I’m going straight into the ‘naughty’ list

Yours truly had wanted to write about something else, but since it’s Sunday, perhaps I’d lighten up a bit. Have you guys heard about the eight members of Gerakan Reformasi Rakyat Malaysia (Reformis) who intend to stalk Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and strip naked when they come face to face with him?

Well, here’s some bits and pieces about it. This is a news back a few weeks ago. So pardon me for the awkward timing of the article.

The men, aged 33 to 50, are from the movement’s Dare to be Nude Squad. And swore that they will strip naked before the Selangor Mentri Besar in protest against the state government’s decision to raise the rental of low-cost houses. To say that I found this piece of news amusing is definitely an understatement, considering the ones who are planning to strip naked in front of a straight man is not women, but middle age men who are probably already wrinkly and soft down there.

Frankly speaking, do they think that by stripping naked and flashing their wrinkling assets would bring the Mentri Besar in question to his knees and comply to their demands?

Think again. Pray tell, which straight man would fall for the nude dance of some unattractive middle age man who probably could not wank or shake their little brother to attention? Their penis is probably something similar to a rotten old banana for all I know. Pretty women going nude and demand for what they want would probably get different result, but those horny men who crave to go nude in public won’t get what they demand for.

Oh yes, going nude to demand for something for middle age men would definitely not work. Even yours truly would puke at the very sight of wrinkly and soft penises dangling about. Such thing is not for the faint-hearted, aye? But then again, since these horny homosexual exhibitionist wannabe men are demanding to go naked at any cost, I suggest that they at least try to make their body look pretty and presentable like the pictures below: (or hire some of these women to get some attention instead)

It is amazing that in Malaysia, women are not allowed to dress up as they saw fit, and yet the Fatwa Council did not come up with any of their oh so mighty decree to stop or ban Muslim men from being exhibitionist. Amazing, isn’t it, dear readers? This is discrimination and chauvinism at it’s best.

So stalking and stripping naked is the new way to get politician to give in to your whims. I wonder what happened to the good old diplomacy and negotiation, anyway? C4-ed to pieces?

Cleffairy: If you want to go out in public nude, you might as well do it tastefully. It’s more than revolting to see men who are old enough to be grandfathers behaving like some horny homosexual exhibitionist wannabes.

Phishing Email

I’m a fiery and short tempered person in nature, and it doesn’t take much to anger me or annoy me. As of late, I’ve been receiving an email that I suspect a ‘phishing email’. For those who are not really familiar with the term ‘phishing’, phishing an act of sending an email to a user and falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise or organization in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft.

The email will usually directs the user to visit a website where they are asked to update personal information, such as passwords, credit card codes, id number, and bank account numbers that the legitimate organization already have in their database. The website, however, is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information.

The recent email that irritates me to no end lately is an email claimed to be sent on the behalf of CIMB Bank, Malaysia. So, after receiving the same email a few times, I’ve decided to report it to CIMB Bank for further investigation. I’d like to share the phishing email with my dear readers as a forewarning. Do not fall for the email below.

This mailbox is not monitored and you will not receive a response.

I’ve forwarded the email to CIMB Bank for further investigation, and was pleased to note that I receive a reply that’s less than 24hours. Here I’d like to extend my gratitude to CIMB for their efficient PR service. (Which is so unlike the bloody McD. Til tis very second, I still haven’t get any feedback from them)

Below is the content of my short notice to CIMB Bank:

I’ve received this suspicious email. I don’t even have a CIMB account, how is it possible that your bank would request me to verify the integrity of my account? Please alert your clients about this phishing email. This is the third time I received the same email.

Regards,

Lizzie

This is what CIMB Bank personnel, Ain, wrote to me, confirming that it’s indeed a phishing email. So I thought, I’d warn you guys about the phishing email. Don’t fall for it, okay?

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for reporting to us on the matter.

We wish to inform you that the e-mail is NOT from us. This is a phishing email as the contents are absolutely not related to our bank, CIMB Bank Berhad.

Please to be informed that this message or email can be safely ignored and discarded

For further information this e-mail would be sent to thousands or maybe millions of users. Recipients are not necessarily being CIMB Customers. Fraudsters are merely holding on to lady luck to get responses from CIMB Bank customers. That is the reason most phishing emails carries a very generic greeting (example: Dear CIMB Bank Customer). Meaning there are probabilities a non CIMB customer will receive these sorts of emails.

Regards and have a pleasant day.

Ain

Cleffairy: Do take note that banks do not usually ask you to verify your pin number or password via emails or phone. So please do not fall for such tricks, for the consequences could be fatal.

PS: Dear readers, please feel free to copy/paste phishing email, apart from the one above and share it with the rest of us here. Feel free to share your ‘phishing’ experience here too, be it via emails or the ones via phone calls. 😀

McDonalds KL Central- The Worst McDonald Franchise

McDonalds KL Central-Provides horrible service and worst food quality control. The crew came with an attitude too.

It almost killed me to write this article and publish it in my blog. I hate writing about something that will cause trouble or disciplinary action to others as a result of my writing, however, this time, I ought to make exception for this, as it would kill me more if I don’t write about a subject that I felt so strongly about. It concern my blood pressure as well as the image of my country, considering which McDonalds franchise that’s been giving poor service to the consumer all this while.

Which McDonalds franchise gives bad service and poor impression to the customers, you ask me? Why, it’s McDonalds KL Central-one stop place for people around Malaysia and across the globe to perch on and have a good meal or two before they ride their trains to their destination. Most patrons are locals, but do keep in mind that there are good numbers of foreigners and tourist too, as KL Central is also a station that provide commuting service to Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA). It’s such a shame that a franchise that cater most local and foreign diners provides the poorest service in comparison to other McDonalds franchise in Malaysia. McDonalds KL Central is the worst I’ve ever patronize before. The crew are not well trained and have the manners that would put a swearing sailor to shame.

Ladies and gentleman, this is not an advertorial, mind you. I would love to do advertorial for McDonalds if I’m given a chance to do so, as I truly love the product and I definitely support the cause of charity that comes along with it when you buy their food. I myself have been a supporter of Gift of Smile all these while. I love to eat the food and do charity at the same time.

But unfortunately, this is purely criticism and complain. Yes, I am complaining here, on the service and the food provided by McDonalds KL Central. I would not complain if it’s my first time being unsatisfied and angered by McDonalds KL Central crews’ service, but this is the third time the crews on duty made my blood boil. This is it, my patience finally wears off.

I’m lovin it’, is a slogan used by McDonalds Restaurants to attract consumers to buy their product. Yes, yours truly has come to love their fast food products, and McDonalds has always been my favourite place to get some fast food while commuting from KL Central to KLIA, but I’m not sure if I would want to stop by McDonalds KL Central anymore after this. It’s not only frustrating, but completely waste of time and money to eat at McDonalds KL Central. The service are unsatisfactory, and their attitude disgust me. What’s worst, the food have no quality control as well too.

My first horrifying experience in KL Central was last year, somewhere in March, around 10.30pm. I just arrived from KLIA, and after a long and tiring flight, I saw McDonalds is still open, and I was hoping to get a good rest and fast food. But I was wrong, this is where the crew on duty took wrong orders from me, and refused to acknowledge the mistake.

I still remember that I ordered a set of large Chicken Foldover. Instead of giving me the product that I ordered, the crew on duty gave me Big Mac instead. I do not even eat meat to begin with, and I’m more than sure that I did not tell her that I wanted a Big Mac. Why would I order a Big Mac when I do not take meat? When the food is served, I told her that she took the wrong order. But instead of apologizing, she insisted that I ordered what she brought to me. She shouted at me and demanded that I was the wrong. My, my, such manners. Is this the way you’re supposed to treat your customers? In food service industry, it is basic knowledge that you do not shout and go berserk at your customer. Besides, I cannot comprehend how she could take my order wrongly when the restaurant is almost empty? I would understand if she heard wrongly if there are crowds and loud noises, but it was not crowded and definitely not noisy at that moment.

And so, I took a complain form, and complain about it. But it seems that no one acknowledge my complaints at all, as there’s no feedback for my complaints. Fine, I let it off that time. No point in making mountain out of molehill. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who experience the same thing in that franchise. I made no further complaints after that, hoping that they would improvise on their service and attitude.

But I was wrong about them improvising their service, as again, somewhere during the end of February this year, again, tired and hungry, I went to McDonalds KL Central after commuting from KLIA to get some Spicy Chicken McDeluxe. This time, they did not take the wrong order, and I thought it’s safe to applaud them for their service, but no, they found better way to anger me again. This time, they made me wait for almost 45 minutes for the bloody Spicy Chicken McDeluxe burger while I amuse myself STANDING at the counter, watching the crew chatting and joking around with each other. (It was night again, and there are not much patrons at that time as well)

My goodness, I thought the crew are paid to work, not to chat with one another to their heart content. And as far as I’m concern, McDonalds restaurant nationwide had set the standard that food should be served to the customer within 60 seconds, and if the food is still in preparation process, the crew in charge is supposed to politely inform the customer to wait and take a seat while waiting for the order. I was rudely ignored when I was waiting for my orders, and the crew in charge had no courtesy to even tell me to have a seat while waiting for my order while she flirt with a handsome foreign patron and treat him like a God with her broken English. He was given a small paper cup containing beverage and was courteously told to have a seat while waiting for his order. I was aghast to see that different treatment was given to the handsome foreign chap. So I thought, perhaps it’s because I am a local, so she did not give me the same treatment. What’s more, I’m probably not attractive enough to receive the same treatment.

Angry, I stood aside by the counter and watched the crews’ attitude and bahaviour towards the customer. I had initially thought that they only treat locals like the local customers are no importance, but again, I was wrong. Enter a dark middle east man. He was also made to stand at the counter while waiting for his orders, and was rudely told off when he gets rather impatient while waiting for the order. He must be not appealing enough to be treated like the handsome white man, I suppose. I came to realize that McDonalds KL Central treats the customer based on the way they’re dressed and their skin colour. Isn’t this a form of gender and racial discrimination?

When I thought nothing else could go wrong during this particular visit, the order came in after a long wait, and to my chagrin, my Spicy Chicken McDeluxe was overly done. It was definitely more than crispy. It’s hard rock and hard to bite, and the patty had lost it’s juicy and tender texture. And to my disgust, the lettuce that was used for the Spicy Chicken McDeluxe was not fresh and has already darken. My fries, needless to say, does not have the standard French fries quality at all. The fries was also hard, as a result of over frying it. Where is the quality control? These McDonalds’ crews are not doing justice to the brand!

Do I need to say that the poor food quality is as a result of the crews’ carelessness and their unprofessional attitude while working? So this time, I asked for the manager so that I could complain, but the staff told me off rudely when I said I want to make complains, and informed me that their manager has went back home. Again, I lodge my complain using the complain form provided, and of course, I get no feedback from their PR personnel again. I’m not surprised, they probably threw away every single complain forms submitted to them, anyway.

Now, let’s talk about my recent visit to McDonalds KL Central. I should have known better to find somewhere else to eat after all that I have been put through by this franchise’s crew. It was two days ago, 9th December 2008, approximately at 10.00pm and at counter two. A Malay lady donning a black colour headscarf was in charge of taking my other half’s order. I was too tired to order the food this time, half expecting that they will make me angry with either their attitude, or poor service again. I took a seat, and watched them taking my husband’s order wryly.

My husband was made to wait very long for the orders, and was not told to have a seat while waiting. The crew rudely ignored him when he asked when the order food will be done. Fine, nothing new in that. I experienced the same thing earlier this year. Nothing changed or improved in that department. After watching him wait for the food for about 20 minutes, he paid for the food, and the crew in charge, the young Malay girl in headscarf gave him the wrong amount of balance, insisting that she has return the correct amount of money, and refused to even check the cash registry records when she was requested to do so.

We would have just let her off if she acknowledge her mistake and apologize, but no, she insisted that she was right. Not only that, she rudely told him off and called him a cheater and a liar. Wow, who she think she is to behave that way to a customer? She’s supposed to apologize when yshe’se in the wrong, but no, she not only refused to apologize, but she scolded the customer loudly and humiliate the customer, in public, no less. Talk about mood and attitude!

Angry beyond words, we requested the Manager on Duty to come ask the crew in question to apologize to us for her mistake and for raising her voice to my husband. The Manager on Duty came out after a while and attend to us. However, he did not comply with our request, and only thought we’re concern about the money. Excuse me, I wouldn’t care if they do not return the correct balance.

All I want is some respect from the crew, and I want them to apologize and acknowledge their mistake when they made one. But no, he only offered us a drink halfheartedly to compensate for our troubles. Excuse me, sir, are customers so cheap that you could cool down their anger and dissatisfaction with a glass of coke? Things doesn’t work that way for us. All we want is respect and proper conduct by the crew. Knowing that there’s no use talking to people who do not care for the customers, we left.

I would have jot down the crew and the Manager on duty’s name, however, the name tag was not properly worn to be seen by people. I suppose they purposely wear it that way so that no one could lodge any complains against them. Knowing that there must be a frame that hold up ‘crew of the month’ pictures and name somewhere, I went to search for it. I manage to find it hung up in a small corner of the restaurant, only to notice that there’s only pictures of the crew, and no names whatsoever were on display. So I decided, if I couldn’t make them apologize for their mistake or even improvise, I ought to let my readers know what to expect when they patronize McDonalds KL Central.

I even took the picture of the rude lady in question so that you would know that this is the one who will probably give you the same treatment as she did my husband. Below is the picture of her from different angle, trying as hard as she could to avoid my camera lense, but failed.

Above is the picture of the crew in question. The girl who donned the black headscarf.

Side view of the crew in question.

Another side view of the crew in question. I notice that she was trying to hide from my lenses. Even then she did not come to her senses to apologize to us. She should have known better. Does rude behaviour and attitude brings you benefit, anyway?

It’s such a shame that a McDonald that’s situated in a place where the daily patrons are not only locals, but loads of international patrons as well have the worst crew with nasty attitudes. Not to mention that there’s lack quality control while preparing for food. Such thing not only would spoil the brand, but also tarnish Malaysian good image in the eyes of foreigners and tourist. What would tourists and foreigners say when they encounter such thing in KL Central, their second stop in Malaysia after their flight from KLIA? They would definitely have the impression that the rest of us Malaysians are impolite, rude, unethical and comes with nasty attitudes. People like these are tarnishing the good image of our country. Please put a stop to this.

Cleffairy: I’m lovin’ it? Other McDonalds restaurants, yes, I love em, but definitely not McDonalds KL Central. I loathe and despise it.

Do note that I’ll be carbon copying this article to The Star, The Sun as well as the McDonalds email as well. If the editors find poor service in renowned fast food restaurant is an issue, they are free to edit and publish this as they saw fit. I do not mind, as long as my complaints are heard. Put a stop to poor service, please. Dear readers, please feel free to share your experience with any McDonalds that gives you similar experience. Hopefully, they would improvise.

Eid Al Adha

This is a bit early, but here’s wishing all Over A Cuppa Tea Muslim readers a blessed Eid Al Adha and happy holidays to the rest of you in Malaysia. Here’s my take on Eid Al Adha. I’m not the brightest crayon in the box, so please feel free to correct me on facts on Eid Al Adha if there’s any flaws in my writings.

Eid Al Adha takes place roughly seventy days after the end of Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month and coincides with the day that pilgrims performing the Hajj. The Edi Al Adha day starts very early. Muslims all around the world would dress in their best clothes, and go to a communal morning prayer.

As Ibrahim did, all financially able Muslims must make a sacrifice (Qurban). Families who are not financially able may get together to pool their money and buy an animal. The animal sacrificed must be of a certain age and quality. As Muslims make the sacrifice they will recite a prayer.  One third of Qurban meat  will be given to the poor and needy, one third to the extended family while one third will be for his own household.

Like Eid Fitri in Malaysia, the holiday is also a time for visiting and greeting friends and family, for eating (hmm, Malaysians can be such glutton at times) and for giving pocket money to young children and the elders. Open house during Eid Al Adha is also common practice in Malaysia.

Yours truly never fully understood the real meaning of Eid Al Adha. However, I’ve been told that it’s a Festival of Sacrifice. And it’s actually religious festival observation celebrated by Muslims and  Druze worldwide in commemoration of the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The devil tempted Ibrahim by saying he should disobey God and spare his son. As Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God intervened and instead provided a lamb as the sacrifice. Here’s an excerp of the sacrificial story that you guys might want to have a look at:

Ismail (Isaac) looks up lovingly at his father, Ibrahim (Abraham). there’s no fear written on his  expression despite the knife in his father’s hand – a knife which, he believes, will soon be slithered on his throat and take his life. A grimace of pain is hidden behind the father’s beard. The father ignores the ethereal whispers that surround him, coming from the very devil himself, urging him not to do it, to disobey God’s order. But Ibrahim (Abraham) persist. He knows what must be done.

The father looks at the boy one last time, then, slowly, reluctantly, raises his knife to strike the boy down.

The strike is never made. Instead, God, who, in order to test Ibrahim’s(Abraham’s) faith, had ordered Ibrahim (Abraham) to kill his son, intervenes, sending a lamb to be sacrificed in his place. From this day forth, no human sacrifice would ever be made by the people of the book.

This is why today all over the world Muslims who have the means to, sacrifice an animal (usually a goat, sheep, cows or camels), as a reminder of Ibrahim’s obedience to God. The meat is then shared out with family, friends (Muslims or non-Muslims), as well as the poor members of the community. (Do note that the child of the sacrifice was known as Ismail whereas the Judeo-Christian name was Isaac).

Distributing meat among the needy or poor is considered an essential part of the festival during this period. The main point for sharing the meat with the poor is symbolic of sharing wealth with others and to remind the devotees that everyone is equal in the eyes of God, and the only things that differentiate one devotee and another is not wealth, but the good deeds.

Cleffairy :Make the sacrifice for God’s sake, not political gains. Eid Mubarak and happy holiday to all.

Of modern parents, children and upbringing…

I’m seriously considering to stop taking breakfast at the regular cafe that I patronized almost every morning before I go to work, as I could not stop myself from observing my surrounding and feels bad about certain things that I see. I’ve lost track of how many articles that was inspired during my breakfast session. The previous one was about an old lady who had been sent away to live in an old folks homes. And today, again, I saw things that displease me.

I was starting to get irritated when my usual cuppa tea and half boil eggs with toasts came rather late, but instead of getting up to remind the waitress who took my order to get me my breakfast, my attention was diverted to another table nearby that’s occupied by four individuals. An elderly woman, a young man and his wife as well as their baby-age probably less than three month, as the baby still haven’t start teething yet.

So a family of four was having breakfast. Nothing wrong with the picture to me, until the baby let out a very loud wail, and instantly, the mother of the child allowed the baby to be snatched away from her arms to be cradled by the grandmother, who seems anxious about the grandchild, cooing to the baby all the way until the child’s wail were subsided into muffled sobs.

I heard the old lady spoke in Cantonese, chiding to her son in law and daughter, saying that she have been right in insisting that she took care of the baby, seeing how clueless the parents are in childcare. I was immediately aghast with her words. For a moment, I wondered if I heard correctly. Apparently, my ears did not fail me. I did heard correctly. The elder woman did say that the parents of the child are not good parents, and is not qualified to take care of their own baby. Okay, fine, that’s none of my business. But as I watched a while longer over my almost forgotten breakfast, I noticed another thing, which is the parents hardly give any attention at all to the baby, as if they do not care of the baby’s cries for attention or needs. They simply allowed the grandmother to handle everything and made no attempt to interfere at all.

Then after a moment, the parents stood up, bidding the elderly woman goodbye and tell her that they will come to visit her and their baby in a week or two, and to pick the baby for an immunization to be done in Johore. Apparently, the couple is living in Johore and had somehow left their child to live with the grandmother. Even at the mention of immunization, the elder woman was rather reluctant to allow the parents to bring her grandchild away from her. So she had insisted that they bring her along. The couple agreed instantly and rushed away, not even kissing or hugging their baby goodbye. The child remained in the grandmother’s protective clutches.

A question came to my mind. Is this the right thing to do? To allow your parents to raise your child for you in your hometown while you go and work elsewhere, and only see your child one week once or fortnightly once? Is it a trend that I am missing that young parents with career these days do not get involve much in bringing up their children?

All the dirty job was left to either the grandparents, nanny, babysitters or even child day care and nurseries. Majority of working parents opt the easy way out of the parenting job by handing it over to others. They do not get involve with the feeding, what more changing diapers or teaching their children proper manners and etiquette. The parents definitely missed out the time the child’s first tooth started to grow, the first words, the first crawl or even first few steps taken by the child while learning to walk. The parents would missed all of the beautiful things that happened during their child’s growing up process.

I had known that somehow it’s been a norm in some families to let the grandparents raise the young ones, but I definitely had not known that they played very little part in their children’s upbringing- most only contributed money to the ones who are taking care of their child where their child’s well being is concern. So is parenting these days is about sending your child to your parents or your in laws to be taken care of, and you only contributed money so that your child will be fed and well clothed?

Who is the real parents here, you or your parents? I could not understand modern women these days, they wanted to become mother, willing to let the stomach be bloated like some hot air balloon and go through labor pain but not willing to take care or involved much in raising their own child. Hell some mothers do not even know how to take care of their children properly and spoil their children like hell when they finally take their children to live with them again, probably at the age of five or six, where all the awkward times during childhood had passed. Disciplining the child is definitely out of question.

Again, my question here is, why bother giving birth to your child just to satisfy your own maternal need and to stop your biological clock from tick-tocking and drives you insane? Why bother, when all you did after the child’s birth, you parceled your child away to be taken care by your old folks and you only see your kid once in a while? Don’t give me the bullshits about being too busy with work. You ought to know when you decided to have a baby that the responsibility of raising a child is huge and sacrifices in time and career is required of you. So why send your child away to be taken care of? Even animals are more involved in raising their young than modern people these days.

Call me old fashion, but I come from a family where my father and mother took care of me themselves since I was a wailing infant to this very day, though I’m all grown up, married and all. There’s not a day in my parent’s life that they left me to be taken care by both of my grandparents, maternal and paternal alike. My own grandparents are strictly grandparents, how they should be, where my parents would bring me to visit them once in a while so that my grandparents would dote one me and then they would bring me back with them and raise me with their very bare hands. I definitely do not mistake my grandmother for being my mother when I was younger like children these days do.

And yes, before you ask me about my childhood, my father did clean up my poop and I even pee on his head while he’s sleeping him when I was a baby(this is one bloody story my dad would tell people over and over again when he talked about raising children to this very damn day, pretty embarrassing for me)- he even bathe me when I was barely three days old, I have loads of my naked pictures to prove that. Squealing and wriggling in my father arms while he bathe me while my mother looked on very anxiously. And yes, my mother did get her fair share of my tantrums when I refused to eat vegetable that she sneaked in my porridge. My parents did not allow my grandparents to even interferre in my upbringing, and I was their firstborn, no less. They had no experience in handling babies whatsoever when they had me, and yet, they do not throw me to my grandparents to be taken care of like modern parents these days.

I doubt most of modern parents these days share the same experience as my parents. They are barely parents, to even begin with. More like an ATM machine rather than parents, I must say.

Cleffairy: As parents, do play important role in your children’s upbringing as parents. Please do not just be an ATM machine to them.

World AIDS Day, Please Support PMTCT!

It’s 1st December 2008 when I wrote this entry. This entry was originally meant for another one of my regular venting until I saw a young child, who is probably still in her primary school walked passed me at my regular breakfast spot. I almost missed the red ribbon that she’s wearing, pinned on her black coloured t-shirt. All but a child reminded me that today, 1st December 2008 hold more significant than other day. Today is supposed to be the World Red Ribbon Day, or in other words, the World AIDS Day.

The realization hit me very hard on my head. I felt as if I’ve been knocked on the head by an imaginary teacher, and it hurts. I have realized two things over my cuppa tea after seeing the little girl wearing a pinned ribbon on her t-shirt, which is first, I did not do my part as a human being to make a difference to stop the stigma on the number one pandemic that still shows no sign of stopping. And two, I realized that Malaysians are not doing much to stop the innocent being victimized by AIDS. If Malaysian government have been doing their part to reduce the spread of this pandemic, I would have realized earlier that today is World AIDS Day. If Malaysian bloggers bothered enough to talk about AIDS the way they camwhore on their blogs, write about their food gluttony, bitch about politics or even gossips, I would have realized earlier that today is world’s AIDS Day. And if only Malaysian newspaper stop bootlicking the politicians for a while to reflect on Word AIDS Day, I would have worn the red ribbon myself today.

And so, today, as a blogger, I’m really ashamed of myself, for even planning to write about something that do not really matter, something that could not make a difference to the the world. So today, I would like to speak up about AIDS and the innocents. You may read this entry or even skip this altogether, I don’t mind. I just would like to spare my conscience from a guilt trip from being an ignorant and selfish human being. I may not so much difference with this entry, but at least, once you, precious readers saw the red ribbon, you’ll know what day is it today.

The innocents that I’m talking about is women and children who contracted AIDS simply because they had sex with their husband, and simply because a baby is born to a woman who is HIV positive. AIDS are often a result of infidelities and casual sex. It’s sad to see women and children all around the world had AIDS because of their husband/father’s lusts.

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.

Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

Currently only a minority of pregnant women living with HIV in the developing world are provided with drugs to prevent the virus being transmitted to their babies. As a result, nearly half a million children become infected with HIV every year.

I will not talk about how AIDS is spread and what we can and cannot do when we interact with a person who have AIDS, you probably know that. Let’s talk about stopping HIV from being transmitted from mothers to babies. The vast majority children’s prevented by stopping the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. If babies don’t become infected with HIV then they won’t develop AIDS and die.

Any baby born to a mother with HIV risks becoming infected during pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding. The chance of this happening can be massively reduced by giving HIV infected mothers and their babies anti-HIV drugs and, where appropriate, by feeding the baby using formula rather than breast milk.

These interventions are known as the Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission or “PMTCT”. No mother wants to pass HIV to her child, but without PMTCT interventions, around one in three babies born to women with HIV will become infected with HIV themselves.

In developed countries, almost all HIV infected women will receive good PMTCT care. With the best treatment and formula feeding, the chance of HIV being transmitted to the baby is less than two percent. But I doubt Malaysian women are getting such care, as the stigma is still huge in Malaysia, not to mention that women cannot access PMTCT service because it’s not available or inefficient in hospital or clinics. Stigma does not help the situation too. Once a woman is infected by HIV, she’s doomed to be called names and shunned by the society, even though she’s innocent and gets HIV as a result of her husband’s wild sex life.

My writing today may not do much difference to the escalating number of women and children getting AIDS, but I do hope to make known of this campaign that is aimed to stop the transmission of AIDS from mother to their babies. I’m pretty sure that not many is aware that such this is actually possible.

Please, I beg of all of you, spare some time to VISIT THIS SITE to find out more about PMTCT and spread about it.

Join the campaign. Your effort may be not much, but it could possibly save a life or two. You, precious readers, can make a difference. If you can camwhore for your blog, write about your food adventure or anticipation for upcoming parties or events, you definitely can do this, something that could possibly save children’s life.

Cleffairy: The children do not have to suffer for the sin of their father and mother. Stop the innocent from suffering and dying.

P.E.A.C.E- Peace

P.E.A.C.E… peace, is a commodity that is very rare and should I say, coveted in the world now. I had wanted to write something about the nonsense that’s going on in Malaysia like the flip-flop fatwa shits, or rumour about a bastard who contracted STD because of sodomy, but I could not really bring myself to do it. Not when I was aghast to see what our world has become. Are we approaching Armageddon? We may be approaching the day where our world is destroyed, but frankly speaking, I do not think that it’s an act of God that the world would be destroyed. Many ‘God’ had warned us about Armageddon in various ‘Holy Books’ that the world would be destroyed one day without fail. God was right, one day the world will die, as many other living things, but I suspect the world’s undoing got nothing to do with Him. Human themselves will be the ones who destroy their own world, with nuclear warheads, violence, pollutions and disaster that was caused by technologies and many more destructive things.

As the world grows older the more unreasonable and animalistic human had become. Violence is everywhere. What is worst, violence is an unstoppable force, where human are particularly involved begin to show their monstrous side for many different reasons and beliefs.

Human these days are not better than animals and predator. No, should I say, humans are much more worst than animals. Animals show their violent streak, attacking their enemies purely because of survival instinct, where in their world, it’s kill or be kill. In their world, it’s eat or be eaten. Animals do not have the ability to use their brain the way human does. They cannot develop technologies nor they have religion to believe in. But they protect their packs, their families and made sure that they are safe. They do not fight and kill their own kind unless their object of affection and their young are involved.

Tell me, are humans any better than animals when all human, or rather, men do these days is beat up their female counterpart just because she does not believe in what they are fighting for?

Why do we constantly need to fight for supremacy when we’re actually fragile and any form of disaster could wipe us away easily? If human are so supreme, why not challenge God himself instead of using God’s name to violate his beautiful creation. If you are so strong and supreme and think that your opinion is right and should not be questioned, by all means, go and screw God’s asshole inside out and tell Him that you are more powerful than him instead of violating your fellow human. Go then, you think you are so smart, then by all means, tell God that you are right and more powerful than him.

God created religion as a guideline for human to live in peace and harmony, so tell me again why are you using his name in vain, boasts and force others to believe in what you believe in when God himself did not descend to Earth to force people to believe in Him? Did God come down to Earth armed with M-16 or sword point to your head and demand you to believe in Him? He didn’t didn’t He? Even if He did, how many of you out there would admit that He is actually God demanding you to believe in him? I bet none. But human these days loved to play God. They love to tell others what to do and how to live their lives. Tell me, isn’t that playing God?

Some animals could remain monogamous and stay devoted to their partner. Some mate for life, and would suicide when their partner died, but some humans do not do that. They practice open relationship, lies and infidelities. And also change their sex and whatnot.

Are humans actually any better than animals? Animals do not destroy other’s nest, but human destroy buildings and kill one another(and even themselves) and instill terror just because they do not share the same skin colour or religion with them? Animals do not kill their young but human do that, and sometimes, even before their young was even born. Human call it freedom of choice. Is that freedom or ultimate cruelty?

Where is peace? Why are humans not at peace with each other when we’re actually same kind of creature? How does peace look like? When there will be peace? Who deserve to have peace? Those are the question my children and yours would be asking. Sadly, you and me will not be able to answer it as long as there are animals in human skin are roaming about in this pathetic world.

Cleffairy: We are fighting for so many lost cause. Are we not thinking of our children’s future?

TGIO- NaNoWriMo 2008, I’m done, Am I?

I’ve been juggling between maintaining a blog, battling my disastrous work in office, fending off bitches who try to claw me, tend to my little family, as well as writing a novel with at least 50,000 words to answer NaNoWriMo 2008 challenge til the wee hours. And at 25th November 2008, I went to validate my manuscript, and this is what I get. I know I did not get money, but I get satisfaction out of this. Okay, call me a nutcase, I don’t mind. I’m too happy to bother anyway, even though I’m still not feeling so well. I can be proud this year, because I did not cheat my word count at all. Here’s what I get:

NaNoWriMo 2008 Winner Certificate- Awarded to novelist who manage to write at least 50,000 words novel in one month time, which is from 1st November 2008-30th November 2008.

.

And since I am also a member of NaNoWriMo Young Writers program, I get another bonus certificate. Cute one at that. (I’m considered a part of NaNoWriMo YWP Program as an educator, as I have students under my charge who participate in this program)

NaNoWriMo 2008 Certificate for Young Writers Program- Certificate awarded to children and educators alike for achieving their goals to write a novel in one month time.

On top of that, I also get a couple of web badges to boast about. LOL. I had not wanted to boast, but what the hell, I went through a gruesome month, let me boast a bit. Hahaha.

And another set of badges:

And the young writers program badge winner’s badge:

Some may say that I’ve been doing a completely stupid and useless thing throughout the whole November, answering the NaNoWriMo challenge, because I will not be awarded in the form of cash or material possession, but I have learn a lot throughout the November, which is discovering a part of me that I never knew could actually exist, which is SELF DISCIPLINE. I manage to sit down at the same time each night and write an average of 2,000 words per night for my novel. This is actually a miracle for me, because I really do lack discipline. I’m not sure what actually motivates me to do so, because I know that there is no way I’ll be able to do such thing when I was in school or high school. Discipline was never my middle name. My parents would have to actually force me to sit down and study every night when I was younger. ( My father tutored me personally when I was in primary and secondary school)

I guess, when one is not forced to do something, the rebellious streak kinda fade, and such thing is made possible. Let me ask you guys a question- Why do some people read and write more when they are out of school, college or university? You see, you guys blog and read articles and google most of the time-that alone is reading and writing. Why do people crave to study when they are already adult?

I think the answer is quite simple. It’s because they are no longer being forced to do those things anymore. Adults who continued to pursue education even though they are already having a stable career do such thing because they are motivated by the environment-where the working world require them to be more educated and more skillful. They also further study knowing full well they they would no longer be judge by parents or teachers or be punished if they failed to pass their examination that they decided to take. So the kind of stress and pressure that they get when they were younger is definitely not there. It’s easier to achieve when you know that judgment would not be delivered upon you even if you failed badly. One would strive better if they do things willingly and less is expected of them.

If only our education system does not forced our children to be overachievers, I daresay that they would be easier to handled as they will be more open minded and would think outside of the box constantly. They would be more alert to their environment and enjoy learning better. Forcing children to study instead of letting them study at their own accord own accord could actually restrict them from really achieving in a full-rounded way, that, I must say. I can only wish that our education system could coax children into motivating themselves and study voluntarily so that they could achieve better.

With NaNoWriMo, I also learn to not procrastinate. Oh yes, yours truly is a Procrastination Queen. I keep deferring things that I have to do to a later time most of the time, and ended up not doing it all all. I’m very good at doing that. This November, I procrastinate less, thanks to self motivation and pep talks from professional authors all over the world.

But all is not good in NaNo World. At least, not in Malaysia. I learn that most do not really understand what is NaNoWriMo is really all about.

Most just joined in the fun so that they could join TGIO( Thank God It’s Over) Party held on 5th December every year, where they could go wild and bitch around to their heart’s content. NaNoWriMo in Malaysia is pretty much adult oriented, and I am very, very disappointed to discover that. There are lack activities for minor. Even write-ins event are done at classy place like Starbucks and shopping malls where parents would definitely won’t let their young children go without supervision. This year, TGIO party will be held at Centro, KL Central where it’s actually a restaurant/bar/club lounge. Convincing parents to let their kids on loose there alone would be a problem, so thank you very much, I’m not going and not bringing my students there.

Dissapointing to the very core really. When I asked the person in charge about this, I was told off in a rather pompous manner that they know what they are doing and was told to shut up because they are very experienced in doing whatever they are doing. They are not open to suggestion, criticisms or even mere opinion. Some newcomers are told off in a rather conceited way, but, Malaysian, being Malaysian, really do love to bootlick those who have powers and bitchy. Plagiarism is also taken very lightly in NaNoWriMo Malaysia.

I guess politics are everywhere. I’m really disgusted to see such things- with the way certain authors/novelist behave, anyone would automatically labeled all authors in Malaysia as ‘bitchy group of people’ instead the ‘creative and friendly’ type of people.

The Municipal Liaison for Malaysia region somehow succeed in making NaNoWriMo event every year a ‘classy’ and ‘high class’ event, where there would be fund-raising and parties at bars and pubs, but definitely failed to make NaNoWriMo’s ORIGINAL purpose (which is to EDUCATE) to be really known to the public as there are no attempts made to approach the media to advertise such activities. They just can’t get a grip at it that the whole thing is about encouraging people, adults, teenagers and children alike to be involved in writing line and reading more.

Cleffairy: I really do hope NaNoWriMo in Malaysia region could change for the better and stick to the original purpose which is encourage people to read and write, but I guess I am hoping too much out of Malaysians. Another thing that ‘Tak Boleh’ in Malaysia is asking people to stop bitching around and start educating and learning.

Ps: I may have won NaNoWriMo 2008 challenge, but in truth, I have not won my own challenge, which is to complete the whole novel. Hitting 50,000 words is very easy, but finishing a novel is not. Wish me luck.

And special message to Aunt Iris who is so concern for my health. Don’t worry Aunt Iris, give me a few days, and I will be as right as rain. I’m not sure if you received my second email or not, because your jaring mailbox is full. So just a short note to let you know that I’m all right. Will keep in touch with you, so you take care too.
