Table of Comparison Before and After Petrol Price Increase

I’m sure all of you have heard the news where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced a 20 sen increase for RON95 and diesel last night, effective as of 3rd September 2013. According to the Prime Minister, this is one of the measures to rationalize subsidies by the government.

Well, I have no idea how the price increase will help the citizens or even boost our already downhill economy, but I thought you folks might be interested in the BEFORE and AFTER table chart for full tank of fuel of certain cars.

Cleffairy: Not really looking forward to the price increase of goods that will surely come after this. 🙁

Lemang, A Must Have During Eid

It’s festive season again in Malaysia. Eid celebration is quite a big deal for us, and commonly celebrated by Muslims and non-Muslims alike in the country by visiting friends and relatives and feasting all month long. There are plenty of traditional Malay delicacy served during Eid, but my must have is definitely these; lemang.

Lemang. A traditional Malay delicacy. Made from glutinous rice and thick coconut milk and cooked over fire by using bamboo stick. Taken with spicy rendangs or assorted curries. A delicacy eaten during Eid or other major festivals in Malaysia.

Lemang,lemang! Who want one? Rm10 -Rm16. Darn. Price raise. #elliecleffairy #raya #hariraya #instafood #lemang #traditionalfood #malaysiandelicacy #malayfood

These are lemang daun lerek. One of the best in Klang Valley area, in my opinion. A tad on the pricey side, though. A stick of these could easily cost you Rm10-Rm16.

Soft, enough ‘lemak’, not overcooked, not chewy or hard. Yummy! #elliecleffairy #instafood #raya #hariraya #malaysianfood #traditionalfood #malaydelicacy

But I think it’s still worth the price, considering that it was perfectly done. The texture was soft, and yet not overly chewy. It tasted rich enough and complement my curry perfectly.

Getting my twice a year lemang fix. The lemang daun kerek.

This lemang is sold somewhere along the roadside nearby Batu Caves area. 😀 Try it out if you must have some. Only available throughout the month of Eid, though. You might wanna contact them and place your order before you drop by, cuz this one’s pretty well known, and there’s perpetual queue for the lemang.

Cleffairy: Twice a year…not too much to ask, no? Neway, here’s wishing everyone who celebrates Eid a Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin. 😀

GE 13: Married To An Abusive Husband

I haven’t been talking about politics for quite some time now, have I? Well, somehow I couldn’t really give a damn anymore cuz no matter what I say will not change a thing about Malaysian politics, but after all being said and done yesterday during the 13th general election in Malaysia, I feel that somehow, the politics in Malaysia is like being married to an abusive husband.

He treats you bad but you still have compassion for him because the relationship between both of you have been so long and you got too much to think about to consider divorce. You’re afraid to let go. You’re afraid to get out of your comfort zone that is no longer a comfort zone.

But when you couldn’t take all the abuse anymore and finally come to your senses and wants to come out from the abusive relationship, you’ll find it difficult because he will promise you that he will change, buys you a lot of wonderful gifts, gives you money, assure you that he will give you love and security. Sweet talk to you and then coax you into submission, expecting you to go along with whatever thing that he wants you to do.

But when you refuses, he will coerce you, threaten you, lock you up and have you beaten badly, even. So…what do you do when you’re trapped in such a relationship? It’s kinda hard to say, but all you ought to know that the abusive relationship cannot go on and on forever. It got to stop somewhere, and that somewhere is not backing down, even if your back is facing the cliff. One ought to have courage to walk away from an abusive relationship, even if it means walking into a future of uncertainty. Better the uncertainties than being continuously used and abused in the worst ways possible.

Cleffairy: Will we ever be out of an abusive relationship? I have no idea.

Project Hilang

Everyday an average of 12 children are reported to disappear and  many don’t return too their parents, and a group of volunteers has decided to develop a FREE and open sourced smartphone apps to help trace and return the missing children to their parents.

Basically, Project Hilang is a will be consisting of these feature:

1) Web based application to allow Admins & content editors to enter new entries, missing children that had been confirmed.

2) Mobile application for major smartphones that will allow users to receive real time updates and alert if a child goes missing. Parents who realized that their child is missing will be able to post alert through the apps and every user within the radius would be alerted, including shopping malls & local police. The apps will also randomly show missing child’s pictures & bio.

3) Shopping complex & police Interaction page – that will allow them to post in their details & alerts as well.
The project is still on development stage, and right at the moment, Project Hilang needs all the help they can get from the public. If you’re programmers, graphic designers, social media enthusiast and think that you could spare some time and effort to contribute, give exposure, or even sponsor Project Hilang in any way, please feel free to hop over to the Project Hilang Facebook Page to contact the person in charge and follow the updates on the project.
Cleffairy: Let us all work together for a better and safer Malaysia for our children.

Gardenia vs. Massimo

If you’re living in Malaysia, there’s a big chance that you have eaten Gardenia, the local sandwich loaf that’s been produced commercially. It used to be my first choice for my family’s bread intake. The loaf used to be so fluffy, soft, and not to mention quite thick, but ever since Massimo appeared in the market with a huge ‘BANG’ (there’s political, racial issue and whatnot behind Massimo’s appearance, but I’m not gonna talk about that today), my choice has always been Massimo.

Massimo is a must have item in my kitchen ever since the first time I’ve tasted it. In terms of taste and pricing, Massimo is much nicer to the taste-buds and also much kinder to the pocket. A regular loaf of Massimo bread only cost me Rm2.10 if I were to buy it at promotional introductory price in KK Mart.  It’s really great for me, as I’m a huge fan of a good toast during breakfast and supper.

My son, who is previously not quite a bread fan, is also turning into one after being introduced to Massimo. He no longer mind having half boiled eggs with toasts after switching to Massimo, which is really great, in my humble opinion.

Massimo sandwich bread is rather soft when you take it on its own, and goes really fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside when it’s toasted. I don’t get that from Gardenia. Well, not in the recent years, at least. Gardenia was great when it was just introduced, but it seems to me that the quality has somehow dropped after a few years time. I don’t feel that it’s worth paying for a loaf of Gardenia sandwich loaf anymore, though I still go for their other products like Twiggies, chocolate bread, buns or even instant waffles every now and then when I feel like it.

I have come to realize that Massimo sandwich loaf lasts longer in comparison to Gardenia too. It doesn’t go stale easily and does not have any bread fungus grown on it even after two or three days beyond its expiry date. (Yea, I eat those sandwich loaf even if it’s after the expiry dates, as long as it doesn’t have any fungus on it. So, sue me. LOL)

So, I’ve ditched Gardenia for good and opt for the cheaper but better quality Massimo sandwich bread instead. How about you?

Cleffairy: I  always choose a cheaper, but better quality foodstuff if I have the option to do so. How about you?
