is it not the same? Deaths are still involved. Just differently.

Now… now is not the time to point our fingers to God. Stop blaming Him when we too are at fault in many ways. We are not sin free. God is showing us and making us see more clearly of what we have actually done with the world and ourselves, so please, open your eyes. Put our differences aside and help each other through this tough times. Encourage each other, comfort each other, offer prayers, offer hope, and aid each other in any ways we can, for in the time of destruction, there is no use going around blaming each other or God.

What we need to do now is not blame anything, but work towards healing and restoration. We need to stop living a destructive lives. Stop the war, stop the killing for being different because in truth, we’re all the same. We should stop trying to create our future by tainting our hands with each other’s blood and put our differences aside in order to create our future… together.

Cleffairy: (Genesis 3) Then God say “Behold, the people have become like Us. Knowing both good and evil. Now, if they also eat the fruit from The Tree of Life, they will live forever.”

Therefore, the people were punished and banished from the Garden of Eden for eating the Forbidden fruit.

Now…what is it human are looking for by destroying each other and trampling each other in wars these days? To retrieve the ‘garden’ that they lost long ago and can never take back? We cannot turn back time and undo the original sins, but we can make effort to live peacefully in the new garden that we create with our own hands if we want to.
