What is dyslexia?

As most of you probably know, I have a son who is an ADHD child. I’ve been teaching and tutoring him on reading and writing, and it is getting on my nerves that he is rather slow at grasping it. As of late, his pace is worrying me… and his tendency to write from the back of a word makes me think if he’s also a dyslexic. I’m not sure if he’s doing that on purpose to get on my nerves or he really have difficulties spelling and writing in the correct order, cuz so far, his teacher has never complained about this tendency. I’ve asked the teacher, and she said she did not notice anything abnormal while he was writing.

It is worrying. I suspect that my son have dyslexia as well. Do you know what is dyslexia ? Dyslexia is a learning disorder that is language-based. If a person has this disorder then it likely that they have a difficult time with reading. They may also experience other problems with language skills: pronouncing words, spelling, and writing.

I don’t really care if my son have dyslexia. After all, it is not that he’s a retarded, it just means that he have a learning disability and I need a correct way to teach him. I can always send him to dyslexic learning centre and whatnot.

My only concern now is the society’s acceptance and tendency to judge people who are different and have learning disabilities. They always condemn such people, and I find it rather demotivating and demoralizing.

I am worried on how he’d fare in school too, considering that this country does not exactly allow children to learn according to their own pace and put them in the same learning group. Instead, they put children with same age together and force them to compete with each other academically instead of allowing them to learn according to their own pace.

I don’t know about you, but it is rather unfair towards such children with learning disabilities. How can they grow and benefit from the education if they cannot keep up or they are constantly forced to do things the normal ways?

Cleffairy: *sigh* I guess my son won’t be going to mainstream schools. He won’t survive and benefit from that sort of education. I’ll be sending him to school where he can benefit more from the education by learning on his own pace and learn to discover certain things through experience and experiments instead of just memorizing facts.

Pregnancy and Birth

Ever since I’ve been having those recurring nightmares on giving birth to a baby (as I mentioned in my previous blog entry),  I feel rather traumatized, and I can’t help but look for information on babies and pregnancies.

You see, I always believe that the best way to overcome your nightmares is to research and understand the root of your trauma. I’m guessing that my body was somehow traumatized by the thoughts of having babies again and therefore, the brain manifest it into nightmares repeatedly.

And so, I decided to get more information on babies and pregnancies so that my brain could stop being afraid and comprehend that pregnancies and babies is just another from of reproduction, and there’s nothing to be afraid of.

And look at what I found while I was looking for information about babies and pregnancies? A chart on pregnancies and birth in the US. When I looked at the chart, I feel as if my heart was wrenched.

So many babies were born to teenage mothers, and I wonder what happened to those babies and young mothers. Were the babies raised by the teenage mothers themselves? Or were they adopted into a foster family? Not many teenagers are responsible enough or have the capability to raise their newborns, so I’m guessing, most of the babies were given up for adoption.

Poor children. I don’t mean to preach. After all, I made the same mistake but if only all these teenagers are smart enough to practice safe sex, then they won’t end up getting pregnant and stuff. But then again, to be fair, there’s no fault-free form of contraception. Condom breaks and sometimes, Pills failed you too.

The only 100% most effective way to prevent unwanted teenage pregnancies is abstinence, but then again, abstinence and celibacy is never appealing to teenagers with raging hormones.

How do we stop all these, then? I don’t have an answer for that, I’m afraid. I think it would take a rocket scientist to answer that for me.

Cleffairy: If only the teenagers were put through a seriously harsh motherhood and a nasty labour along with recurring nightmares like me before they decided to get intimate with their partners, then perhaps abstinence and celibacy will be appealing to them and the birth rate of babies who were born out of wedlock and to teenage mothers would drop.

IMP Hair Studio

I was having a very late dinner with my family last week when I heard a bunch of energetic youth shouting “Free voucher, free voucher!” in front of a hair studio. It was after midnight, and they really got me curious. And so, after dessert, I head over to the hair studio next door to the restaurant that my family and I were patronizing to check out what it’s all about.

Apparently, IMP (In  My Place) Hair Studio was having some sort of roadshow by the roadside, in front of their hair studio. I was really amused when I finally checked it out. The bunch of youth, whom I assume is IMP’s hairstylists and crew, were very hardworking, friendly and energetic. None of them show any signs of fatigue despite the lateness of the hour.

I was told that they are having a mid-year promotion and they’re also giving away vouchers for you to use when you book a service with them that. All you need to do to get the voucher is to fill up the survey form, and their RM50, RM30 (valid for all of their services) as well as 3 piece of RM5 hairwash voucher will be yours to use at your convenience until Nov 2011. There’s more…all voucher holders are entitled for another 10% discount during redemption.

I did not want to miss out, and so, I filled up the survey form, which merely took around 1 minute of my time, and their voucher was mine to use. *GRINZ*

Anyway, I asked their permission to snap some pictures around so that I can blog about their promotion, and Mr. Moses Lau from IMP has kindly showed me around the place.

It’s a pretty neat hair studio, actually. It’s air-conditioned, very spacious, no-nonsense and very comfortable place for both ladies and gents to have some hair-styling or hair cut done.

Definitely a place that I will consider to have some girlie time or some ‘ME’ time.

IMP is using Arimino for all of their service. Arimino is one of the top hair care brand in Japan that’s specially formulated for Asian hair, so if you hook up with them for any services (hair wash, perming, rebonding, hair dye, etc), you don’t have to worry about your hair being damaged because of the cheap products that they used.  . 😀

So… anybody up for some hairstyling or hair wash? I know I’m due for some hairstyling…my hair is getting unruly and very wild. 😀

Here’s the address of the hair studio, in case you wanna give it a try:

IMP Studio Prima Setapak:

Added Sugar in Growing Up Milk

As a mother with an ADHD (hyperactive) child, I can get really, really paranoid when it comes to my child’s diet, cuz feeding the child with food that contains too much sugar can give him sugar rush, and he’ll be pretty ‘high’ and very active. Active as in, couldn’t stay still, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t concentrate, etc, and it can be a terrible problem when he translate the hyperactivity into climbing onto furniture and refusing to come down. It’s dangerous, and therefore… too much sugar in my boy’s diet is a NO, NO!

Besides, who needs excessive sugar intake in children’s diet that will lead only to loads of health issues? I, for one, do not need child obesity problem along with diabetes, dental cavities as well as high blood pressure that comes with taking excessive sugar intake. I have enough health issues with my son to deal with in the first place, anyway.

If you’ve been following my blog, I’m sure that some of you may have noticed that I’ve recently changed my son’s growing up milk to the newly formulated Anmum Essential- the one with no added sugar in it as an initiative to reduce unnecessary added sugar in his diet.

Well, after more than two weeks of using Anmum Essential with no added sugar, I ran out of them and I had to re-stock. And so, I went to the supermarket and  while I was walking on the milk powder aisle in my regular supermarket, something caught my attention; an awareness poster that says that we could have been feeding our children up to 10-13 tsp of sugar with the regular growing up milk as well as a laptop with sugar calculator displayed on the screen, ready for the consumer to use to verify how much sugar there is in their children’s formula milk.

Curiosity gets the better of me and therefore, I used the laptop and test out the sugar calculator provided and started to make comparison between the previous growing up milk that I’ve been using and the newly formulated Anmum Essential with no added sugar.

I was really shocked on how much added sugar there was in the previous growing up milk. Boy, am I glad that I’ve chosen non added sugar product for my boy now.

Okay, I’m sure most of you are confused right now. You may ask how is it possible for children’s growing up milk to contain so much sugar when there’s practically almost no sugar written on the label?

Well, mummies and daddies out there, we got to play a little bit of Sherlock Holmes when it comes to detecting sugar in our children’s growing up milk, cuz the contents, as you might already notice after all these years, are written in their scientific or chemical terms. All sorts of added sugars in growing up milk were also written on the labels in their scientific terms.

As I mentioned in my previous entry regarding the danger of excessive sugar in our children’s diet, there’s two types of sugar. Naturally present sugar and added sugar. Both natural and added sugar exists in the form of carbohydrate.

Natural sugar can be found in fruits, veggies and many other class of food in the diet pyramids. Added sugar on the other hand are the type of sugar that’s used as additives, preservatives or taste enhancers in various food products, including children’s food.

So, mummies and daddies out there, if you see ‘sucrose’, ‘fructose’ or ‘glucose’ on the labels of the growing up milk packaging that you’ve bought, that means you bought growing up milk that contains added sugar. And, if you see ‘corn syrup solid’ or ‘glucose syrup solid’ on the milk packaging, that means those are added sugar too.

If you see the higher contents of carbohydrate is dictated in the growing up milk label, that means the higher the added sugar level is.

Mummies and daddies, beware and be more alert when you choose growing up milk for your children. I’m sure you’d be as horrified as I am if you’re to count how much added sugar there was in the growing up milk that we’ve been feeding our children.

Wanna know how you can actually check how much added sugar you’ve been feeding your children with your current growing up milk? You can go click HERE

The ‘SEMAKGULA’ website provides a sugar calculator for us to use. The website can be viewed in 3 languages, Bahasa Malaysia, English as well as Mandarin and it’s best viewed with IE6 as well as Firefox.

I’m sure you’ll have no problems using the calculator, it’s pretty simple and the instruction provided is pretty clear, really. Feel free to share the calculator on your Facebook or Twitter too… I’m sure alot of parents out there are concern about excessive sugar intake in their children’s diet too.

And oh… before I forget…if you’re interested in changing your children’s growing up milk to a growing up milk that contains no added sugar after using the calculator, you might want to consider growing up milk like Anmum Essential with no added sugar. It is the only growing up milk in the market so far that has no added sugar in it’s formula.

If you have any qualms about changing the growing up milk for your child to the new Anmum Essential, you can go to Anmum Club Facebook page or call ANMUM CARELINE  at 1800-88-3122. They’ve both been very helpful resource when I was having doubts on changing growing up milk for my child.

Pleasure her with your sexy fingering technique

It’s been a long time since I last post up something sexy, isn’t it? It’s been almost a year. Well… I think it’s high time I do something about it. Today, let us talk about the art of pleasuring women that most men neglect to pay attention to: The art of fingering.

Did you know that using your fingers on a woman’s vagina can reap amazing results? Given that you use the right finger techniques, of course.

But before you get to work, however, do take note on one thing: A woman needs to be revved up and ready to go before you can manipulate her vagina with these finger techniques. You can’t just shove your fingers inside her or rub her clitoris without ensuring arousal first. So, remember to turn her on before you introduce her to your hands. The art of fingering is all about being subtle and sensuous. And the art of being subtle and sensuous is all about foreplay.

There’s a couple of interesting technique that men could try to experiment with:

Screwing (no pun intended)

You’ll need to use your index and middle fingers for this one. Sit between her legs and start off with the palm of your hand facing down. Insert your fingers all the way in, then turn your hand so that your palm is facing up and comes out. Repeat it as often as necessary until she reaches orgasm. When you turn your hand so that your palm faces up, tap her clitoris with your thumb each time.

The G-spot indicator

Sitting in front of her with your palm facing up, insert your finger(s) inside her and make a “come hither” motion. Your objective is to try to tap her belly button from the inside, in effect, hitting her G-spot. Don’t get aggressive right away, however. Start off slowly and, judging by her reaction, keep the same pace or increase speed.

The shocker

If you and your woman enjoy experimenting and you’ve explored the back end before, this one may be quite enjoyable for her. While you’re using your index and middle fingers in her vagina, stick your pinkie finger in her anus. While you go in and out, both holes will be stimulated simultaneously.

The slider

This finger technique needs good lubrication. With your index and middle fingers, start off by placing the tips of your fingers on either side of her clitoris, then glide down and make your way inside her vagina. Get back to where you started and keep repeating this maneuver.

Manipulating the vagina to orgasm is not as difficult as you may think. Once you manage to arouse her mind, her body will follow. And of course, you should encourage her to be vocal about what she likes.

The rubber

The clitoris is the place to stimulate for most women. When she’s adequately self-lubricated, or you’ve put some water-based lube on your fingers, use the tips of your index and middle fingers to rub her clitoris softly in a circular motion. Her reaction will let you know that you’re on to something. Continue your pace and slowly begin to increase speed. At no point, however, should you go so fast that you end up losing focus.

The helping hand

If you can manage to use both hands at different tempos, she’ll keep getting wetter. While using the tips of your fingers on one hand to rub her clitoris in a circular motion, use the index and middle fingers of the other hand to glide in and out of her vagina. The multiple sensations will serve to increase her chances of reaching orgasm. It’s not a race, however; you don’t have to go as fast as humanly possible. Just keep a steady rhythm. If she wants it faster, she’ll let you know.

Cleffairy: Now… there’s more reason for you to keep your nails short…

No Added Sugar Growing Up Milk

If vehicles needs fuel to move, then the human bodies needs sugar to function properly.  But excessive sugar intake will do more harm to the body than good.

My son cannot take too much sugar in his daily diet. It’s very, very bad for him. I’m sure most of you over here knows why, if you’ve been following the rantings in my blog long enough.

For those who don’t know why it’s bad for the boy… well, I say sugar is not good for my boy not only because it is generally fattening or it causes diabetes, or even high blood pressure or heart attack… no… far from that.

I have to restrict my son from taking too much sugar  because he is a special child. He’s an ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) child with mild Asperger symptoms. For those who does not know about all these medical terms, well, let’s just say that it’s commonly translated as ‘very hyperactive, lack of attention as well as lack of communication and social skills’. Children with such disorders can only be helped via active drug usage, therapy or intervention.

I did not want to use drugs on my boy as I don’t believe in depending on drugs to ‘cure’ the disorder, so I chose therapy and intervention instead. Behavioral therapy and diet intervention is needed in his case.

Apart from diabetes, dental cavities and whatnot, excessive sugar intake is also known to trigger hyperactivity in ADHD children, and therefore, I’m very, very concern about the sugar intake in his diet. I can’t afford my son developing sweet tooth and preference towards sweet food. So whether I like it or not, I have to control his sugar intakes in order to avoid him from being too hyperactive and out of control.

There’s two types of sugar. Natural sugar and added sugar. Both natural and added sugar exists in the form of carbohydrate.

Natural sugar can be found in fruits, veggies and many other class of food in the diet pyramids. Added sugar however are the type of sugar that’s used as additives, preservatives or taste enhancers in various food products, including children’s food.

If you see ‘sucrose’, fructose’ or ‘glucose’ on the labels of the food packaging that you bought, that means you bought food that contains added sugar. And if you see the higher contents of carbohydrate is dictated in any food label, that means the higher the added sugar level is.

Various children’s products such as cereals and growing up milk contains a lot of added sugar, and it’s been quite a headache for me when it comes to choosing the suitable growing up milk for the boy to drink.

Your children may not be ADHD children, but I’m sure most parents are also concern about added sugar in their children’s cereals or milk as excessive sugar intake can cause child obesity, dental cavities, diabetes, etc.

Well now, there’s a solution to that dilemma. At least, when it comes to choosing growing up milk for your children, that is.

Anmum Essential is now available with no added sugar. The newly improved Anmum Essential has absolutely no added sugar. Yes, the new Anmum Essential is a non added sugar product. So far, the new Anmum Essential is the only growing up formula in the market that has no added sugar in it.

Apart from being added sugar-free, also has 100% more DHA than the old Anmum Essential. It’s also fortified with various vitamins, minerals as well as ganglioside. The concentrated formulation also allows you to make more milk with less powder.

Check this out… the feed difference between the old formula and the new formula:

I cannot believe it at first, but the new formula actually lasts longer than the predecessor.

Now, I know children are rather picky when it comes to food and milk. I’m sure most of you are worried about the taste and how your child might respond to the milk, but I assure you, the milk still taste great. I think as parents, we all want the best for our children.

One of the best thing that we can give them is health. To give them health, we need to instill healthy lifestyle and healthy diet in them when they’re still young. We can start by giving them growing up milk that contains no added sugar. No added sugar in your children’s diet means less chances of them going obese, having dental problems or even developing diabetes at a young age.

My son used to take growing up milk that contains added sugar, but when I spotted the New Anmum Essential with no added sugar, I decided to give it a go. There’s no harm trying. I mean, the price is still affordable despite of the price difference. Besides, I know that feeding  my son with milk that contains added sugar will do him more harm than good because of the health issues.

The new formula is around RM10 more expensive than the old formula, but it’s worth it, cuz the new formula is much healthier, and have more servings in each pack.

My son did not exactly have any transition problem when I slowly introduced him to the new Anmum Essential with no added sugar. He didn’t reject the milk but adapted to the taste quite fast as it still taste great, but in case you decided to introduce Anmum Essential with no added sugar as a replacement for your child’s growing up milk and your child happen to have difficulties during the transition period, you can hook up with ANMUM CARELINE  at 1800-88-3122.

Alternatively, if you’re a Facebook user and feels uncomfortable about talking through the phone, you can also discuss your qualms in trying the new Anmum Essential with other parents and Anmum staff in their Anmum Club Facebook page. They have been really helpful in clearing my doubts when I decided to try the new Anmum Essential.

Be sure to spot the difference between the old and the new packaging when you buy Anmum Essential. The new one has ‘no added sugar’/ ‘tanpa gula tambahan’ written on the package.

I just don’t understand some people…

I just don’t understand some of my friends my age. I find them very hard to relate to, especially when their belief about food intake and diet is completely different from mine.

You see… I don’t quite give a damn of what I eat and when I eat. I eat when I feel like it, and I eat when I feel hungry. Most of my ex-classmates in highschool are jealous of me. Why? Because I barely put on an extra gram since I left school despite of the way I enjoy my food… and my junkfood. I may be older. I may be married and have a child of my own, but I could still fit into my school uniform-something that not many still can.

Anyway, I was chatting with a friend… a close friend, actually, and I was telling her that I cannot live without nasi lemak, char koay teow, satay, roti canai and many more fattening local food.

She was aghast when I told her that, and she admitted to me that it has been more than a year since she had her plate of nasi lemak, char koay teow, roti canai and whatnot. She cannot believe it that I have been having them regularly without even feeling guilty. And she was prattling on and on about the calories, how unhealthy and fattening they are and bla bla bla! *ROLL EYES* (I don’t understand why someone can live in Malaysia and not enjoy the good food around us)

My friend told me that I should feel guilty for even eating those stuff. Duh… why would I feel guilty, anyway? I live in Malaysia. Those are somewhat staple food to me. If I don’t eat those regularly…what do you expect me to eat? You can’t expect me to to live on salad without dressing for lunch and dinner and disgusting bowl of oat for breakfast and wash it down with some dreadful looking protein shake, can you? You might as well shoot me in the head if you want to ask me to do that! It is something that I will not do.

Perhaps… I have grown very old and I couldn’t understand the ‘younger generation’ anymore. All they want to do is have an hourglass figure. But they forgot that just to control their diet without exercising will not do them any good. Skipping meals, especially breakfast just to loose weight is also not right, even if you take healthy stuff like oat and salad later on for lunch and dinner.

I am a firm believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you cannot skip it. Go ahead and skip lunch, but you must take breakfast. And I also believe that it is okay to be skinny or fat, as long as you are healthy. No point looking good when you are not healthy, right? That’s just vain!

People always ask me… how can I stay skinny even though I don’t exactly watch what I eat. They wonder what my secret is. I tell you… none. I have no secret…. unless you call eating fried chicken at 3am in the morning and eating loads of stuff before I sleep is a secret to keep myself petite.

Cleffairy: Oh… don’t worry about me… I may not eat those supplements and health food to keep my ‘good’ plywood figure, but I do swim regularly… and perform my ‘cardiac’ exercise often to keep myself healthy inside. LMAO! Why not ask me instead… what is ‘cardiac exercise’? The cardiac exercise that I have been practicing for the past 8 years can burn loads of calories if you do it right. LOL.

ps: By all means… if you’re unhappy with the way you look… diet all you want, go and have the fats surgically removed. For what it’s worth, I don’t believe on going under the knife to make myself look good. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Weight loss

I’m a very vain person. I like to look pretty and beautiful like many other women my age and so, I dress up when I’m in the mood for vanity. But I could never understand the concept of diet and weight loss, because in truth, I’m pretty much underweight for my age, my gender and my height. I am just 34 kg. That’s just not normal.

I tend to not dwell on my lack of weight and flesh, because there’s so much advantage to it. I get to eat anything, anytime I want when the rest of the female population would be worrying about how much damage the cholesterol would do on their body and how much time they would need to spend on the threadmill as a punishment for indulging later on.

Being underweight, is really an advantage. I don’t have to go on a strict diet, and I could a eat a whole box of large pepperoni pizza in the middle of the night along with some macaroni and cheese as well as a few slice of sinfully delicious garlic bread and wash them down with some  iced  coke in the middle of the night and go to sleep  after that and still don’t have to worry about putting on weight.

Yes, I am blessed indeed. Not many could do that without having their conscience nag them to death.

Weight loss and dieting is not for me, but don’t let that stop you from following your own diet, because each and every one of us is unique in our very own way. One man’s poison is another man’s meat.

I don’t quite encourage you going around dieting without the expert’s advice, but if you’re interested in diet weight loss program, though, you can check out the link. It might help you and advice you on how to shed some of your jiggly bits that you’ve been worrying about.

ps: If you’re a guy… I think there’s no harm in visiting the gym and get the sexy V-line…they’re just to die for!

Health food: Whey Protein

I have a bestie, or rather, a partner in crime who is now working as a personal trainer in a local gym. We grew up together but we’re like heaven and Earth. We’re totally different beings, but I think we complement and get along with each other just fine. After all we have been friends since we were 11 years old.

My bestie, she’s a very health conscious person. Which means, she goes to gym to work out even before she started to venture into the fitness and body building industry. While me, on the other hand, is somewhat nonchalant when it comes to health and fitness. She’s the kind who would count her calorie intakes as she eat while I don’t really care about calories. As long as the food taste good, anything goes, even if it’s unhealthy.

She could go on and on and on, talking about health supplements and why whey protein is essential in body building and fitness industry. Truthfully, I am not a bit familiar about health supplements as well as whey proteins and whatnot. I am practically illiterate when it comes to these sort of things.

And so, I looked up supplements UK where there are loads of infos on health food supplements provided.

According to supplements UK, whey protein is is a high quality protein powder made from cow’s milk. Milk has two proteins: Casein (approximately 80%) and Whey Protein (approximately 20%).

Whey protein is more soluble than casein and also has a higher quality rating. It is often referred to as the gold standard of protein as it is the most nutritious protein available.

Whey protein is a high quality, complete protein, with all the essential amino acids and is also the richest known source of naturally occurring branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine). And so, whey protein are important for active individuals, individuals who exercise a lot, bodybuilders and professional athletes.

So is whey protein for me? No. Not quite. It’s not quite for me, cuz I I don’t exercise much. I only swim a few times a month, and that’s merely for relaxing, not exercising. But whey proteins is certainly for sizzling hot and virile men like this. 😀

And this…

And definitely this…

Good grief, working out and taking whey protein does that to one’s body? Hmmm… I better stop and run to the nearest gym for some eye candies instead before my imaginations runs wilder. 😀 Anyone with me?

Cleffairy:  I kinda know why my bestie got so hooked in the gym. Tsk tsk tsk! Shame on you, Pau! 😛
