Celebrating Ruby’s Wedding

So, okay, I’ve been on hiatus for awhile. Some people even start wondering of I’m actually still alive and what I’ve been up to. So here I am folks, still alive. Doing fairly well.

So, what I’ve been up to these days? There’s plenty of things that’s going on in my life right now. Some is good while some others is not exactly worth mentioning, so let me update you on some happy things that I did few weeks back.

Let’s see… I attended my friend, Ruby’s wedding reception last Sunday.

image

It was held in Dewan Serbaguna Masjid Bukit Aman. I arrived fairly early with my son that morning, so there was not much guests yet. I can’t help but admire the dais. It’s so simple yet beautiful.
image
And check out the ‘Bunga telur’ wedding favour. Isn’t it lovely? These are handmade by the bride’s family.

image

Here comes the bride and groom, escorted by cute flower girls.

image
And what’s a Malay wedding without traditional music? ‘Kompang’ were played to cheer up the day too.

Congrats to the newly wedded. I may not me a fan of attending weddings, but frankly speaking, their happiness rubs on me and I’m glad that I decided to drag myself to attend their wedding reception last Sunday 😀 Will update more on the wonderful experience. I’ve learned so much and there’s so much to tell about it.

Up Close And Personal With Sharks

It is a scary thought to be in the presence of sharks, what more to be dealing with these animals. But that isn’t the case for the Expedition Great White team who seeks to learn more about these beautiful creatures. Don’t miss the premiere of Shark Men 3 on 6 November 2012 at 9.00pm on Nat Geo WILD (Astro Ch 550) and thereafter every Tuesday at the same time.

The Expedition Great White team sets off on three expeditions to this spectacular region with some of the area’s most experienced researchers. “Dr. Hammerhead” Peter Klimley and some of his post docs form the core of the investigative team. With mother ship OCEAN and her experienced crew, they set forth to answer some big questions about big predators. Insight and adventure ahead!

EXPEDITIONS: Three expedition destinations within the Eastern Tropical Pacific have been chosen: The Revillagigedos, Cocos Island, and The Galapagos. They mark three key positions along the shark superhighways of these seas. How they each figure into the great migrations and are connected is fundamental to this research.

Episodes include:

Tagging Tigers

It is the same crew but everything else has changed; fresh science team, new shark species, varying landing methods, and in unfamiliar territory, the Revillagigedo Islands. Chris’ team and Dr. Hammerhead (Pete Klimley) will work together to try to help the scientific community learn about tiger sharks, Galapagos sharks, and many other shark species. The biggest hurdle this team will have to overcome is finding a balance between the differing opinions on how to land the sharks.

Hammerhead Islands

The Shark Men anchor at Socorro, one of the four islands that make up the Revillagigedo Archipelago. The hunt for hammerheads continues and with the help of the Shark Men Dr. Pete Klimley hopes to uncover the mysteries of shark migratory behaviour in this region. The question was to use the sling the scientists would prefer or use the trusted lift that the crew has used time and time again. But now there is a bigger question: will either of them work? The MV Ocean has been temperamental ever since they left port, but will she breakdown when they need her the most?

Tiger Escape

The Shark Men are challenged as never before. They hook three sharks including two giant tigers. But they get away. Even for these pros, the sheer power of the tiger sharks catches them off guard. Determined, they redesign their approach and start using the kind of tackle they use to land giant great whites. It pays off big time as a subadult tiger shark they name Sara Beara, is successfully tagged and sent on her way.

Tiger Bait

After a long stretch of nothing but frustration, the team is finally seeing consistent success mostly due to the realization that the technique used to catch great whites works perfectly on tiger sharks. Even though they’re all exhausted, the scientists and crew are now determined to catch and tag five sharks from five different species because they know that the tagging operations are part of an urgent mission to help protect and understand these magnificent fish.

Coming Unglued

At the Revillagigedo Islands off Mexicos western coast, the tally for tagged sharks is rising but so are tensions among the men. As the long and grueling expedition winds down, the Shark Men struggle to put personal conflicts aside to stay focused on their ambitious and urgent mission to save as many shark species as they can.

A Whale of A Tiger

The men are tired, tense and determined to succeed but the window is fast closing. One more tiger shark and 3 more silvertips are desperately sought before they need to pull anchor and leave the region. Expedition leader Chris Fischer keeps pushing the men to focus and keep working until the very last second.

Trouble In Paradise

Under the cloak of darkness, shark finning poachers boldly enter Cocos Islands protective waters and this is the first time the Shark Men have on-board security in case theres a confrontation. Under tense conditions, the teams main species for tagging are hammerhead sharks. Because of their bigger fins, they are a highly sought after species for slaughter.

Mission Critical

The Shark Men divide and conquer to get the job done, but that approach causes some safety issues. While divers scout for hammerheads, Todd is off by himself and hooks a giant tiger shark. The divers support boats rush over to assist Todd leaving the lead scientist alone in dangerous waters The tense episode is the start of a growing divide between the anglers and scientists on priorities and protocol. But in the end, the mission takes precedent and they wind up having their best day ever in terms of tagged sharks. Costa Ricas Cocos Island is a designated protected area and the rangers are keeping a skeptical eye on the men. But their mission is urgent as thousands upon thousands of sharks are illegally finned in these waters.

Think +

I spoke to my father last night and he was sharing with me his problems. Apparently, this year is not a really good year for our family. Alot of things happens to us as individuals and there are plenty of challenges that we have to face that sometimes it’s overwhelming to deal with.

My father spoke to me on how he is considering an early retirement as he could no longer feel the joy of working, but fought against it as he is worried for so many things, financially speaking. His concern is something I can understand, of course. Who wouldn’t worry about that when there is so many financial commitments? I always worry about that too.

But there is an important lesson that I learned from my father last night. He told me something that he used to tell me when I was a little girl but finally  made sense to me after all these years. He said…when we are desperate to chase for worldly things, it will consume you til there is nothing left. The trick to go about life and deal with challenges in life is to let worldly things chase you instead. He reminded me that whenever prayers goes up, blessings will come down, and so, no matter what we do, just do our best, and let God do the rest.

My father is right. As human, we can only do our best and leave the rest to God. For what it’s worth, if something belongs to us, it will be ours. If it is not, we shall never have it, no matter how hard we try.

Towards the end of our conversation, he told me that throughout our lives, there will always be things that makes us feel that life is not quite worth living anymore, but it is important to remember to THINK +, as only when we think positive and have good thoughts about things and about people around us, we will be affected positively and only then, things will be better.

Cleffairy: My father’s email always ends with ‘Think +’. I find that little thing rather comforting and encouraging, despite of the content of the emails. Small things like this is inspirational to me, and it makes me smile.

Safe and secure banking with Maybank2u

To say that I feel insecure these few days is an understatement, especially when it comes to going out on my own to the bank to withdraw money. Call me a paranoid, but as of late, whenever I go out at night on my own, I don’t feels safe. I keep thinking of bad things… bad things like me getting robbed and murdered.

image

Let’s just admit it. Malaysia is not exactly a safe place to live in. Plenty of women were kidnapped, raped and murdered. Sure, I’ve learned self-defense and whatnot, but that does not insure me against anything. I mean, whenever things happened, I tend to panic, and that’s not even a joke.

image

Sure, the bank is always secured with loads of CCTV and armed security guards, but I still can’t shake  the nagging feelings that bad things are going to happen to me and my son whenever I go to the bank to withdraw money. I don’t feel safe anymore with all those bad news in the media. It’s not easy to be a woman, huh? You’re always an easy target for criminals. 🙁

Body art fetish

Do you have any fetish? Well, I’m sure some of you do but dare not admit it to the public. People have all sorts of fetish. Mine is red undies…Superman’s red undies, that is… 😛 Apart from that, I’m also crazy about body art. When I was in my teenage years, I dreamed of getting myself a tattoo, but since I can’t possible get a tattoo on my body without going through all the needle pain, I went crazy for non intrusive, non permanent body art like Henna or Mahendi instead.I can’t help myself. They’re so exotic and pretty…

I visited a Beauty EXPO last week, and I spotted a Henna stall. They were doing giveaways and demonstrating the art of drawing Henna, and I offered myself for it. 😛 LOL. Nice… isn’t it? I certainly think the Henna drawing on the back of my hand is nice…and I can’t wait to dig into the goodie bag and draw em on my body. 😀

Cleffairy: I am a terrible artist. I hope I won’t screw it up.

Do you personalize your Facebook?

Facebook has implemented Timeline profile for quite some time now. Some love it, some loathe it. Those who are quite conservative, will find the changes are rather annoying as in some ways, the Timeline have quite a messy outlook, but to me, I’m neutral about it. I may take some time to adapt to the changes, but it the end of the day I get along fine with the changes, just like many other things in my life. Things are constantly changing, so you can’t just remain the same and refuse to accept the change. Everyone needs to move forward and adapt to the changes to survive.

Being a person who loves clean and organized layout, I used to think that Facebook Timeline is complicated. But I survived that, and I learned to love the function. Apart from being able to track all my Facebook status updates and pictures easily, I like the fact that I can change my Facebook cover and personalize it. I usually download the Facebook Timeline cover from the net or Foob blog. How about you? Do you personalize your Timeline? If you do, where do you usually get your Facebook Timeline cover to personalize your Facebook account? Please share with me. 😀

The New Wisteria Lane

Are you a fan of the series ‘Desperate Housewives’? I’m a fan. I’ve been following the series quite religiously since a few years back. I’ve always wondered how it’s like to actually live in Wisteria Lane, the fictional neighborhood in the infamous series. Well, now I know how it feels like to ‘live’ in Wisteria Lane, because I’m actually living in one. Well, almost…I think.

In case you’re not familiar with the series, Wisteria Lane is famous for being the home of desperate housewives with plenty of dirty laundries (and dead bodies) in the closets as well as full of nosy, spy-like neighbours who devotes their daily lives in sniffing the dirty laundries.

I am currently living in a place like that too. Plenty of housewives who are busybodies, and have fetish for dirty underwear. I don’t suppose I have extremely dirty panties or bras lying around the house or any dead bodies under my bed, but apparently, my neighbour, who is also my new landlady seems to think that way.

She must have thought that I’m one of those desperate housewives with loads of time to spare, and more often than not, she’ll come knocking my door whenever she feels like it just so that she could poke her nose around sniffing dirty laundries and gossip about others.

Being a working from home mother, I certainly DO NOT appreciate the lack of privacy. My time is really precious. I have a lot of things to do in a day. I got to take care of my family, handle my freelancing projects, study, write my novel, etc. I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR IDLE GOSSIPS. I’m not one of those useless people who loves to talk about other people, and I certainly don’t appreciate people coming to knock my door when I’m busy working, or resting just so that they can gossip nonsense with me.

Call me a bad, unfriendly neighbour…but I prefer to mind my own business. I may like Superman’s red undies, but I certainly do not have the fetish for other people’s dirty underwear, what more spend my time in front of my door talking about other people’s dirty and unwashed undies.

Right at the moment, I’ve been ignoring those daily knockings on the door after ‘marketing’ hours and during tea -time, hoping that soon enough, that old lady will get bored of it. Not quite an effective solution…I know… but what else can I do besides quietly sitting in my study, pretending that there is no rude knockings on the door?

Any suggestion on how to remedy this situation, guys? I’m really at loss here.

Cleffairy: Scheming to move out to a landed property where I can actually get myself a fierce pet dog; preferably a Rotwailler who will actually bark and attack intruders and nosy neighbours.

Unsupervised children

As of writing this, I was ‘overnight-ing’ in the McD outlet again to finish up my work because there’s no stable Internet connection in my new place as yet. My son was with me, and so, I opt to stay in the playroom area for his benefit. McD’s playroom area is quite comfy I assure you, and the boy could even catch a shuteye over here if he wants. So yeah, I’ll probably be here for the Internet connection until I manage to get a proper one at my not so new, and not so convenient place.

All was well until I saw a bunch of swinging monkeys in the form of bratty little children in the McD playroom…swinging around dangerously, and playing in the playroom without parent’s supervision!

I wasn’t very pleased cuz my boy was in there and the kids were pulling some dangerous stunts… these kids are merely kindergartens kids and toddlers, and in my humble opinion, the children should not be left alone to play anywhere on their own without adults supervision, no matter how safe they think the place is. There is no such thing as a ‘safe’ place these days. Where is their common sense? These super hyper children could have injured themselves and other kids in there, and hell, they could have been kidnapped or something!

What the hell is wrong with the parents to be allowing kids playing there unsupervised? Do they seriously think that it is okay to leave their kids unattended like that? I was the only adult in the vicinity of the playroom, for God’s sake. Are they thinking that I could keep an eye on their kids for awhile while they get their stuff from the counter or something? 🙁

Cleffairy: I thought my boy was awful enough and is more than qualified to join the swinging monkeys in the zoo, but those bunch of children are worst!

Sgrouples: An Online Privacy Revolution

Social media platform like Facebook has been a part of my daily life and I’ve been using it not only for personal interaction with family and friends, but also to keep in touch with my business connection as well. In other words, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and whatnot is an important part of my life and I cannot imagine my life without them. I would probably feel helpless and socially disconnected if I don’t use them at least once a day.

Social network is important to me, and I am sure that it is the same with anyone who is IT literate these days.

A couple of days ago, I heard some news that Facebook is acquiring facial recognition technology soon; which will require you to use webcam and whatnot just so that you can login into your Facebook account. This will bring a new, literal meaning to Facebook where you use your face for everything, and as a person who guarded her privacy closely, I do not appreciate the fact that my face will be saved up somewhere in the server for various purpose. In case of the breach of privacy, I could easily be exposed to identity theft and not to mention illegal profiling.

Seriously speaking, I think I would be more comfortable using social media platform like sgrouples that not only guarantee my privacy, but offers truly private group and social networks as well.

With sgrouples, you definitely do not have to worry about the breach of privacy and unnecessary exposure towards identity theft and whatnot.

The controlled cyber environment is completely private and safe. It’s great for social sharing as whatever you content you share and posted there belongs completely to you.

I highly recommend social media users, especially those with families and kids to use this particular social media platform to stay connected and keep in touch with one another. The environment is not cluttered, and sharing as well communicating is also simplified for a better user experience. There is definitely no spying, no tracking and not stalking in sgrouples.

Signing up is easy, and the layout is user-friendly and pretty easy to navigate, even for beginners. You may not only access it from your PC, but you may download its apps from Google Play and App Store too if you’re a smartphone user.

Sign up for sgrouples and join the rest in the online privacy revolution today. You won’t regret it, I assure you.
