Putrajaya Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2012

I insisted on going to the Putrajaya Hot Air Balloon Fiesta last night cuz I got sick and tired of rotting at home throughout the entire school holiday. The victim is of course my husband who had to drive and endure the massive traffic jam in Putrajaya for selfish little me. Parking was almost non-existent and some irresponsible drivers even decided to park their vehicle on the Putrajaya bridge itself. But despite all that, we miraculously managed to reach the fiesta in time…and it was really wonderful.

image

There’s lotsa  inflated and flamed up balloons by the time we reach the fiesta ground…

image

There’s all sort of hot air balloons over there…from various parts of the world. But I did not see the famous Darth Vader balloon anywhere this year. 😛 Perhaps Darth Vader has been defeated byLuke Skywalker and couldn’t make it to the fiesta this year.

image

There’s not only balloons during the light show, but there were also fireworks display along with fire dance performances.

It was quite an experience, I must say, and if you’re asking me if it’s worth all the troubles to go to the fiesta to see those hot air balloons, then my answer is yes. It’s quite worth your time, and quite worth suffering for.

Cleffairy:Tsk tsk… next year I must make a point to get a close up pic and vid of those semi-naked fire dancers. THEY ARE HOT!

Change of Plans

If you are one of my book reviewers, I’m sorry to say that this is not an update about my novel of the same name, but about the change of my schedule and priorities. Ever since school term commenced, I no longer have much time to spend unnecessarily and therefore, if I don’t drop by your blogs and whatnot to comment like I used to do, please don’t feel offended. It is not because I am unhappy with you or I no longer have interest in what you have to say in your blogs, but it is because time is envious of me and does not permit me to do so. There is so much things to be done in a day and 24 hours is no longer sufficient for me.

My priorities are different now that my schedules has changed greatly. I hope you guys understand and excuse me for it.

I will try to drop by whenever I can, though.

And do take note that most of my blog entries are scheduled. My response to your comments might be slightly delayed as well and I am sorry for that too. Should you need to contact me urgently, feel free to do so via email. I can be contacted at cleffairy(at)gmail.com for personal matters and admin(at)cleff.bia.garf.us for business purposes like paid reviews and whatnot.

Thank you in advance for your kind understanding. I really appreciate it.

Help needed…

There’s a lot of bad news lately, and the most recent is that my husband’s friend’s son (a member of one of the It community in Malaysia) is admitted into the hospital for Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). It’s some sort of blood cancer.

This boy’s name is Faris. He’s 6 years old, and as of writing, he’s battling for his life in Sime Darby Medical Center Subang Jaya (Subang Jaya Medical Center).

As of writing this entry, the poor child is battling for his life in Sime Darby Medical Center Subang Jaya (Subang Jaya Medical Center). Initially the parents of this child wanted to transfer this child to government’s hospital to reduce cost, but the doctors adviced them against is as he’s critically ill and unstable.

Faris and his family desperately need your help. The medical bills are escalating, and right at the moment, we’re trying all we can to raise Rm30,000 for Faris and his family.

And if you wish to help this poor child, you may donate any amount of money into this Maybank account:

Maybank 1628-5200-2738 (Shamrulismawi Ismail).

Blood donation is also welcomed. The child needs O blood type, and if your blood happens to be O type and you wish to donate blood to this poor child, you may go to Sime Darby Medical Center Subang Jaya (Subang Jaya Medical Center) to donate blood.

Further details can be obtained from Faris’s father’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Abahko

UPDATE:

Faris has passed away on 23rd Feb 2012 in Sime Darby Medical Center Subang Jaya (Subang Jaya Medical Center) at about 10am. This entry will be locked. Thank you for your help and generousity, folks.

Cleffairy: Please spread the words. Thank you.

Finger lickin’ good

I was apalled with the unfortunate incident that happened in KFC iCity, Selangor branch yesterday. And so, when KFC came up with another promotion on Facebook a couple of hours earlier, I was rather skeptical.

I know the promotion was an attempt to appease public’s anger and to cover up the nasty incident yesterday, and I wondered if I would end up bruised and battered like the guy who went to buy his KFC meal.

But the deal is too good for me to pass…you don’t usually get 6 pieces of chicken along with 3 medium sized wedges or 3 Colonel Chicken Rice for Rm19.90.

And so I sent my husband to go and buy the Bargain Bucket for us to have for dinner.

The bargain bucket

3 medium sized wedges.

There was no long queue whatsoever in KFC Jalan Gombak and my husband came out in one piece from the KFC. (I think people are not really aware of the promo yet… either that or there’s ongoing boycott)So I suppose not all KFC staffs are brutes? I don’t know. All I care for right at the moment is my rumbling tummy and I was quite relieved that I did not have to cook for dinner tonight.

For more info on their ongoing promotions, check it out in KFC Facebook page.

Happy Deepavali

Happy Deepavali  and happy holiday to all. For those who are going back to their hometown during this festive season, please do take good care of yourselves and travel safe.

I’m not going anywhere this time around, but I’ll be spring cleaning both my house and all of the things that I have online, including my Facebook account. Things are rather messy and cluttered lately and it’s high time I do that. Then perhaps, after that, I’ll reward myself with some ice cream in newly opened KL Festival City.

What about you? How will you spend your holiday? Do share with me.

Cleffairy: And so they call it the festival of light. To drive away the ‘darkness’ in my Facebook account, I’ll be deleting all those who are not exactly my friends. 😀 (got extremely fed up with the La La Clothes! Grr)

Reduced to clear

The cost of living is really pointing to the sky these days, and I find that it’s almost impossible to feed my family with the normal budget that I’ve been sticking to for years. I used to set aside an amount of money as the household monthly grocery money, but these days, I feel that I had to increase the limit a little bit. 🙁 It’s getting really difficult to shop without being over-budget these days.

I’m not sure what the hell is going on, but when I went groceries shopping last week, I discovered that I over-budget terribly even though I bought the very same items as I did in the previous round. I checked the receipt, and the cashier got everything right. She did not miscalculate and I didn’t take anything extra…so…the only thing that can go wrong is the price, right?

My husband checked the receipt too, and he pointed out to me that a lot of things have become much more expensive than before… most by a few cent and a few Ringgit. If some people are not attentive enough…(like me) they probably wouldn’t realize it til they pay for it at the cashier counter.

Eating out these days seems to be much more energy and cost effective these days as not all food item that’s sold at hawker stall or restaurant can be increased drastically like groceries cuz diners tends to boycott.

While eating out or taking away food from hawker stalls and whatnot is much more cost effective and energy saving, but my family and I tend to get bored with it easily and we always prefer home-cook food rather than food from outside.

And so, we went grocery shopping again, in hopes that we don’t over budget like the previous round. This time, I pay much more attention to those items that I picked up and discovered that unless I go for ‘reduced to clear’ item, I wouldn’t be able to get everything that I need to stock up my kitchen supplies. 🙁

Deciding that it is okay to purchase  and consume some ‘reduced to clear’ items, I picked up a few foodstuff  from both wet and dry aisles. I managed to spot and grab hold onto some ‘reduced to clear’ biscuits, crisps, pastas, instant noodles, canned food, vegetables, meat and poultry.

All of  the vegetables, meat and poultries still looks reasonably fresh and the biscuits and canned food still have a couple of month more to go before reaching the expiry date.

I come to realize that I managed to save much more by purchasing those ‘reduced to clear’ items and instead of going over budget, the total bill was much  cheaper than buying those items that’s not tagged with ‘reduced to clear’ sticker or ‘discounted items’ sticker.

A lot of people are apprehensive of buying ‘reduced to clear’ items whenever they go for grocery shopping, but since I cook pretty often and the foodstuff that I bought usually lasts only a week, I did not think that buying ‘reduced to clear’ items is such a huge issue to me. After all, most of the food are already in the tummy when they reach their expiry dates.

If I had a choice, I would probably choose those that’s not tagged with ‘reduced to clear’ items and opt for those ‘fresh’ ones instead, but the bills is killing me terribly and I think right now, instead of moaning and groaning about the drastic price increase, opting for ‘reduced to clear’ item is a temporary solution for the over-budgeting issue that’s plaguing me whenever I go shop for groceries these days.

So…what do you folks do to continue to retain your frugal lifestyle? Do you buy ‘reduced to clear’ and ‘discounted items’ like me too or you have other ways to combat the price increase in order to keep every mouth in your family fed and your account happy? Information on online accounting classes can help those who want to learn to balance their budget.

Cleffairy: As of late, I discovered using clipped coupons and discount card before paying for the groceries helps too but please, do share with me on tips how to shop wisely and stock up on groceries in a more cost effective manner. I definitely could use it.

Of heroes and villains

To have heroes, we need to have villains so that the heroes can look saintly and angelic in the eyes of public. Unfortunately for us all, some heroes created villains so that they can look heroic.

When it comes to history, how does one determine the real heroes and the real villain? And how does one determine if the villains that have been portrayed in the history books are genuine and not made believe figure or something that has been cooked up by ‘heroes’ to make themselves look good in the eyes of the world?

It is a sad thing isn’t it? One can’t possibly really tell the two apart. There is always two sides of the same story. And like history, same thing happens in life. You can’t always determine who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. There is always a predator in lamb’s clothing, and one must be careful not to be easily swayed and manipulated.

Here’s a rhetoric question from me. As of late, some people and ‘historians’ from certain political claimed that Malaya was never colonized by British. If so why did we still need to ask for independence from British back then? If that’s the case, why are we celebrating 31st August every year as our independence day?

Cleffairy: I wonder how far the undeserving heroes would go to convince the world that they are a true hero? And I wonder how far these people would go to take revenge on people who refused to believe in their claims and punish people who have absolutely different opinions about them?
